Last night I spent a few hours building a 3d anim for my intro log. I spent 2 hours trying to recreate my SVG by hand. After finishing the attempt, I pondered "Does Grant have a video on this??" Lo and behold you have exactly the tutorial I needed. So now I am importing SVGs and editing them in Blender! SWEEEEEEEET!!!!! Thanks, Grant, Much appreciated!

Re: 5:45 it's extruding both directions from the original plane location (Up and down in this case) so .1m up and .1m down, therefore its 0.2m total (:
@grabbitt17 сағат бұрын
ah yes that makes more sense
@Mr_Dancy_Pants7 ай бұрын
When you extruded .1 m vertically and it went to .2, it looks like it's extruding up AND down, giving you double the extrusion on that axis. So it was a .1 extrusion, but in both directions. I noticed the grid was going through the middle of the shape, rather than sitting on the bottom of it. Not sure if there's a setting that can be toggled for that, but that looked like what happened.

And maybe we can use CTRL+A and then M - By Distance to deal with the vertices that are too close

how do I then turn the extruded logo object into a mesh that I can edit?

Just FYI, I just learned this can be done with a displacement and smooth modifiers using image as plane import addon. Blender on. Akerace Drill

I use this workflow a lot after I design a logo for a client, I make a 3d version with material properties. Same thing I do for some Sign mockups when I need to sell a closeup shot or shots from different angles, to the client. Some of them think the Signs are already made, even before they make down payments.

@simeongprince29 күн бұрын
@Kostromphoto Right click on object, the select "Convert" then choose "Mesh". After that, in edit mode, Select the entire mesh, then open the search menu and type in "Merge by Distance". That will delete all the unwanted vertices and weld the mesh edges together.

Hey Grant! Will there ever be a topic about UE5 and integrating models from Blender, transferring animations, materials, etc.? You yourself praised Unreal, so... :D I have your courses on Udemy, but only the Unity thread is covered there.

I imported an SVG logo from illustrator, but one one of the letters in the logo is filled in. It looks like the verticies are there, but I have no idea how to fix it. How do I prepare the file so this doesn't happen, or alternatively, how to I fix it once it's already in blender?
@grabbittАй бұрын
you'll probably need to separate that section of verts away from the rest of the shape

Can you convert in B3D a SVG file that the logo is not cut out of the background? I have one that the logo is the transparent part and the background is the black part, hope that makes sense.
