Your selection tool is the incorrect one. You need the arrow without the tail to move it without “snapping” in. Great video I’m having multicam problems where peeling back a PIP track only reveals a black background and not the main angle I want on the big screen. Let me know if you can point me in the right direction. Thanks.

I’ve been using FCPX for music videos for years but have recently been feeling I need a better app or plugin for color correcting / grading. Also struggling to quickly add cuts in sync if you want to do very quick cuts or clip changes synced to the beat. I noticed in one video Peter McKinnon showed how he used a keyboard shortcut in premier pro and literally tapped a key to the beat for all his cuts. Maybe i can do this in FCPX but def need something that convenient. I have an iMac pro so i can handle any app i believe. I have been considering switching to premiere pro or even Davinci Resolve 16. I want better efficiency and more options color grading / correcting and need easier way to sync music video cuts to the beat. What do you recommend? Switch to PP or DR16 or stay with FCPX and get a color grade plugin like filmconvert?? Thanks in advance!

I do more Cg, video games, etc sort of one angle per section sort of thing, however I can see myself using this, having multiple renders or captures of the ‘same time frame’. Those things that usually we just avoid because ‘it would be too painful and overwork to use’... not the case with this workflow (also kudos to the comments expanding on the metadata use advice). Haven’t used multi cam clips yet, but I do compound clips A LOT for compositing stuff on top of each other. If multi cam clips have any similarities to compound clips, then the way to go back to the main timeline is Cmd + [ and Cmd + ] to go back in to the previous one you have exited from.

fyi the back arrow right above the center of the timeline takes you out of Multicam. Also, right above the right side of the timeline you'll find a menu (the icon looks like a film strip in a dialog box) that lets you change the appearance of your clips, like making the audio waveforms bigger.

If you have the audio enabled for the multi cam clip, can you switch camera angles and have the audio that came with THAT camera angle? Say, we have a 3v3 online video game match capture from each player, make a multi cam clip with all of them synced in, can you just start switching camera angles and have the sound from each player’s point of view? (Besides the video viewpoint that is).

Pressing 1 2 3 4 etc. cuts the multicam clip based on the number I pressed. However how do I connect together cut parts? It's easy if I do that immediately (press CTRL Z) However let's say I cut properly with 1234 keys my entire clip. Now I would like to cancel one of the cuts so it will be a longer scan. Also how do I change the multicam audio after it was cut to many different cams with 1234... Since now the volume is for each small cut.

@RoyalZProduction6 жыл бұрын
Nite Shade hmmm weird! I would go through the tutorial step by step again once more! If it still does that, when you double click your Multicam clip and you’re inside of the Multicam clip, near the beginning of the outline portion of the scene angles, there should be 3 small lines as a drop down menu and it’ll give you the option to ‘add angle’. Do that as many times as you need to add the amount of performance scenes you’re using
@43yvng6 жыл бұрын
thanks man ! @@RoyalZProduction
@StaceTEE075 жыл бұрын
Nite Shade Go to the inspector and fill in all the Metadata that pertains to your project. Make sure to click on all clips shot by the same camera, then enter the info needed. Once the Multicam clip is created, you will no longer have all the clips on just one line. If FCPX doesn’t know where you want what to be, it will assign them as it feels they should look. It’s a software, but you’re still the controller of said software. Conquer it, don’t let it conquer you.
@bluestringmusic4 жыл бұрын
You need to put a unique word into the Angle metadata. On the inspector, show extended metadata and make sure you fill in the Angle field for all your different angles.

@StaceTEE075 жыл бұрын
Yo Royal! I use Multicam for all of my projects. The way you’re explaining your process, I have to be honest and tell you, you’re taking too many steps. First off, you must utilize your Metadata. Take the time to make your video and audio roles. Click on the clips from the same camera and while in inspector, fill in the info needed, so that each clip has been titled, and FCPX will recognize them all as one camera angle. Secondly, make sure all clips(including audio clip), are recognized as the same project, also while in inspector(Notes line). Once you choose to create the Multicam clip, use the following: Angle Assembly(Camera Name), Angle Clip Ordering & Angle Synchronization(Auto), and be sure to enable Use Audio for Synchronization. Bro, learn your keyboard shortcuts better also. Option-M, will open the box for you to dictate what you want to title the marker. And, your options, for marker placement are either Standard(blue icon), To Do(Red=incomplete or Green=complete), or Chapter(Amber). Once your Multicam clip is comprised, instead of having an angle for every video clip you shot, you will end up with an angle for every camera(with clips shot from said camera), you use on set, plus the angle for audio. For me, that’s 5 or 6 cameras and 1 audio clip. And, all of you video clips will now be set in their proper time code. And, my shoots are at minimum 2.5 hour shooting events(full Sunday church service). Multicam is definitely the best way to utilize FCPX. But, if you don’t properly understand what you’re doing, it’s a total pain in the rear end. Besides my frustration with your process, I loved the enthusiasm. Keep up the good work bro.
@RoyalZProduction5 жыл бұрын
Appreciate the comment and knowledge. For reals! I've changed up my multicam editing workflow since I made this video which I believe was around a year ago now. Shortcuts aren't really something I normally get heavy into as i edit music videos on the spot and cut out 3-6 hours of straight editing so I'm always super familiar with the footage. Therefor, I only use blue markers to just keep note that I have to go back to something or colour grade something better. At this time, I can set up my multicam clips with upwards to 15 performance scenes for a music video in 3-5 minutes without rendering time taken into account. Appreciate the comment though, totally didn't know about the pre-setting options as I wasn't using that properly for sure. Thanks!

I had a question, if I want to do the old "covid" video, with the 4 squares, I know how to move them with "transform", but can I do that inside of the mulitcam? can I select more than one angle at the same time? Or do they have to be separate on the time line. If that is the case, can I use Multicam to sync them up then take them out of the Multicam clip and just line them up on top? Or am I way overthinking this.. THANK YOU!!!

not gonna lie this is time consuming . a multi cam is for 3-9 cameras in the same room such as interview or concert not really music video when your using a single camera . i can edit a good video in a day by dropping performances and cut then b roll because the way your doing it your making it harder to see a speed ramp . and a multicam will slow system down even in proxy . and note your camera angles are not in order because you let final cut label them 12345 and then some skip and show black , you can move them and place them what assigned numbers you want each clip to be so you don't have to cycle threw them to guess which number is which . Just a tip
@RoyalZProduction6 жыл бұрын
Shotz By Codak time consuming to a point. I can mock up around 10-20 clips in about 20 minutes now. I edit off of a late 2017 MacBook Pro with a Samsung T5 SSD so rendering out and cutting up a Multicam clip renders out without me even noticing that it’s rendered. I’ve used this same method for interviews, concerts, ‘about us’ video etc and it also works great. But technically this is a decent way of editing a music video even with one camera as you’re really just using this as a performance scene technique where you’re shooting the artist say the same thing 1-20 times in a row and keeps your timeline super clean. If I ever want to speedramp, I simply cut out the area I was to speedramp, keep the original part in the timeline and lift the copied version above where I would’ve normally place my B-roll. Takes no more than 5 seconds. As for the labelling, totally didn’t know that. Really appreciate this comment though that definitely helps!
