BT-42 was meant for infantry support and fortification busting, not tank vs tank. Stug III was already in service and did not replace BT-42.

Not completely true. The BT-42 was designed to engage enemy armor if needed and that's why the Finns copied a German designed at-round for the howitzer. The German round was capable of penetrating the armor of a T-34, but the Finnish version could not. This is because Finns used low quality materials to produce their own version of the round which meant that the ammunition did not have the same effectiveness as the German built ones. I think it was a heat round and the problem with the Finnish version was the fuse which did not go off when hitting the target.

@@felixbui9818 by the crews that used them, yes, it was great. It took a great deal of skill, but once it was seen in battle, it was respected and hated by the enemy. And having that sloped 60mm of armor, coupled with that reliable PaK 39 gun, the Hetzer was a machine that deserves more praise than we give it.

if you want a really cool 3d franken tank model, i recommend looking at the "tankienstien" tank from world of tanks blitz. easily my favorite Frankenstein tank. tiger p hull, kv-4 upgraded turret, and i'm not sure on the gun 😅. but the in game detail and design just, perfection to me

Hetzer was introduced in 1944 as a tank destroyer and during that time tungsten had been rather rare, Hetzer wasn´t hastily assembled,it was a risk willingly taken for its design as it was designed to replace Stug 3 and 4 in the Tank destroyer role, where it was equally if not even more effective, and hunting one was rather difficult in favourable terrain conditions, but once exposed the vehicle would be easy prey. BT 42 was not designed to replace the FT but actually designed as an assault tank for supporting infantry assaults and fast moving assaults against fortified positions, freeing the few stugs at the time of introduction. Type 64 had the 76mm M1A2 gun which was used on the late war sherman fleets,not a taiwanese gun.. Get your facts together...

Morever the jpz38t was not a pz38t modification, but a whole new design, other than track and powertain they shared nothing, the hull was brand new welded construction. Even the roadwheel aren t the same.

@@chiriematthieu The roadwheels and engine are similar enough to be sourced from the Lt Vz 38 parts bin, but yeah, unlike the Marder 38(t) Jagdpanzer were purpose build for their role where as the previous panzerjäger concepts were Ad-hoc conversions to fill somewhat niche role. The problem with german Jpz line was the same one as with german tank line in general, lack of standardization and overengineering and i am not talking about panthers and tigers when i say this, Pz3 and Pz4 both had too many unnecessary and frankly inefficient bells and whistles in the early war and they did release multiple submodels axing one feature after another at almost frequent and regular basis..

@@lombardo141 the Taiwanese gun is claimed to be superior than that of m41 walker bulldog but since very little written evidence had been presented so far and based on the photos the gun is identical to late shermans, they most likely slapped what ever parts they could get together and called it a day.

Panzerkampfwagen KV-1B 756(r) (KV-1 with 7.5cm KwK 40) is a pretty interesting field modification of a captured KV-1 by the Germans. It had the best of both worlds, a powerful gun and heavy armor, before the Tiger I tanks began showing up.

Fun fact - The German never actually designated the Tank Destroyer as "Hetzer", it was post war name. During the war, the German simply name and designate the TD as Panzerjag-38T As for the Canadian Skink Mobile AA gun, i think it kinda too late, have it been deploy at mid 1943 and during Normandy landing. Of course some say, it found it usefulness at the ground support as their gun could easily use to flush out pocket of German defence in Urban Area in support of Infantry should tank can't give enough support.

More protection is only a bonus that you get from carrying logs on a tank. Since most soviet tanks are designed lightweight enough to cross the relatively weak Eastern European bridges (≈50t), and with a light enough ground pressure to drive well in the snow during the russian winter, it is possible to get the tank out of the mud without needing an armoured recovery vehicle, all you need to do is to press a log against the tracks so the tank can get the slightly better grip it needs to gain traction. As a result of this it has been common practice to carry logs on soviet tanks for a long time, and is thus not a new thing in the Russo-Ukrainian war.

How much do you think it matters protection wise when a log can barely take an RPG-7 grenade, and the log is likely placed on ERA anyway. They carry extra logs because there are no recovery vehicles, not as heavy and bulky improvised composite armour.@@robertdeen8741

Wooden logs are a feature that Soviet tanks carried since the day they were born, if the tank is stuck on a muddy terrain, they can attach the log to the tracks, and so it will help the vehicle to move out

T26E4 A early prototype of M-26 Pershing that was sent to combat test in Europe some tankers didnt feel protected enough by its armor, so they fitted extra armor from made from destroyed Panthers ...let this sink in... in human terms this is a armor made of skins of enemies you have killed... Sadly it never really showed it's value. It engaged a couple Panzers, but nothing more than a IV. Testing though showed the gun had enough power to pierce a Panther from the front and exit out the back

Funnily enough, the bolted-on plates can theoretically work as a crude spaced armour that can shield against High Explosive Anti Tank rounds. This particular model also had a modified version of the 90 mm M3 that gave it a barrel so long that they had to attach a pair of stabilising springs on top of the gun mantlet to keep it from tipping over

That said Zhukov forced them to sign a non-aggression because he fought them despite issues on the Soviet side (the reason the T-34 was wielded and had a Diesel engine was that they learned from that battle riveted plates created greater spalling and gasoline engines were vulnerable to what were later coined Molotov Cocktails).

BT-42 surely is one of the most multi-national tanks, it's modified BT-7 by the finns, the BT-7 being soviet-made, the gun is British and the ammunition they used for it is German, and the ammunition half the time did not work, mostly because the gun was inch design while the ammunition was millimeter design, so there was very small but in this case crucial gap left over. Edit : hypothetically the ammunition could penetrate even a jagdtiger from the front (the lower front plate), but obviously they struggled even against T-34s so... hypothetically stayed very hypothetical, meanwhile the only BT-42 left has been pretty much animefied by the Japanese who have shown huge love towards the weird tank.

NI or NI-1 is abbreviation of Na Ispug (To Scare), name allegedly given after successful attack of 20 NI's on 20'th September 1941. Due to it's loud and rattling noise, Romanian soldiers, advancing on Odessa, under psychological effect, were scattered. Ersatz tanks were created to compensate the lack of armored vehicles in the area. Although it had anti-bullet protection and some weaponry, it was no tank, and was made to create an illusion of tank divisions and slow the Wehrmacht invasion by doing so.

Type 64, it's a premium tank in wotb. That means you either need gold or real money to buy it. It's not very good. It's very fast. I really liked that part on it. It more or less looks like a hellcat... plays the same, too. So it's cool to know where it comes from. The hetzer was a shock, too. That's a fun tank. Very nice video.

The Skink was a good design. Unfortunately, the Luftwaffe had decided to virtually cease to exist by the time it reached the front lines. But it was also found to be an excellent tool against ground targets in the last weeks of the war. 4 20mm cannon were very successful in taking out infantry positions.

another issue with the BT-42 was ammo. Since they couldn't get supplied by the British, they got cannon rounds from the Germans that often didn't spin fast enough in the BT-42's short barrels to arm their explosives, effecting their efficiency.

That is true. The BT tanks used a Christie Suspension which had the ability to run without tracks as it main selling point. They carried it over on the T-34 (and the Brits used it on many cruiser tanks) but they dropped that feature due to being too complex.

The thing about history: is that the best weapons are often the weapons belonging to the enemy. The Romans stole ship designs from Carthage. Native Americans used American rifles with devastating effects against American troops. The Germans were taking Mark VI tanks and making them their own during the war. They had more Mark VI tanks than their own home brew designs. To quote the original Mech Assault handbook; "What's mine is mine and what's theirs is mine too."

Two 25mm naval cannon are actually rather powerful rounds. 25x210mm rounds they are actually devastating against ground targets and the gun itself is no longer fitted to new ships so the barrels and ammo in storage can be used up against enemy troops hiding in woodlands. The trees set off the rounds in the air to you get an airburst effect that is deadly.

Part of it's uselessness was a lack of proper ammo leading to the rounds they did use not arming properly. GuP would be able to order proper ammo, not having to deal with wartime logistics.

taiwan also has CM-11, a hybrid version of M48. it's a mix of M48A3 turret, M60A3 tank hull, combined with M1 Abrams' fire control system and a M68 gun. my guess is it's not just economic wise, it's more about serving the military while playing Lego.

M18 wasn’t used much for some reason when it had a 76mm gun which could knock out German big cats from side and front but I guess it was cause it was to lightly armored which it sacrificed protection

There was the Canadian Military Pattern trucks. They provided almost all the trucks for the British, a large part of the Soviet army moved on them, and were the reason why by the end of the war the Canadian Army, and First Canadian Army in northwest Europe, was the most mechanized army in the world. The Skink may have been a bit too late to the War, like the British Centurion which by the time the first tank made to the front, Germany surrendered and it was paraded through Berlin with a few more. The Skink and its 4 20mm cannons would have been more then effective against ground targets, especially when firing anti-tank ammunition which could rip through buildings, and be devastating of course if someone was unlucky enough to be hit by one. Sure, they wouldn't do much to a tank despite having anti-tank rounds, but they are mostly just solid shot, no explosive inside the rounds like the anti-air rounds normally fired at aircraft. It would be ideal to have with a group of tanks travelling in an urban area, if they tanks were suddenly ambushed by enemies in near by buildings, the Skink would be able to melt the buildings by spraying them with the 20mm cannons, saving the remaining tanks if any were taken out. Simply put, the Skink may have been designed for Anti-Air work, but it would have been crazy good at anti-infantry work and would have had more purpose if used in that way.

A better KV-2 is more accurate I don’t think it has the issue of being so top heavy
