I've been painting cars for 25 years and it's nice to see someone doing it properly for once 👍

You just saved my life, this is a great way to properly mask a car, thank you.

I like the "spider wed" reinforcement. Excellent idea to keep the paper against the tape from blowing off.

The tradesman I'm learning under would not allow any folds in the masking tape only straight clean lines are allowed. It not only looks better but when you mask off a car any flaps, creases, or folds in papers or plastics can bring unwanted trash into your paint. Just a thought.

I think you might be my dad the way you went from teaching us about square body chevys with LMC truck and now teaching us how to tape with Eastwood

So that's why my car has been taking to so long to get painted!

4:08 - do you mean modern newspapers contain chemicals that will mess up your paint if left on it or modern paint will leech through the newspaper and mess up the paint underneath? I've just spent hours masking off a piece with newspaper but not started painting yet - will it be OK as a sanding guard at least?

what technique is used for the jambs when using metallic colors? Is it still the two step where you paint the jambs first and then back tape them before painting the body and blending
@eastwoodco Жыл бұрын
Yes if you're painting the car all assembled we'd "cut in" the jambs, let that cure, back tape, close the door and paint the exterior. Process should be the same for single stage or base/clear.

@@eastwoodco with solid colors I Like to paint the body with the doors and trunk off so its like OEM everything is one piece. Since the doors can be painted on a stand and the colors match. With metallic I find this different with the door being painted separately it tends to not match up even if you fog the last paint coat vs the door being bolted on and painting all at once.

Hey Kevin, Could you please post a video on how to repair paint that has peeled away with the masking tape? Or comment on what to do in that situation. Thanks a bunch, I respect your work and vids. ...

Yikes, touch-ups like that are an art that you won't master watching a vid. And it varies with the circumstance. Best to learn all the various tricks to keep it from happening (like when you need to mask a non-removable molding around your windshield because it is level with the body).

How to unmask wihout ruin the paint,,any video about that sir?
@brendanroberts2126 жыл бұрын
marvin ligart studio. Wait 4 it to dry then remove the tape simple. Its not rocket science.
@crossfiregaming95416 жыл бұрын
Marvin ligart studio you want to remove you're tape and masking about 45mins to an hour after you sprayed you're coat of clear or color if it's a single stage enamel that way it's dry enough to remove but still kind of tacky so it's more forgiving around spots like headlights, taillights, emblems(if not removed) side view mirror trim and any other trim etc. My first paint job I waited til the next day to remove masking tape and it ended up pulling up a good nickel size of the paint near a headlight and also on the side view mirror but luckily wasn't as bad near mirror.
@FisherCatProductions5 жыл бұрын
@@brendanroberts212 Give the guy a break BR. Jrod is correct. There is a "just right" drying time when it is dust free but soft. Helps ensure you don't paint off the vehicle which can happen if it's too dry and hard.
