Another layer of flannel works in the middle of your fabric square too. Then all your squares can be the same size, and you just cut thru all 3 layers . I like to use a contrasting solid flannel.

Great video. Maybe when you are telling how to layer block you could correct the " put wrong side down" to first, bottom, square. For new sewers they may not realize it should be right side down, then batt, then right side up. I love your videos, all of them. Always starts my day with a smile, thank you.

I am so glad I checked out your tutuorial! Although I have been an avid sewer, at last I am attempting a machine sewn quilt! I did not know that the "ragged edge came from clipping. I thought I needed to sew a long gathered strip on the seam. Imagine how "involved" that would have been!!!! Thanks so much for the instruction. I am looking forward to the quick and easy method.

@@winterstitches81 I did use flannel both in the middle and on the front of the blocks. I would suggest using larger squares... a 8 or 10 inch, just to practice. Mine used around 300 squares that started at 5 inches. It looks really nice, but cutting all those edges was s lot of work.

Love your video. Fun and colorful quilt behind you. The other samples are awesome. Personally for me after having made several rag quilts. I prefer to snip as I see the rows. Then when the quilt is all put together the only snipping I need to do is the outer border. Easier on my arthritic hands. The joy of this kind of quilt you can do it either way. Love the sheep and teddy bear. one with the four patch.

I didn't hear you say it, but I would suggest you remind people to clean out their dryer filter frequently after drying this quilt; especially after the first time (or take it to the laundromat)...maybe after every one of those 30-minute drying increments...or, depending on the size of the quilt, even more frequently...

@TheFabricPatch
@TheFabricPatch 3 жыл бұрын
No it is down. Your first step is to make a little mini quilt. You stack wrong sides together with a piece of batting in the middle and quilt a little X on them. And then sew them all together
@nancyb483
@nancyb483 3 жыл бұрын
Ooooooooooh, ok, you mean "wrong side down", as in the wrong side of the actual quilt, but for us new quilters, it sounds like you mean "wrong side of the fabric down"!

What exactly do you mean by woven fabrics? Cotton? Linen? Sweat clothes type fabric? A basic question but I’m a beginner :-)
@TheFabricPatch
@TheFabricPatch 3 жыл бұрын
That’s a really good question. Woven fabric is a cotton fabric that is woven rather than printed so it has no wrong side. We have a video that shares all of the different types of fabrics for you. I’ll link it.
@barbarahartman8948

Woven fabrics unravel easily if the raw edge isn’t sewn- like toweling or linen. Knits and fleece don’t fray like flannel and linen.

Anything that frays easily such as toweling, linens. There’s a woven section on the website, too. Basically, it’s a looser weave than traditional quilting cotton.
