Great protective measures. I have a 1998 13' footer and have one of those chock locks which gives me extra piece of mind on top of my hitch and coupler lock. One extra thing I added was an AirTag hidden in one of the storage cubbies. Can never be too careful!

I have a 1980 13ft scamp that I bought 20+ years ago. I have had across the country several times. I love this camper and will not trade it in for a other one. I only payed $100 dollars for it back then. It was a basket case. Now she is a beautiful girl.

Pictures. I need pictures and information. There's a 1986, Scamp 13' for sale at the military base. Asking price: $9000.00. Seems to be a bit much. I would like to buy "new" but, at this time, Biden's economy has me scrambling.

@@dpinnell7808 You're right. Price seems high, but Scamps are one of the few things that seem to hold their value and if well cared for can actually appreciate in value. Curious what you ended up doing.

We have a lot of the same theft prevention measures on ours. Basically, if someone wants to, they're going to be able to steal it. The goal is to make it too time consuming to be worth the risk to them. So we have multiple measures too. We also added two GPS trackers. Unrelated, where is that camping spot?! It looks amazing!
@BackcountryDirtbag Жыл бұрын
Yeah, nothing is ever 100% theftproof. I agree the goal is to make it too bothersome to try. I honestly can't remember the name of that spot. I stumbled on it near the Oregon/Idaho border. I just looked up free camping along my route and there was a large dam on a reservoir with 3 free campsites. Just a table, fire ring, and pit toilet. But that view was priceless.

I really enjoyed your video, I don't own an RV CURRENTLY but plan on it in the not so distant future and now i am armed with the info I need to prevent thieves from wanting to steal my rv. I also have question about you choosing to buy a Scamp over a casita I don't know if you compared the two , but if so why did you choose a Scamp, I'd love to hear your opinion, and thanks for a great informative video. I also subscribed to your channel after watching this video and will continue to watch.
@BackcountryDirtbag Жыл бұрын
Ty so much for the kind comment and sub! For me, it really just came down to size. Scamp has a 13-foot option, and the smallest Casita is 17ft, I believe. Plus, Scamps retain their value SO well that it seemed like a better investment. Hope this helps. More videos coming soon.

What made you decide to move from the 19' RV to the Scamp?
@BackcountryDirtbag Жыл бұрын
Quite a few factors. Simplicity: much less to maintain in the Scamp since it doesn't have an engine. Versatility: the ability to leave camp set up while exploring, getting supplies, or going out to eat. Practically: I already owned my tow vehicle so a lightweight trailer was a logical choice. My profession: I travel for work so hauling a trailer I can disconnect and have a regular vehicle to get to work in is much less limiting than using a class C as my daily driver. Thanks for the great question.
@toms68414 ай бұрын
@@BackcountryDirtbag other than work/profession, your reasons are the same as mine for buying a used 2000 13' Scamp. I came very close to buying a small RV with an engine (Toyota truck chassis campers), but the thought of registering, insuring, and maintaining another motor-vehicle steered me to a hard search for a fiberglass trailer.
@BackcountryDirtbag4 ай бұрын
@@toms6841 it does simplify things for sure. Some of those class C's Toyota makes are pretty tempting though 🫣

@BackcountryDirtbag5 ай бұрын
@@cherylbaker6129 that is a highly requested topic for SURE. I was saving up for a drone to help get a better vantage point before filming that one. But the demand is so high I might need to get more creative.
@toms68414 ай бұрын
backing a trailer takes practice and experience. The longer the tongue on a trailer, generally the easier it is to back up; i.e. the slower they turn in response to your steering. Scamp tongues are short, but if you're easy on the controls, they back up very easily and smoothly. Go to an empty parking lot and practice, practice, practice.
