What is a salmon skin hand roll?
Hand rolls are called "temaki" in Japanese. They are cone-shaped sushi rolls wrapped in nori (dried seaweed sheets, cut in half or quarter-sized) and filled with sushi rice, fish, vegetables, and other ingredients. Although this type of sushi is not in the traditional Japanese style, I think making Temaki is a delicious way to use leftovers and this way reduce waste.
Also it's easy - everyone can make it. Give it a try.
This hand roll or temaki is made with 1/2 sheet nori (dried seaweed), sushi rice, mayonnaise (kewpie), salmon (baked with soy sauce and mirin), shiso and crispy fried salmon skin.
It's important to stick to tradition and style, but I think it's even more important to enjoy eating food in a fun and delicious way.
