I finally bit the bullet and ordered a harmonica. I ordered a black Eastrock in the key of C for right around $13. As soon as it gets here I’m planning on using some online lessons and KZbin lessons to learn how to play. I’m not expecting to play at a professional level but it would be nice when my buddies are around the fire picking guitars I could join them with the harmonica!

@@averyimel726 If you bend the cover plates, that shouldn't affect anything at all. If you bend the reed plate, that could cause it to go out of tune... but it it works... it works. Keep on blowin that harp.

Thank you for the review! Harmonica is an instrument I just never could wrap my head around. So cool to see it played well :D It might be worth another try for $11, haha

The key to harmonica is key... no literally. LOL. If you have a G harp and you play a chord progression in G... the harp will always sound good with it. From there... it's just breath control (which you definitely have from your ocarina adventures). It's similar to a native flute in theory but the pattern is harder to visualize. For me, I just went for it and tried to figure it out. Of course... that's always my approach. Ha ha.

I’ve bought 2. 1 was awsome and the second was clearly a cheaper version of the same model. I was way let down on the second one. The notes went flat when you tried to bend notes

That's too bad. I've heard of that happening with a lot of these mass produced instruments though. The first batch is really great, then they get popular and the quality goes down the drain. Frustrating.

Hey there. I just de-enveloped the mother of your harmonica, the Eastrock 24 hole harmonica key of C and the higher keys are really tight. i.e. I blow and nothing comes out... or I blow hard and it sounds like bag pipes... (please be professional here) lol ... I'm not sure how to fix this. Can you post a video?

It shouldn't be hard to get a tone out of any harmonica. It sounds like you may have got a defective one. If you bought it from Amazon, they should allow you to return it. I had same problems but i was fucking around a lot at beginning. I just got it today and the plastic is cracked need the key holes. Plus it is not really “air”tight so not cool but for price u can buy it for your kids use it twice and never see it again because kids. Def go for better quality next time.

Can you bend with this harmonica?

You should be able to bend notes with this (or any) harmonica. However, these more inexpensive models tend to be less controllable when you bend. Some of the nicer harps tend to bend a bit smoother. I hope that helps.

@@musicalmiscellany thank you for the reply. The problem I'm having with this particular piece is that im not bending low enough. The tone I'm getting on the 4 hole isn't nearly low enough to be a D flat.

@@imawzrd2489 Ah. You may have a defective harp or it could just be a limitation of the design. If you really want to try some bends, I'd recommend the Hohner Big River. It responds really well to bends and they're mid-range price.

The box is really tight. Any suggestion on how to pop it open? I can’t open it!

Push in on the button (with the lines on it) and lift the top of the box upward. It should open. If it doesn't, return it because you probably got a defective case.
