Aqua Huna is fantastic! I found them accidently through ebay, and then your website. I have ordered from them a few times, and their customer service is excellent. The only downside I ever had was a delay in shipping due to COVID-19, but that is totally understandable. The hillstream loaches I ordered from them began breeding within the first month.

I have found that your fry food in the bottle is perfect for mid-water schooling fish. When they come in from the wholesaler at our store I can usually get them eating right away. Some of it stays floating on the top for the fish that eat there, and some of it slowly sinks as the mid-water fish dart back and forth gobbling it up.

I have pygmy cories, chili rasboras, CPDs, kubotai rasboras, and clown killis in the same tank! My nano tank (not tank size, size of the fish!) my recommendation for feeding these guys is pulverize (i use a mortar and pestle) several types of high quality flakes and mix with bug bites and some powder fry food. I put a good sized pinch in there and they all go nuts! Everyone eats and is happy. I also throw some repashy in for my cories and shrimp.

@@samthomson3394 otos are primarily bio film eaters, and do best in groups of 6 or more. When folx have problems with otos, it's generally because they didn't wait until the tank was seasoned enough. Personally, I don't like to keep them in anything smaller than a 20 gallon, with sufficient wood and plants to support sufficient bio film to keep them healthy.

I'd be interested in specifically coldwater nano fish. I have an 8 gallon tank on my windowsill indoors. I've put water and plants from canals and ponds in my vicinity into it. It's fascinating how much life is in there - snails, gammarus, copepods, daphnia, even bavkswimmers and caddisfly larvae. It also has various worms including planarians. It has no filter or heater but does have duckweed, pondweed, and several broadleaved riparian plants and grasses that have built up on a mound in the corner of soil and wood and dead plant material. It all looks great and has cleared up but I'm interested in perhaps introducing some coldwater nano fish and shrimp in a few more months when it's more established. Besides adding water I want it to look after itself. I did this before with a smaller and much less diverse set up that hosted minnows for 4 years without feeding. I feel like that was a bit cruel however, so I'd rather not add fish if they won't be happy.

Celestial pearl danio are sooo shy...omg. I had them for a year and I even had a succes with breeding them although it took some effort cause they eat their babies as soon as they notice them so you have to take out the parents to let the babies grow. Also believe it or not but they are mental. I've added a dozen shrimp to a tank with them and they killed them all through the night. And once again...really shy. So shy that I had to throw in food and get away from the aquarium so they could come out and it. I had a real love/hate relationship with them. Basically all u said is true regarding the food. They loved frozen cyclops and all the small frozen foods.

Also the hillstream loaches can be a little (or a lot) territorial. I bought a group and all but one died and the one just dive bombs the other fish when they get near the right lower side of the 37 gallon tank theyre in lol. It cant hurt the other fish and its cute to watch but surprisingly territorial in my tank.

Just from my personal experience with CPD's- they are actually really easy to breed for an egg-layer, even on accident. I actually got a small batch of babies without doing anything to promote spawning or their survival after hatching. I also hesitate to recommend them to anyone, because they seem strangely prone to disease that resists most common antibacterial and antifungal treatments.

They also will school with my chili raspboras. My hillstream loach chases them around. I love them though. They’re my favorite fish to look at, and it’s fun trying to get the chance to really look at them because they’re quick and fidgety and hard to focus on for the short period of time they’re still.

Some really good fish recommendations here. I have done a lot of this stuff and was a half professional breeder for a while. I would avoid the loach though, not because they are bad aquarium fish, but they get a little big for a small tank. Also the hill stream loach is not a good choice for a small aquarium, they are likely hard to feed and keep happy. Otocinclus is a better choice and might be one of the best algae eaters out there. Do not forget to feed them though, they will quickly finish off any algae or "slime" in a tank. For having some fun and perhaps get some kiddos, get a good mix - the Danio mentioned above is a great combination with Pseudoepiplatys. They occupy different spaces in the aquarium (but if you want to keep both, you might opt for a slightly bigger tank). The danios lay about 15-20 eggs and the killies about the same. The fry is extremely small from both of these species, so put some extra infusoria in there once in a while. For feeding, I really like you are talking about live food. The better one feeds the fish, the better they will do. If they can feed as they do in nature, there you have it. You will have happy fish, you will have fry and you will have very fun!

I have a soft spot when I see the last fish in the fish tank at the store, so I have 5 celestial pearl danios, 2 ember tetras, and 1 chili Rasbora, and 2 Pygmy Corydoras.. all of my fish were loners besides the cpd’s and they are all a happy family now, I’m looking for more chili’s and Pygmys currently but it’s really cool to see all of them school together and play together, misfit squad 💜🥺 and the ember tetras make the cpds confident to eat of the top! 4/10 from the list

We’ll be setting up the first community aquarium we’ve had in about 20 years. The possibilities are sure different than they seemed to be back when I was a kid in the 70s!

The hobby has exploded, hasn't it?!? Breeding is so much easier now, and the possibilities on plants makes fry survival easier too. Welcome back!

Makes sense for small fry but unnecessary for most small fish. Unless you are feeding a school of hundreds and can't be bothered using your fingers. Flake is easy enough to grind up with your fingers and the larger pieces the fish will naturally latch onto and tear anyway, just like they would in nature with larger food particles. I don't even struggle grinding up some of my 'far' more expensive flake with my fingers, I use for breeding which is a lot damper due to oils. Takes a bit more rubbing, but it breaks up small enough for. I have however used an electric grinder a few times to break down pellets, but this was when I was experimenting with foods and making my own concoctions. Do you have thousands of fish and want to spare your fingers. ;)

I love the CPD and I'm gushing it was your first pick. I love nanos and have embers tetras, harley ras, CPD, and Golden WCMM(not exactly nano but yeah) I had chili's and they're super red colour and of course I have Loaches and Corys it's funny how this list was the top picks for my personal taste, I didn't notice all my favs are nanos until seeing an expert catagorize them lol. Regarding Blue Neons vs Green Neons I always tell people that the Blue Neon has a blue stripe stopping before the tail and the Green Neon has a blue stripe all the way to the tailfin

This helped me realize why my brother fish tank's fish wouldn't eat for me! As far as I could tell they are tetras, but not once did I see them eat the crushed flakes or sinking wafers(for the corys in the tank) now I know it's because they are mid tank feeders, Thanks!
@snoods6259
@snoods6259 3 жыл бұрын
My CPD's have no problem eating sunken pellets from the bottom, so it is possible to feed outside of midwater range. :) I believe they also munch on a floating flake, but I'm not entirely sure on that one.
