I would recommend getting a grow bulb, it looks pink. That spectrum is better to grow algae, rather thank looking pretty for human eyesight.

I thought that acrylic baffles should have an 1/8 inch gap all around to accommodate swelling when acrylic is exposed to water to prevent cracking the glass walls of the sump? Does this kit leave enough space to allow for expansion?

I don’t know about an 1/8 inch. They fit pretty good in there though.

@@CoralReefKeepers Have you hand any issues? I've read many places that acrylic does indeed swell and yes 1/8 in. Gap is recommended. 1/16 on each side.

My water level in my sump is way to high and the water level in my aquarium is too low. I just set this up so there’s no clogs etc. What am I doing wrong? I can’t find any information online and it’s getting very frustrating 😢

What are you using under the return pump ? I need something to make mine quiet. I'm sure thats why you added it . To stop the vibrating noise.

Check out this video on sumps kzbin.info/www/bejne/sGfJoHuMfcxkiNk there’s a section about 1-2 - 3/4 of the way through the video about putting acrylic baffles in a glass tank he shows how the acrylic doesnt bond to the silicone and over time it falls apart and begins to leak and fail. looks good but I think I’ll mess with the glass cutter or buy a ready made sump cause it’s basically barely cheaper unless u get the dollar a gallon sale at Petco anyways i would rather not take my chances on the silicone failing down the road and having to redo the thing

Just ordered this kit. Curious, where do you have your heater?

I actually kept my main heater in the display because it would not fit in the sump. I used a small top fin heater from pet smart in sump as supplemental heating. I could not find a heater that could heat my whole system and fit in the sump. That’s probably the biggest downfall to the 20 gallon sump.

What size display tank is the sump on ? I'm currently building a 75 gallon reef and Petco has only 20long 29 high and 40 breeder tanks the 29 is just to tall for my stand so I'm stuck between the 20 long and 40 breeder...i can either one under my stand but the 40 breeder leaves me zero room for other storage or even my water too off bucket

Go with the biggest you can. It’s all about water volume. The more volume the better. The bigger the volume the slower parameters change ie easier to manage. Worse case just run your ATO outside the stand that’s where mine is.

But I don't think I'll be able to pull out my skimmer to clean it with a 40 breeder only reason I'm kinda comfortable with a 20 long is because i don't plan on loading it with fish just keeping the 4 i currently have but i do want lot of corals mostly softies so i won't need a large skimmer either an the tank is in my living room so my wife wants to keep everything under the cabinet out sight out mind kinda idea which i don't blame her being in it's in the living room lol

I know what your saying there. I can barely get my skimmer cup out of my stand and when I need to clean the skimmer, I have to take it apart in the sump. It’s a pain in the ass but I make it work lol.

Is that a Aquamaxx FC 80 or 120? How do you like it? I have a FC 80 coming this week for a Red Sea Reefer 170 hoping it good quality. Love the sump!

It is an FC80. Great skimmer. I actually have 2 of them. Used one in my 60 gallon and one in my 20. Now that I have a bigger system though I’ve switched to a reef octo regal.

Time is money. Time spent making a sump would be better spent inverting or earning income. In the 4 hrs you spent on the sump my earnings would be 400.00

That’s assuming you are working 24 hours a day. Were you just being a smart aleck ?
