That's exactly how I landed on this video. Interestingly, my pulmonary doctor said not to bother and just to do the pursed lip breathing. But I've seen quite a bit of evidence to the contrary and it's nice to see you confirm that harmonica can be helpful as well. I hope your patients will film their Christmas show (assuming you can swing it) and upload it here on youtube. I imagine it would be quite inspirational for others with breathing issues.

I leart harp hitch-hiking around Australia in the 90's. I used to cover huge distances between towns jamming out on my harmonica. Have fun it's a great instrument and you can rock oùt with guitar guys around a fire and take a jam session to a whole new level.

This happened to me for singing. I sang for 25 years and never sounded good. However I didn't give up and one day learn how ro sing Raspberry Beret on my own. My dad used to play the harmonica when I was a youngster. He'd sit on the couch playing whatever it was he was playing, sometimes for hours. I looked for that harmonica after he died a few years ago, and couldn't find it. I play the guitar, and have often thought about doing the whole playing a harmonica while playing the guitar thing. I also drive a truck. That has me thinking that I could learn how to play harmonica while I'm driving the highway every day, since I can do it with one hand, being straight up while looking forward. Thanks for the beginner tips. I may just go ahead and order a harmonica now.

I bought my very first harmonica yesterday. After researching and thinking I went with the Hohner blues master. I know it's nothing special but for tryout it was affordable. I looked at the order carefully to buy a C Major one. When it arrived I was excited. For about 2 minutes until I opened it, and find it out I got a G Major harmonica in a C Major box. I sent it back so I can order another C Major one now. Rough start.

Nice tutorial! I’ve been playing the diatonic harmonica for 53 years. My first harmonica was in the key of B-flat. I always play the harmonica with two hands. It’s the only way I can play it with feeling, phrasing, vibrato, note-bending and all that good stuff. BTW: Among my many instruments, the harmonica, pan flute and slide whistle are the only instruments I play strictly by ear. And the first tune I learned to play on the harmonica was the “Wedding March” with chords. 🎶

i took music theory in school and know how to play various other instruments, so i picked up the harmonica as something i can carry with me and play to feel like a wandering cowboy or something. i love this video because its casual and informative at the same time. introduces a lot of concepts i learned very early on into music theory that i had almost forgotten wasnt common knowledge, all introduced in the same relaxed way. playing a fun beat while explaining notes is a great audio-based way to explain to someone how notes work. i like this video a lot! i hope to keep up with the harmonica. its a delightful instrument with a unique sound

Excellent video! I have an M. Hohner "Blues Harp" that's about 50 years old. I think my parents gave it to me as a gift one year. I've never even tried to play it. I pulled it out today and took a look at this video. By the end, I was sounding pretty badass! I'm a woodwind player and never could even begin to imagine how this instrument is played. It's not as impossible as I thought!

Honestly just knowing how to hold and use it properly helps so much, I can pretty much play by ear now since I’m already familiar with posture and other things like that from my experience in chorus.

I bought the East Top King Dream. I struggle with how small most harmonicas are I really would prefer something a bit bigger so the King Dream was perfect for me just wish I had more options than just a C but most of what I learned is on a C harmonica so it works

This is really helpful for beginners. I've been wanting to play the harmonica for years as a kid and as a teen I'm 30 years old now. I'm thinking of giving it a go When I see a harmonica playing, I instantly think of one of my favourite singers and songwriters, Bob Dylan.
