After much research and deliberation on my own, my arrows were delivered by UPS today. Imagine my astonishment to learn tonight that we are shooting the same arrow, same vane and color, same spine and insert. Your report confirmed all of my research and decisions over the past month in prep for hunting season!

Haha what a coincidence. It’s a great setup, I’m sure you’ll love it! It’s served me well for several years now and I’ve had absolutely no issues.

Inside Out Precision does a great video about heavy arrows. They pretty much recommend that 450-500 gr range for the typical archer pulling typical weight. I think I'm going to try some of these Axis arrows. Good review.

Great video! I have 2 dozen easton axis 5mm 300s, the brass break off inserts, and AAE Max Stealth vanes. I'm at 28.75" on my arrow with 70/30 LB/DL. I film all my hunts so I like to use nockturnal nock (25gr), and the AAE vanes are 9.2gr each. So since im adding all that weight to the back of the arrow, in the front I'm going with 100gr QAD Exodus, 75gr insert, and the 10gr iron will collar. I'm a texas whitetail, axis, and hog hunter but an elk hunt is on my wish list for the next 5 yrs or less. My set up is at 557 grains total arrow weight including the broadhead. 12.03 FOC (I only know cause of online calculators). I enjoyed your video and congrats on 1,000 subs. I liked and sub'd you. My channel has only been active 2 years and I'm 1/3 of the way there. I'd appreciate a sub if you enjoy self filmed hunts. Great video and keep em coming galin.

I have the injexions and have the hit inserts and then those firenock outserts so roughly 150 grains up front and even if you don't need all that foc they just fly so nice 👊

very good video sir. I just picked up today 6 Axis 5mm from French Creek Outfitters. I definitely like how a heavy arrow quiets down a bow. And let me tell you my Hyperforce needs all the help it can get. I will still go by Lancaster Archery for a few other arrows to try. I want to try the new Victory Xtorsion arrows.

You need to explain you cannot use fixed blade broad heads using this insert system it is impossible to spin and tune your Brodhead's using this insert system. I switched from carbon express and spent several hundred dollars purchasing these arrows and found out the hard way because I was not experienced and using this type of an insert system.
@galinswigart Жыл бұрын
I currently use fixed blade broadheads with this setup and have had zero issues tuning. If they aren’t flying correctly, you need to nock tune your arrows or tune your bow. Indexing the blades of a broad-head with your vanes on the arrow is not necessary for good flight.
@usmchunter6219 Жыл бұрын
@@galinswigart I'm using thunderheads the problem is when I glue the inside insert into the arrow and let it dry it's impossible for me to screw in the thunderhead and spin them, so they spin true with the arrow. I am not so much concerned with lining up my fletching with the broad head blades My bow is perfectly tuned bullet holes no tears at all I am trying to achieve matching arrow flight from field tip to Brodhead. I've always screwed the sun to head into the insert and then used overnight curing glue so as I can spend the broad heads so they spin true with the arrow I don't see how in the world I could do that with this set up. If you know something I don't know please tell me
@galinswigart Жыл бұрын
@@usmchunter6219 if you’re using the two part epoxy that is recommended for the HIT insert system, it takes time to set. You can spin your heads the same way you would with any other slow setting glue or hot melt product. I’ve shot QAD exodus and iron will heads and both have flown very well on these arrows. I’m not sure why you’re having that issue but a lot of people use fixed heads on Easton axis arrows and I haven’t heard of problems.

It’s all your decision but I would shorten those arrows up. You are not taking full advantage of your stiffer spine. I shoot a 30.5” draw and cut my arrows to 28.75 so I can get them as stiff as possible. I shoot a 100 gr footer and collar with a 100 gr head for a finished arrow of 529 gr. I’m also shooting an 80 lb limb. Your videos are good quality man, keep it up!
@galinswigart5 жыл бұрын
Jake Bair thanks for the suggestion man! That’s definitely something I could try, I actually left them intentionally longer than normal because the 300 spine is actually a little stiffer than I need. Leaving them slightly long gives me more broadhead clearance and weakens the spine just a bit.

Hey man, Unfortunately I don't pay too much attention to actually measure my FOC. I just add what seems like a good ammount of weight up front and roll with it. I am planning to beef up my setup for next year as well, probably using 100 grain inserts instead of 50 grains and switching to a 150 grain broadhead.

I'm in a dilemma. I'm currently shooting easton flatlines. Finished arrow weight is around 408+/- grains. This year I think I'm wanting a little heavier arrow. I haven't tried the fmj or the axis. I know the fmj will be quite a bitter heavier gpi so I was leaning towards trying the axis since it seems to be somewhere in between where I'm currently at and where the fmj would put me. I shoot 70/30 and Im not super worried about speed but i dont want to be crazy slow. Any advice or recommendations?
@Snowball-ey5xq5 жыл бұрын
Mr. Plainview the axis is just a cheaper fmj without the aluminum. If you want the weight of the the fmj put brass inserts and maybe 4 fletch. The fmj gets expensive while the axis is cheap and fairly popular as well. I find that the axis shoots better out of my Mathews vertex at 75lbs,30” and around 320. My complete axis is 408. Shoots great but this is my off season arrow.

My arrows only come in 250 or 350, the chart says for me to go with 250s, but I'm only shooting 27" at 63#, but my insert and tip are right at 145 gr. Is this too stiff?
@jonesoutdoors99014 жыл бұрын
If your are shooting a carbon express arrow... the spine chart is not the same as Easton. Carbon express 250 is the same as Easton 400....

2 questions. How did you test that your arrows were quieter bc you cant here them from the bow. And second why do you keep references you 400-450 grain arrowsnas heavy??? 90% of other channels I watch only refer to "heavy" as 550 and higher and they do nothing but talk bad about the wimpy brass inserts
@galinswigart4 жыл бұрын
AverageJoe Angling most whitetail hunters where I am shoot an arrow that is under 400 grains, so 450 is a medium weight arrow. Heavy compared to a 350 Grain arrow I switched from. Out west, a 500 grain arrow would be closer to what some people would call heavy. And as for sound, I have friends who have shot my bow while I listen. Certainly a noticeable difference in the sound of the bow and hiss of the arrow! Hope that helps.

Right you don't need 600 gn to kill a white tail, but why have different arrow setups for different big game animals? Why not have one setup to kill up to and including elk. Let's messing about. You'll be more proficient, more successful all around. You do have a range finder, right?

480 is not very heavy id say go even heavier, im a 27.5 inch draw shooting 74 lbs and 574 grains at 25% foc and get amazing flight and unreal penetration at 270 fps
@galinswigart6 жыл бұрын
Jesse Bruggenthies I’m glad that setup is working for you! If I hunted elk more frequently or needed to shoot further in the wind I would for sure add more front weight. I’m pretty happy with how this setup is flying and penetrating, but I would definitely consider going heavier in the future. Thanks for watching.

Galin Swigart anything under 1150 fps the deer can hear before it gets there so in my opinion 500 grains is perfect for whitetail and 550+ for elk I don’t even hunt elk often I just build this as a all around perfect arrow for target, hunting, and durability just food for though

I'm using 407 grain. Easton axis 5mm. 27" draw @273 fps. In Utah and I blow through elk. Not sure why everyone thinks they need to be so heavy. And yes I understand energy and physics well.

I believe that you need a 250 spine.....according to gold tip arrow selector
@galinswigart6 жыл бұрын
Angelo Gountas gold tips spine chart is slightly different than Easton’s, I’m between a 350 and 300 for Easton, I’d rather be slightly over than under slimed so I went stiffer.
@jharydadams70905 жыл бұрын
OP said these were the Easton axis 5mm... Easton has a different spine chart then say Carbon Express, Gold Tip, Black Eagle etc. All a tad different. I would say to check your arrows just in case you're using different brands to confirm you are not under spined.

With all due respect, do you have super hearing ? I’m not goofing on you sir , I’m not comparing blazers to AAE ‘s , I like blazers because they are a proven vein and are inexpensive! People act like when you shoot a blazer vein it’s like listening to a freight train! Maybe I’m deaf ? If there is a difference is it really worth switching over to a different vein? Maybe? I like my blazers
@galinswigart6 жыл бұрын
Joe K from the shooters perspective, it’s hard to hear any difference. But stand behind a building half way between the target and the shooter (safely of course) and let someone shoot arrows past you. I was amazed by how loud blazers are! Max stealths are noticeably quieter from the animals perspective. I used to think the same thing, but once I tried listening from down range I realized what everyone meant. Most times, I think game reacts to the hiss of the arrow more than the noise of the shot.
@thestalkarcheryarrows5 жыл бұрын
Jersey Joe I did a shot war and blazer on cam to see what one is louder and aae is louder . I mean arrows shoot so fast that we are talking a 2” jump when a deer hears it coming or sees the shooter etc” hope you know what I mean” just shoot what your comfortable with. Who cares
