The M4A3(76)W HVSS was also designated M4A3E8 with the E8 variation code identifying the HVSS suspension. This E8 code is the reason for the "Easy Eight" nickname, as "Easy" was the word designated for the letter E in the WWII era phonetic alphabet. As you will learn in this video, each portion of the M4A3(76)W HVSS designation corresponds to a different feature or variation on this unique vehicle.
Thank you to the vehicle owner and volunteers who brought this amazing piece of history to D-Day Conneaut this year!

It's Cool to see a representation of a Canadian Sherman at any event. I find that The Canadian contribution to the war effort is often forgotten so it's nice to see people represent Canadian troops at events like this.

The stabilizer unfortunately wasn’t used well by most tank units. However, the 2nd armored division, under Patton utilized the short stab to deadly effect.
@cmdredstrakerofshado1159
@cmdredstrakerofshado1159 10 ай бұрын
Yes many units did not use the gun stabilizer due bad manuals and lack of training due to poor leadership decisions . Unlike Patton's divisions were he made sure his tank crews got the training so they could use their Sherman's to full effectiveness. Also the later versions Stuart M5 and Chaffee m24 had stabilized main guns as did the late war M26 Pershing .

The Ford GAA engine had nothing to do with the P51 Mustang. The Ford V12 engine was designed for aircraft use but had no buyers because the Allison's V-1710 and Rolls Royce Merlin were better inline engines. The 76mm was designed and tested in 41-42 alongside the 90mm as a replacement for the 3-inch gun from WW1. The British did not want the 76mm as the 17-pounder was a better gun and it created more logistics issues with an additional round. In the end, the 1st Polish Armored Division in NWE and British Armored forces in Italy were mostly supplemented with 76mm Shermans rather than the 17-pounder. Everything else was correct and a very good overview of the Late War Sherman tank.

I note that these guys are all wearing tanker boots or Ammo boots - which British tank crews didn't usually wear - they often got shot of them in favour for more comfortable footwear - or so according to Ken Tout.

I hate to be “that guy” but the Sherman didn’t begin production until 1942, and E8 was not until 43-44. Him saying that the Sherman was being designed in the late 30s is just incorrect. The concept and the design was not created till 1941, and in that year the first Sherman prototype. Let alone the E8. That’s all, great video!

This might be a silly question but how did they clear the beach for Normandy?? Did they announce everyone a week earlier to get off the beach cause there’s going to be an invasion??
@kaaskalifaat1779
@kaaskalifaat1779 6 ай бұрын
The Germans did not allow people to go to the beach because it was part of the atlantik wall. You would be shot without much hesitation if went there and it was also filled with mines. Basically not a place you want to be, because you were almost guarenteed to die of you did.

I'm not sure what he was talking about the engine of the p51 unfortunately went to merlin,??? The wording doesnt make sense, does he mean it was an Allison engine or a Packard built merlin before ford, cos if it had the merlin like the ones used and modified in British comet tanks, it would have been a super bonus, so I'm not sure of his meaning.There was nothing unfortunate about going to a merlin, an amazing bit of kit, so say the experts and hence why the p51 used it.

And yet every German tank from the Panzer IV to the Tiger II was better in one on one combat than any version of the M4 Sherman. Germany basically lost because the Allies could out produce Germany in Tank production. Not a fair fight 1 Tiger vs. 6 Shermans.
