Carlos Gutierrez I agree, but to get it to carpet (especially in such a low-light tank) would not be easy. Would definitely require CO2.

He wants the tank to be a low tech tank. So if you want to wait 3-4 years for the hairgrass to cover some ground, be my guest.

I like it. Excellent idea to use the cork stuff used for reptiles. Never thought of that before. I think it would look better with less rocks on the bottom. It looks kinda messy and busy right now. But looks great! Guppies are my favorite, so yay for the guppies. 😊

With the java fern blocking most of the light to the substrate, maybe fill in some spaces around the cork bark with some cryptocorynes? Loving this tank, I've thought about cork bark in the past but wasnt sure how that would turn out glad to see you giving it a shot!

A really unique idea, I don't know if I've ever seen cork rounds used in a scape before. I think calling this an "easy tank for beginners' is really inaccurate, though... the need for excessive silicon, drilling, expensive hardscape and an expensive tank make this almost advanced. The only beginner friendly thing about it is the plant and fish selection.
@TobyCreates
@TobyCreates 4 жыл бұрын
Well the tank is only like $40 (expensive compared to a standard 5 gallon but good price for rimless) and beginners can easily skip out on some of the more complicated/ expensive parts and get similar results, please remember that this is just to give a person the spark of “I could do that!” And then create their own spin on things

I have to disagree, everything he did is just barely above a school craft project in terms of complexity, this is all very easy stuff.

I do like almost all your tank, and everything you do..and i follow you every week to see your next video ! BUT...in my opinion, and it's only my opinion, i dont like this one ;) Not my type of ''hardscape'' and plant choices. This being said, keep on your good work ! Can't wait until your next VLOG ! Also , can't wait to know what you'll come up with for your next ''ancient garden'' tank layout !

I see a lot of people talking about carpeting plants...not really possible in such a low tech tank. There are a few exceptions to the rule tho, both Marsilea Crenata and Hirsuta are low tech carpeting. They are slow growers, but they can't go leggy to look for more light due to the structure of their roots and the overall plant structure. Crenata is the smaller of the two, but grows slower, never really took off for me. But Marsilea Hirsuta is a fantastic plant, covers a nice portion in my 30 gallon tall on inert gravel with no co2 and low light.

MD will be proud😍 This look is amazing! What an easy and beautiful Idea . A project I am going to try. How do you think this would work in a slightly larger tank like a 15 or 20gallon that would also house a bristlenose or Otto's. Could this cork work with those type of fish(pleco safe) or would you still need to put maybe some pieces of real Driftwood in? I abosolutley think this is brilliant!! Well done Mike. I think you and MD need to get together and do a project video together 😍I really enjoyed the video. It is an awesome!! " Java jungle corkscape!!!" Have a great weekend and thank you for sharing😬👍🌿🐟🌿💚

Idk if the cork bark will hold up long enough in the water. It deteriorates pretty fast in water. They are meant for terrariums. Looks pretty neat though. We'll see what happens.

Great idea😀 but take does dragon Stone out. And maybe tick carpet of monte carlo around the loogs and maybe swith out the Java fern with bolbitis. Think the leaves are to big. And the dragon rock in the foreground looks man made if you know what i mean. Maybe glue som moss on cork wall at the back? Weeping moss
@rmedoc24a
@rmedoc24a 4 жыл бұрын
I think to make it more "forest" like, you need to carpet the bottom in grasses/mosses and maybe consider making it blackwater. I think that would only make this tank that much better. Also, when I use cork bark, which I have done a few times and planning on a big build shortly, I buy cheap tiles from the big box stores for like $0.60 each. Glue it to that and place on bottom of tank. You are correct though, I sank it for 2 weeks and you aren't getting it to water log...ever
