Eastory

3 жыл бұрын

For three and a half months in 1941 Estonia became a battleground between Germany and the Soviet Union. Being on the left flank of the German drive on Leningrad the country became split between the German forces and the Red Army in mid July 1941. After that both sides attempted to capitalize on the limited maneuvering room to encircle and destroy each others forces as Germany attempted to capture the Soviet naval bases in Estonia while Red Army did everything to retain them.
Data from the The National Archives of Estonia was used to create the map.

Having spent the last half year in Estonia I reckon the gent behind Eastory is indeed Estonian. In my humble opinion, it is not only his Estonian accented English ( Latvian and Lithuanian people speak English with a completely different accent) , but his detail and obvious love of telling Estonia's story that clinches it for me. Go Estonia-I know one thing for sure, the people there will not go down without a fight next time. The EDF and the Kaitselit will be waiting for them in the forests, and not just with small arms!

I´m honestly a little disappointed, that you didn´t expand on the Tallinn evacuation. Around 15 000 people died at sea, making it one of the worst naval disasters of all time.

Actually the wost naval disaster of all time is the battle of midway
@Charcosombrio_22
@Charcosombrio_22 2 жыл бұрын
@@fluffy2688 Very different situations. Midway was a battle, the majority of casualties in the Tallinn evacuation were civilians and the death toll and sunken ships was far larger than Midway.
