Easy Bathroom Shelf Install for Beginner DIY

This video is a beginner's guide to install shelves over a toilet. This is a great project for those with a DIY spirit but not a lot of experience. The particular shelves I use in this video were purchased on Amazon (link below), but there are general principles for hanging shelves that will apply for other shelving options and locations. Keep in mind these shelves are not designed to hold a lot of weight, so when installing shelves with the intention of holding more weight, different brackets and anchors will be needed.

Do you need to worry about plumbing lines in the walls? My toilet is in a toilet room, so i worry about pipes..any help?

I am doing three, the first two were good but the third one is a pain in the butt, the stud wood is too hard!

Thank you! I’m soooo new with this! So if no stud, use a wall anchor correct? when I drill my hole in the wall, make sure the drill I use is smaller then the screw correct? And I’m assuming when I find a screw… I just use common sense on the size of the screw I actually need, right?! Sorry I have so many questions! Thank you!!

The drill bit should be just a tad smaller than the actual screw to make sure you dont make the pilot hole too big. A lot of products you can purchase on amazon, like the one I use in the video, will come with the screws and drywall anchors. You can do it! Let us know how it goes!

The previous owner put up embossed wallpaper in the bathroom…even inside the shower stall. 🙄 I’m In the process of removing the paper, but they put it behind the mirror as well. It’s one of the big ones with no frame, small metal ‘holders’. I can’t figure out how to remove it without breaking the mirror. Any suggestions?

I'm reading a year later but maybe this will help somebody else: paint over the wallpaper! You seal edges first, give it at least a day, and then paint. There's great videos on how to do this, and it saves you the hassle of removing wallpaper!

Haha, that is the exhaust fan switch. This 1973 house has some interesting wiring all over the place
