On this venue ledgering is usually almost impossible due to the presence of thick weed beds but following a severe weed cut I decided to have a short session using a method feeder. Because of the depth it is important to make sure that the feeder reaches the bottom with the feed still on. Pellets prepared as if you are on a commercial fishery just will not work so I added a generous quantity of pv1 binder and this made the pellets stick to the feeder and get to the bottom intact. Because many of my local fisheries are very deep I have done this many times before and know it works. Another time I may try a conventional feeder to experiment. Tackle was robust but simple and I was testing my Red Range rod again coupled with 8lbs line and to get the line down I slid a 2gram sliding olivette on the line and a rubber float stop about 3 ft from the feeder and this helps keep the line pinned to the bottom and sink away from the rowers etc. It is important to not tighten the line to much as this will lift the olivette. As bites are usually unmissable on the method bite detection is not a problem. Bait was a simple banded pellet on a strong hook. Bill

Hi Bill, You said the session wasn't wasted because you learnt something. What would you change in your approach next time? Cheers for the video!

@@jeburial3958 Hi well using a ground bait and pellet mix or neat groundbait. I may well try a pellet feeder or a hybrid feeder or even use a straight lead and loose fed pellets. Possibly a straight lead and pva bag. The possibilities are endless and experimentation is always a good idea Bill

@@easyfishing1936 Cheers Bill, can agree there. I love to try different tactics on the river...even if it means a dry net.

It's alway s a joy to experiment I think I would try an hybrid in the river also maybe an expanded pellet might hold in the feeder I tried expander on ordinary feeders up for roach but half the time the pellet being soft caMe off ,the roach love the m something I will try next time

Thanks Bill for another "Carp free" Video. Interesting use of the Olivette and Float Stop. I use the same for all my Waggler fishing and only use split-shot for fine adjustments.

Hi I only use the olivette on pole rigs when I want the bait to get down quickly or in deep water. For waggler fishing I use loaded floats with a few small shot down. Bill
@hunter111uk
@hunter111uk 4 жыл бұрын
@@easyfishing1936 That's exactly what I used to do, but a lot of my Waggler fishing is long range and I found that Loaded Wagglers tangle easily, and in larger sizes are very buoyant even when shotted well down, so I hit bites better using an Olivette.
@easyfishing1936
@easyfishing1936 4 жыл бұрын
@@hunter111uk hi well if it works for you that is good. However I have never had a problem with loaded waggler and if it's good enough for the international anglers it's good for me. The only waggler I have found that needs care casting are the big sliders that use a lot of weight down the line but practise cured that. Bill
@hunter111uk

@@easyfishing1936 Hi Bill. I don't know any International Anglers but they probably don't take their Wives fishing as I do. Fishing in deep water, at long range, with a large loaded Waggler often resulted in tangles as the weight was well up the trace. The Olivette & Float Stop method means I get time to fish as well! Your Videos always give me new ideas, More Please!

Hi the method feeder is so simple to set up and is deadly for match carp and quality fish. The trick is getting the pellets or groundbait right to stay on the feeder until it is on the bottom, accurate casting, use the line clip to help. Ready tied method hooklengths with a choice of a band, quickstop or bayonet are available from the major tackle makers and are excellent for those who are uncertain of how to tye them. Bites can be savage!! Bill

Good stuff Bill does the stretch of river you were on see introduction of pellets in any quantity?I find stretches that are fished for barbel generaly see the bream and roach switching on to the pellet,never had much confidence to try It on stretches that mainly see natural baits used.I have had some decent roach fishing a scaled down barbel approach but I do know the barbel anglers put some halibut pellet In fair amounts.

Hi well I have found that pellets work well in most venues. The first time i tried them on the canal i went from catching smallish roach on caster to much bigger fish. I appear to be the only one on this stretch using pellet on this stretch and I catch loads of good fish on them. 4mm soft pellets on the hook can sort sort out a lot of better roach, loose feeding hard 4mm pellets and I have caught a lot of big bream carp and tench on 6 and 8 am pellets and it's a lot cheaper than casters, maggots and worms! Give them a try you might be surprised Bill

Always informative Bill, I have 3 of the Drennan Red Range Rods (plus a few series 7's) value for money I think they are hard to beat. The next time you are experimenting Bill you might like to try leaving the hooklink outside of the method, I personally find bream, unlike carp prefer it that way. Just a suggestion Bill, please don't take it that I'm more knowledgeable than yourself, it's just a tip II picked up from Duncan Charman when I used to write for Coarse Angling Today, he did a piece on method feeder fishing for bream with scalded pellets. Give it a go for half an hour while you are experimenting. Tight lines Bill 👍

Hi yes I have tried various hook lengths and sometimes I don't bury it but some days it works other days it does not. I haven't a clue why. I think I need to go roach fishing with lighter tackle then I'm bound to hook a tench and then lose it! Bill
