Waterbath canning without tons of special equipment! This video was sponsored by Squarespace. To get 10% off a site of your own, visit www.squarespace.com/anneofall...
In this homesteading video, I'll show you how to make low sugar raspberry peach jam and how to can it using the water bath canning method. Making jam from scratch is very easy, and is a great way to preserve summer fruits for winter consumption. Here on the homestead we are in gardening zone 8b and have everbearing raspberry canes and grow the Frost variety Peaches. Food preservation and canning are very important aspects of homesteading, but can seem very daunting. In this video, I'll show you a very safe and easy way to do it.

My raspberry season is the middle of July and I can't wait til it's over. Usually pick a half gallon of berries daily for up to three weeks, or until I get a heavy rain that turns them to mush on the canes. I'd go crazy picking berries from April til November.

You can substitute sugar for honey which adds flavor and minerals
@AnneofAllTrades
@AnneofAllTrades 4 жыл бұрын
We have done that in the past, but it turns out we prefer sugar for jams and baking and honey just as it is. I've found that the honey we harvest from our bees has too strong a flavor and it tends to overwhelm the other flavors we are trying to bring out.

She will definitely be around, and that's something I'm very happy to report. She had some serious health concerns last year that were the catalyst for building the tiny house, but thankfully, she has made a miraculous recovery, and doesn't need the tiny house after all :)

It just ensures that the seal gets nice and tight. You *could* risk it and just lid the jars and hope the heat from the jam was enough to seal it, but I wouldn't recommend it.
