You are a natural teacher. I love watching your tutorials. I think Fleur mentioned you in one of her most recent tutorials and I looked you up. Very happy I did. I’m now binge watching your tutorials (I’m a newby to wire wrapping and DIY jewellery) 🤩😵💫 Alas, you’ve introduced me to Jesse James Beads UK (many thanks!) and I can see my bank balance dwindling in the very near future. Love the mixed collections.

Thanks for that Gem, I’ve been wire working for quite a number of years and hated prong setting as the last time I chipped a round Latimer Cab that I’ll have to bezel set to cover up the chip, love your tutorials always easy to follow and you explain everything very clearly.xxxx
@JemHawkes4 жыл бұрын
Thank you ever so much hon, the exact same reason I developed this technique is to avoid those tears, you can modify the shape of the prong to be more rounded if your cab has more rounded sides, but the basic technique is to avoid any pressure over the front of the gem xxx

@JemHawkes4 жыл бұрын
It works really well on odd shapes, sometimes a prong isn't quite where you want it to be, but because it makes up quite quickly, you can always make another one and just put a bit of extra space between prongs if you need it xxx

This is so well done, I love it. I'm having a hard time finding Cabs with the ??indent, rib, dip?? whatever it's call that goes around the cab. @paulamichalowski77294 жыл бұрын
Another wonderful and educational lesson Jem. I have had trouble with prong settings in the past, so this is a good alternative. Do you have any trouble with the prongs prying up sometimes?
@JemHawkes4 жыл бұрын
With this style the prongs rarely pull away from the stone, but you might find that instead of a 90° bend in the prong, your cab may sit better with a curved prong. It doesn't take too much wire or time, so it is worth playing around to find what works best for you xxx thank you for watching xxx

Will this work for a square cabochon?
@JemHawkes3 жыл бұрын
I've used it on fancy cabs before, octagon, hexagon, triangular and square, you just need to measure where the prongs will sit, either put them on all corners or none of the corners.
@michealleeyoung44823 жыл бұрын
Wow,why didn't I think of this...how about bending some of the prongs, backwards?,to hold the stone ....
