how's the noise level on your overflow? I have a similar setup but I stuck with a 2" pipe into a 1" like in Joey's video. the noise is pretty bad though unless I slow the return pump to about halfway. I'm planning on adding a second overflow with a gate valve to hopefully get the noise down.

The noise is worse than I'd like but it's better than the original design (not one pipe inside the other). I've reduced the noise by choking off the overflow a bit. I have it set so that even if the overflow can't drail the water as quickly as the main pump it only can pump in so much water (so the tank doesn't overflow). I also have the ability to dial back the return pump to get it into a nice balance. A second overflow would likely be helpful.
