Easy and inexpensive shelving built for a Scamp trailer with minimal tools, supplies, or woodworking skills. These shelves are damage free, meaning there were no holes drilled anywhere into the trailer and the shelves themselves can be removed or re-imagined at any time. If you have been longing for more organization in your RV but don't want to compromise that resale value, follow along while I show you exactly how I build my own solution.

Nice job! I plan to do something similar to my 13' also, however, I think for the uprights instead of plywood I will use pegboard. With the pegboard, I'll be able to adjust the shelves whenever I want quite easily. Haven't actually done it yet, but it's on my to-do list. Too many other priorities right now. Happy scamping. Love your videos by the way.

That is SUCH a good idea! I am also thinking about putting a little lip on each shelf with trim to keep stuff more contained. Lots of opportunities for adaptations for sure.

Thanks for the kind words and encouragement! I'll keep em coming. I have been meaning to make a video while I'm out camping as well, but I get so busy enjoying myself that I have a hard time picking up a camera. I'll force myself to soon enough. Stay tuned.

Thanks, just what I needed. I'm wondering if there needs to be support for the plywood at the front and back, though?

Glad you found this video helpful. If you mean the actual shelves themselves, they are supported on all 4 corners. The shelf supports or "side walls" each have a block of 2x4 attached at the front and back. If you look closely you'll see that they create support for both ends of the shelves by supporting all 4 corners.

Great job tackling this project. I saw some folks who made shelves added a removable tension bar so the contents would not bang against the door during travel. But this is something that would help my”pantry” in my Scamp stay more organized. Thanks for the great video.

You're welcome! Thanks for watching and commenting. I am a big fan of tension rods but I think I'm going to add a 2 in lip on each shelf and line them all with grippy rubber shelf liner. amzn.to/3Vsbr6O

Great instructional video on how to make shelves for the Scamp cabinets! Those will really increase your storage capacity and organization (getting away from a pile of stuff in the cabinet!) We had a Casita and used a similar strategy of no holes drilled in the fiberglass to create closet shelving. Again, you did a great job filming and explaining this project - I bet a LOT of folks will do this!

Thanks so much! I couldn't take the pile anymore. It was making our trips way more stressful. These shelves have already made such a big improvement in our ease of finding what we need. I truly hope it does help others find solutions for their organizational woes. Thanks for your kind comment and encouragement!

QUESTION: Excellent video! I have a Casita and need to do what you have done. What size of plywood did you use - 1/4in, 3/8in, 1/2in…? Again, enjoyed everything about your video. 😊
@BackcountryDirtbag
@BackcountryDirtbag 6 ай бұрын
Hey thanks! I really appreciate the kind words. I used 3/8 in thinking I'd want to maximize the space side to side. But after some use I feel like 1/2 in would be a better choice for just the horizontal shelf pieces. The extra rigidity would be nice. I am also thinking about adding a little lip to each shelf to keep stuff from banging against the cabinet doors. Hope that helps!

If you find that the shelf supports pop off on a rough road, you may consider redoing them with pieces of wood that allow you to glue along the grain. That should be stronger than glueing to the end of the grain. Or use some epoxy and it won’t matter 🙂

I had to jump in here and comment before I finish the video because my safety brain was so relieved to see you not using the gloves with the circular saw. I know you’re WELL aware of safety but it’s an easy/common mistake to use gloves with any spinning tool and (obviously) a very costly mistake to risk 😬
@BackcountryDirtbag
@BackcountryDirtbag 7 ай бұрын
Yeah thanks for pointing that out! I hope no one is coming to my channel for power tool safety lessons cuz I am no expert. Gloves are just for preventing splinters and definitely not for use with things that spin. Yikes.
