Prayers for your son’s speedy recovery. I had a similar situation a couple of years ago. My husband was in a motorcycle accident. It required three skin graft surgeries and a lengthy recovery. I didn’t want to impact any of my brides, bridesmaids or prom ladies … especially since many had delayed their big days because of COVID…So I didn’t tell them and just carried on. I can tell you it was a rough season to get through, but stay strong and lean on your friends and family when they offer help. I love watching this channel. I will sometimes play random videos when I’m working. It’s like sewing with a friend.

Oh, yours was much much worse, my dear. How horrible!!! I'm glad those days are behind you. Yes my son is already a thousand times better. He's healing quickly. Thank you so much for your faithfulness to my channel.

My father was ill and in the hospital. I didn't even mention to the bride or her mother. I was able to keep her schedule and arrange for the fittings that were necessary. They were stressed with everything they were prepping for I didn't want them to worry about anything on my end. I do have many repeat customers that are understanding. I also listen to their worries sometimes also. I have been sewing for a long time and I have just started doing bridal alterations. I am very happy for your channel. Thank you so much for the tips and tricks. I am always excited to learn❤

Brenda praying for a speedy recovery for your son. Thank you for sharing this alteration and your story. I love how you come up with solutions to what are really time consuming alterations. I think you are amazing to be able to keep up that level of professionalism when faced with such an awful situation.

Thank you, dear! He's doing so much better. He came over tonight to see us. His face is now really chapped and scaled. I'm just grateful his eyes shut in time and his vision was spared. His eyelids were burned so badly. What a miracle that his vision is still intact. ❤️🙏❤️

This is brilliant. As soon as you started talking about it, I could see the shortcut but never did before! I love your tips and hope to be able to afford your course soon. I have had several times when I had to slap on a happy face and carry on with my job (I'm a theatrical costumer as well as doing bridal) I also had to take a few months unexpected break when my husband had emergency surgery to remove a brain tumor and was, thankfully, blessed with supportive clients and a backup seamstress to refer to. 18 months later, and Hubs is doing well.

I'm so glad your husband is doing better! Oh, my. I can't imagine going through that. 😱😱 Are you on my email list? My Fall Virtual Retreat is busted up into payments right now and the Bridal Sewing Breakthrough is marked way down til the 4th of July. If you aren't on the email list, reach out to me, and I'll send you the info. Because it's the biggest sale of the year. The FVT is only $150/mo payments right now and the Breakthrough is only $299. It's crazy low. Let me know. I'm glad you said something. I don't want you to miss the sale!

Thank you so much for this information, insight, and encouragement. Unfortunately, I did get hurt/offended by a customer, and now I see that 'it's just the way it is'. I didn't need to lose my joy over her inconsiderateness (dealt w/ breast cancer and had just had an infusion but pushed thru to get done for her. Then she decided not to pick up until the original date cuz she went out with friends instead). Thank you for sharing about your son, I pray he is doing better. I'm new to your channel and look forward to learning more.

I deleted my first comment - because I posted it before listening to the episode. I'm SO SORRY about your son! I nearly lost two daughters in a terrible accident in 2014! My heart goes out to you! May the Lord completely heal your son! ❤️ I have 3 bridal gowns this summer (yes, I only do friends or family) .... And my Dad (as I said in the deleted post) is in hospital again for the 8th time this year.... And this time he got MRSA - in his fragile state he will not survive. But I finished a gown for my sweet friend and bride - and am winging my way across 1600 miles. I may not make it in time - but - miraculously last night Dad woke and my brother was there and called me and I was able to say hello and Daddy said "I love you!" with his weakened voice! I how precious to hear those treasured words! I am uplifted and encouraged! God is good! Thank you for your stories as you teach! I learn so much and I enjoy your dialogue! ❤️ Your videos are excellent! Thank you! :lace:

Hi Brenda, thank you for sharing both your personal and professional stories. A speedy recovery for your son. I found your channel by chance and love love it! QUESTION; what length stitch do you use? You mentioned a size 18 needle, is it a pointy tip or rounded tip? thank you!!
@BridalSewing5 ай бұрын
Thank you! He's doing super-well!! Those young men heal so quickly! I use a ball point just because it tends to be the most versatile for me. I keep my machine on 2.5 usually. When the foot is raised, the stitch length doesn't really matter much though, the fabric is fed through at the rate that I move it with my hands.

I am working on a bridal gown where I am only raising the long sleeve 1 inch. Do you use the same technique on what you did here on this bride’s sleeve? Do you have a better way for me to do it fast as you have done here? It has 2 1/2 inch width lace at edge of sleeve with only 1 long piece of lace that extends 3” up from the band of 3”lace. It extends 3” up and is 1 1/2” at widest part of piece. What do you recommend is the best way with your professionally expertise?

Probably like this for the fast way. We have to do it all the time.

You can sew over those pins??!!! Also, o would’ve thought that you’d want a finer needle for mesh. Very helpful. Especially the story
@BridalSewing5 ай бұрын
I *do* sew over the pins! (I'm terrible!! Lol) & I wear eye protection. The 18 works best for me on app- even on mesh. ❤️ I'm glad the story helped. We don't want to get our hearts broken & burn out.
@angiegregory5705 ай бұрын
So what do you charge to do this? Do you discount it since you are doing a shortcut ?
@BridalSewing5 ай бұрын
Oh, absolutely. With this one, stacking the lace and all. The sewing of both cuffs, pressing and all would probably be about 30 mins. So, I would quote it high incase I got into trouble. I'd say, $50-100. But, this would've only been, maybe $50.

I have a question. Is it possible to create a buttonhole using the juki ddl 8700 machine?
@BridalSewing5 ай бұрын
You *could* in a pinch, if you were really good at free motion and could do a zig-zag type stitch free handed. But, it's technically only straight stitch. I typically just slide over to my multifunction machine for buttonholes.

A wood burning pen would help go around then appliqué and then you don’t have the little “fly away” either
@BridalSewing3 ай бұрын
I know. I choose to not use them because of fumes. There's already a few things around here that I *have to* heat seal.

You asked for our stories about personal crisis and customers. I was an independent contractor for a woman who made bags, pillows, table linens, etc. Very high energy and VERY narcissistic. She wanted all her workers to be like family, but only her stuff was important, not yours. I was adding rolled hems to tea towels. I had an order for 90 that she wanted due on a Saturday for her big studio sale. It was Wednesday and I woke up with a UTI. It got worse as the minutes rolled on. She called asking about the tea towels and when I would deliver that morning. At this point I was in excruciating pain and said I would drop them off on the way to the urgent care. Then she said she wanted me to pick up an ADDITIONAL 40 to be done Friday. I told her I was in severe pain and reminded her I was going to urgent care. Her attitude was " oh, I know you can do it, you'll be fine". So I drove to her shop, crying in pain all the way and waited for her assistant to come down to pick up the finished work ( no way was I going to climb 3 flights of stairs) and the assistant handed me something like 60 towels. I then proceeded to urgent care and finally got some treatment. I did finish the extra 60, but that was the beginning of the end for me working for her. She always wanted to know how you were, but if it didn't serve her interests then it wasn't important.

Now, I would draw the line at tea towels!! Lol

If you want to make an instructional video, cut everything else out and save it for a blog or podcast. As in point and say “I’ll cut here and here” and then cut to the finished product.
@BridalSewing5 ай бұрын
I've literally made this video for you in Short & Longform and you still complain. Longforms have timestamps on them. You can see ahead of time how long they are. Almost all of my longforms go into great detail and include some type of related bridal business story. I don't rush the Longforms because most people want it to play while they are sewing-- ***kind of like a podcast***. If you like a shorter version, I made it last week. kzbin.info9eRIv_n4bYk?feature=share If you come in my comments section again and leave multiple negative comments again **like you just did***, I will block you. This is inappropriate behavior.
