Hey, Shara. The shelf unit looks really nice. I love the opposing/alternating shelf design. I agree with you. Leaving it unstained was the way to go. Thanks for the video.

I really enjoyed watching your video!!!!!! I am a 74 year old Nana and have always wanted to work with wood. I have done very little with a table saw. My husband helped me cut a few pieces for crafting a few years ago. He passed away years ago and half ago and I want to make me a book shelf for my bedroom. While watching you I think I could surely do this. You are fantastic and the shelves are gorgeous!! Thanks so much for sharing. I’m subscribing to your channel because if I learned this much in such a short time I’m excited to see what more you do. Thanks Nana Brenda

Love this design Shara, the bookshelf is gorgeous! In my experience, the "haters of pocket holes", are generally woodworkers who have a shop filled with thousands of dollars of every high-end speciality carpentry power tool, the finest hand tools, and a stash of the most expensive wood on the market. I think they hate that Pocket Holes have.made the average DIYer capable of building so many amazing projects without all the expensive tools. It's a "tool snob" sort of thing in my opinion. Just silly!

That’s a pretty unique design, I like how it gives you places for tap and short items. I think you made the right choice putting the vertical support inset, that way it doesn’t stick out the back and prevent the unit from pushing flush against the wall (or as close as the trim will allow)

I think this would be a good beginners project. Nicely done. On a side note, I am not a pocket hole snob. I am an edge banding snob - a slightly more advanced version of woodshop snobbery.

Great job. For cabinets and sheet-good work the pocket holes work great. I wasted so much time making dadoes and rabbets building cabinets for several projects because I thought it was the “right way” and it is impossible to tell the difference from the ones I put together with pocket holes. I appreciate that many of your projects can be finished in a timely manner because as much I appreciate the craftsmanship that goes into fine furniture I do not have 6 months to a year to spend building one piece. Great work Shara!

Absolutely gorgeous. This is why I hate mdf and the like. Why pay 200 dollars for something that will start to warp, if I sneeze near it, when stuff like this exists?

Thank you for keeping your plans so affordable. I just downloaded & printed them. What is your opinion about changing to 1/2" plywood? would that be a bad idea??
@dianes2300

The only thing to keep in mind is that if you use pocket holes there isn't much "meat" for the screws to grab onto.
@WoodshopDiaries
@WoodshopDiaries Жыл бұрын
Thanks so much for your support of my small business! I personally wouldn’t use 1/2” for this. To be honest, there’s not much I’d use 1/2” plywood for. For the very small difference in price, I’d choose 3/4” plywood every time. It’ll provide more weight to hold it down, more substance to drive screws into, and more stability for this project. So I’d stick with 3/4” personally.

Beautiful….. super simple and ingenious! This is amazing from one sheet of plywood. I like the offset design. Bubby made her cameo appearance and I’m sure Lucy was close by supervising…. Lol. And yes, I now have all kinds of ‘blue’ tools, all because of you. If my wife asks what it is or what I bought for, she laughs and says…. I know I saw Shara using one of those! You’re the best! A big part of the problem that a lot of people have with pocket holes is it becomes the *only* way anyone builds things for a lot of youtubers. It's not that it's "appropriate" or not for any particular job, it's that it turns into a dead-end in woodworking learning.

Shara, I just love the simplicity of this project and the fantastic result! I think when I share it with my Sisters the sawdust will be flying. Since watching you build stuff for quite a while now I've adopted many of your techniques and processes as I've found them to work really well. I try to be open to new ideas and I can say I don't think your use of pocket holes, edge banding or rip cut tools is anything you need to apologize for. I am sorry to learn you've received some unkind feedback. I bet those people don't have a Bubby or Lucy to add balance to their life! Okay, this design is just flat-out COOL. It puts my plain-vanilla box bookcases to shame. It might be for a display, but it's a showpiece all on its own! This kind of stuff is why we keep watching and why your subscriber count keeps climbing (200K just around the corner!). I can add my vote for the Kreg Rip-Cut... I'm not sponsored either 😂 but I have actually been known to go out on a limb and use it to cut to final dimension (shh... don't tell anybody). Also the figure in that maple is gorgeous - great choice to leave it natural. (P.S. hi Bubby!)

I’m most thankful for the handful of names I continuously see in the comments joking and cheering me on and caring about my pets 🤣 those are the real MVPs here. I’m so glad you enjoyed the video and the design and shh don’t tell either but all my rip cut and accucut cuts are final dimensions. I never cut twice…ain’t nobody got time for that 🤣 haha.
