Great tip , thank you. I've noticed my bottom hand sort of collapsing and not holding 'shape' and wanting to 1/2 grip the chanter more like a golf club - any tips?

The only thing coming to mind is perhaps playing in front of a mirror and focusing relentlessly at looking at that hand (and ensuring it doesn't start collapsing). Best of luck!

@@MattWillisBagpiper thanks Matt. I'm working on my posture - just being aware has allowed me to focus on it. I think the problem mainly happens on practice chanter resting elbows on table. The right arm on practice chanter seems to come up about 45o rather than 90o on pipes. When I sit up and let both arms hang the right arm is closer to 90o and, the fingers mover better doing tachums etc. Hopefully this translates to feeling more comfy on the pipes if I use the same posture for both

Oh hell why was it even doing that?! I never even knew! Brillant!! Top tip!! Definitely integrated into every strike up for practice now!

Hi Matt, looks like a great tip, I'll definitely try it, if it works, I then only have to worry about the death grip in my left hand. Thanks for all your broadcasts this year, I look forward to them coming out. Merry Xmas and and a good New Year to you and yours.

I find when I am self-conscious--either recording myself, or playing something unfamiliar, I too have that death grip (in both hands).

Good tip. Why is this video sideways?

It's a "short", KZbin's version of TikTok. For shorter videos like this, they get more views when they're shorts (vertical) than normal horizontal videos.
