Easy DIY 2x4 bike rack for home garage

How I made a bike rack out of 2x4 lumber.
Our garage was a mess with bikes falling over on each other and falling over on the kids whenever they tried to pull their bike out. Making matters worse, the smaller kids bikes don’t have kickstands so we had to lay them on the ground. I made a wall mounted bike rack from 2x4 lumber and bike hooks from a local home store. This worked great for the winter when weren’t riding, but warmer weather meant more riding and the kids couldn’t put their own bikes away on the hooks because the bikes are too heavy.
I came up with a floor bike rack for summertime so that all of the bikes could be neatly spaced and standing upright ready to roll.

We had the same problem and this rack has been a big help. We have it right in front of the garage door so the kids can wheel their bikes straight out and put them away when they’re done.

Thanks! It’s been durable too. We’ve had it for years. And since everything is just screwed together, it will be easy to adjust as the kids and their bikes get bigger.

Example you can first put handle then next bike sadle then handle etc…

Yes, this is what we do. Alternate front first, then back first, then front, etc. You can adjust the slot spacing too. I laid it out so our adult bikes are spaced far enough that the handle bars won’t touch, even if the handlebars are facing the same direction. The kids’ bikes slots are half the spacing of the adult bikes. The bikes are a lot smaller so it’s easier to fit them in alternating the direction and we fit more bikes into a smaller space.

@@michianadad8760 this answer seems so onvious but I much appreciate it as we hadn’t thought of it. I guess it’s just like how we have filled up the bike rack behind the suv every day of the spring summer fall. We have six months winter here so we stack em on the wall for six months ( no fat bikes here, just skiing and hockey etc) Thx so kuch
