just a suggestion-paint canvas come in small sizes. you could use them as a book cover. You use paint on this one, if you are any good at painting. You could paint a picture on the cover and seal it and use a cloth spin. don't know if it would work, but watching you paint gave me the idea.

I love all facets of your work. The projects themselves are always beautiful. Your explanations are simple and concise, yet always cover the salient points. I enjoy your chatter and personality. You’re just fantastic and you have given the confidence after watching most of your videos to make and even restore a couple of books for friends. I have an original, signed Longfellow book that is illustrated. It is huge - about 14” tall and the cover is in VERY BAD condition although the inside is surprisingly excellent. I want to tackle it so badly, but am terrified. I will keep watching you ‘till I get the courage.

Oh my...a signed copy? What a special book! I highly encourage you to have it looked at before diving in (if you haven't already) to make sure it isn't worth a kazillion dollars or something 😳
@JanieAlcove9
@JanieAlcove9 11 ай бұрын
@@NiktheBooksmith LOL. Yes, I have had it looked at and it is valuable, but not quite a kazillion!!!! The value is very diminished because of the covers and spine. I think they were water damaged at some point. The front cover is furled up like a leaf. I was considering misting it on the backside to see if that moisture might release the fibers enough for me to put weights on it to flatten it out. I’d love to send you pictures if you’d like to see it. It’s pretty special.

You talked about giving the covers a spritz of clear spray paint to seal in the colors. Did you add anything to the fabric to protect it? Did you make the cloth into bookbinding cloth? I love the way the book turned out! You know how to coordinate colors well.

According to the google dictionary, to ravel or to unravel means exactly the same thing. I would use "unravel" because is sounds more like something is falling apart.

I found you just a little bit ago and have been playing around a bit with making sketchbooks, and I had a question, do you have to glue the spine after sewing it, or is doing just a sewn spine oK? Your work is always inspiring, I want to make all the books!
@NiktheBooksmith
@NiktheBooksmith 11 ай бұрын
Good morning! I wouldn't say you have to, but I usually do because it adds to the stability of the binding. If you'll be gluing the back of the text block to the inside of the book cover, then it wouldn't be necessary to glue up the text block spine ahead of time. Hope that helps!

I had to look it up. Ravel, according to Merriam-Webster is to become unwoven, untwisted, or unwound: fray. So just another words I’ve been using incorrectly for 60 years. Ho many book would I have to foil to make a foiling gizmo worth it? LOL 😂 TFS ❤❤❤

Fab, easy to follow, video and gorgeous book. Love the printed pattern too, very pretty. Just wondering, what printer and ink do you use? I have a Canon Pixma and the ink smears and smudges if it gets even a whiff of PVA or water based anything, even if I use thick paper and a light layer of glue (onto the board not the paper). Matte varnish makes the ink run too. Thank you for the very entertaining videos! 😊😂
