Linda here…I love everything you do! These quick, inexpensive meals are awesome! We live on a sailboat in the Caribbean and beef can be expensive and difficult to find. The animals they raise are very lean, too. I love the idea of vegetation dishes that can be seasoned with meats. Our “kitchen” and refrigerator is so small that most of my time is spent provisioning and prepping for meals. I have to have everything prepped before I can start cooking. I often prep carbs like potatoes, rice, beans the day before and refrigerate for the benefit of resistant starches that will raise blood sugar less. Also, the heat can be unbearable in the summer and I often don’t cook…just salads and non-cooking dishes…perhaps you could look into that? Thank you so much for all you and your crew do. You’re all a lovely group and I get so much joy from watching and sharing your videos.

One of the things I love about Turkish cuisine is that yogurt is served so often with many of the dishes. I used to eat it only at breakfast, but now I enjoy it throughout the day and savory as well. ❤

This is such a delicious comfort food, haven't met anyone in Türkiye who doesn't love it! And with pickles yum yum yum!

I totally love how you don’t waste anything, Refika. I sometimes feel a little crazy because I always am running outside dumping my rinse water on my plants when I’m cooking and secretly burying my vegetable scraps through my yard. I live in an HOA (which I know would freak some people out, and they might try to stop me from gardening altogether). I just hope more people around the world catch on before it’s too late for everyone.

What is a HOA?
@standdownrobots_ihaveoldglory Жыл бұрын
I'm sorry you have an HOA with such rules 😮 I thought they were only for really rich people, but I've heard in some places, nearly all the available houses are HOA. It's hard when you are doing good, frugal, ethical things like planting scraps or drying on the line. My neighborhood gets a little shabby at times, but we have yards with art projects, big gardens, and all kinds of unique displays reusing "junk," which I love.

Thank you Refika, Bahar and Team. Great series, and yes, we need all the suggestions you can give us for affordable meals, life is increasingly difficult for so many of us all over the world. I also like the idea of a meal that can go for a few days, or any tips for conservation. Thanks Refika for all you do, with your great heart!

I make this often, my husband is Turkish. I love it rich like yours. I put potato in too and no meat. My mother in law makes it very bland I don't like it much. Big dolop of yoghurt on top and crusty bread. Yum

I love this series. Thank you for pointing out food prices are higher globally. Sometimes in the states we forget how good we have it. ❤
@jonathanfinan722 Жыл бұрын
You don't. Food in the US is very expensive, certainly compared to Europe, almost everything. And the there's the poor quality. Take a few minutes to search youtube for US food price comparisons with the UK for instance.
@kathleenkocan628 Жыл бұрын
@@jonathanfinan722 I live in one of the most expensive markets in the United States. However, there are always deals to be found. We also have such variety and abundance. Other parts of the world have been struggling for decades. The increases in the United States are in line with the increases seen globally since Covid. Especially when you subtract the fact that large box supermarkets are price gouging their customers. Seek out small ethnic grocers and you will find the true cost of food in the United States. You will find prices per pound on produce, meat and fish that you won’t believe. Or perhaps I misunderstand you. Are you saying the US doesn’t have it good. I’ve traveled extensively and trust me. It’s good here. You don’t have to feed your family junk food. That’s a personal choice.

Thank you for this! I adapted it for my food sensitivities and it still turned out amazing! It made 5 servings so I have one each day for work. I'm eating it right now for lunch! 1) Used all olive oil, different brands to change it up. No dairy. 2) Instead of sausages I broke up left over meat from bacon beef burgers. 3) Instead of wheat vermicelli I broke up dry rice (with bran) spaghetti noodles. I've never fried pasta before and I can eat that as a snack! It's delicious! 4) Used parsley, cayenne, mustard, and tumeric for flavor.
