Easy Crackle Finish Using Elmer's Glue

I think the secret of a successful crackle finish is the spraying of the top coat because it does not disturb the glue base coat as a brush would. One could even spray the glue. The problem is not having a compressor and spray and gun.

maybe a spray bottle with watered down glue could work? you would need to work fast to get a heavy coat though

If you don't have a spray gun, you can do your project in sections. Just don't make the sections too symmetrical.

What is the top color? Is it acrylic or enamel? Is it thinned down? I get inconsistent results. Sometimes it cracks well, sometimes it just doesn't.

The top coat is acrylic. The problem can be with the coat of glue. Even with how much you let it dry before applying the top coat.
