What would you recommend for a batting to go between the two fabrics?

Hi Sylvia. Rag quilts usually do not have any batting between the layers of fabric. If you want more insulation, use several more layers of flannel. Stay safe. Thanks for watching, and happy sewing.

I have been cross stitching for many years, but I am new to sewing. I was thinking about trying to make a rag pillow cover with a cross stitch in the center. Have you ever tried it? Do you think the cross stitch would survive the washing and drying process?
@TheSewingRoomChannel7 күн бұрын
Hi Eileen. If you have cross stitch in the blanket, I recommend you hand wash it. Here is some of my cross stitch tutorials on how to turn it into a pillow: Cross stitch/Needle work pillow #1: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eXeVhIuue8qsors Cross stitch/Needle work pillow #2: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eXeVhIuue8qsors Hope this was helpful. Lovely quilt. Thank you for such clear instructions. I have a die cutter and die for rag squares that would eliminate all the cutting but haven't made a quilt yet because I don't have a tumble drier. If I wash and then line dry a couple of times would that fluff it up enough?
@TheSewingRoomChannel7 жыл бұрын
Hi Helen. Probably not as good as sending it through a tumble dryer. You will have a lot of lint sticking to the quilt. The dryer helps to remove it. Do you know someone who has a tumble dryer. May be they will let you use it. Happy sewing.

or you could go to a laudromat. If you use a friends, put it in a pillowcase to protect their dryer.

Hi Tracy. Back sides together💗 Happy sewing😍
@beccalee81745 жыл бұрын
I’ve made about 15 rags quilts of all sizes and shapes. The best technique and easiest on your washer is to dry 1st, wash and dry. This 3-step method is way easier on your washing machine. (Use old, clean tennis shoes or tennis balls in the dryer.) PS I had a friend who ruined her washing machine because of rag quilts. There were too many threads on the loose, ha.
@TheSewingRoomChannel5 жыл бұрын
Hi Becca. Thanks for the tip, and thanks for watching. Happy sewing.
@valeriehofmann2615 Жыл бұрын
What makes this method easier on the washing machine? I dont want to screw up my machine by washing it
@cowbird5129 күн бұрын
Protect your washer AND DRYER . Put the finished quilt in a king size pillow case. Baste it shut or pin it if you like. Then wash once or twice. Remove from washer. Open the pillowcase. OUTSIDE if you’re smart. Shake out all the loose threads from quilt and pillowcase. Replace the quilt in pillowcase and dry. Remove from pillowcase outside again and shake well. I always recommend my family or customers use a pillowcase the first time or two that they wash-it to protect their washer and dryer.
