EASY FISHING Last session on the river.

I had been desperate to get on the river before the season ended. The previous day i had planed a trip in ideal conditions. warm rain the previous night, a daytime temperature of 14 degrees screamed Barbel! Today the temperature had dropped to 10 degrees but i needed to get on the river to catch the end of the warmer weather window. i only took an Avon rod with bread, chopped Spam and a stick of peperami! Tactics would be the link ledger as the river would be belting thru' so very simple.

As usual a great lesson. I never put brown crumb with liquidised bread but it makes so much sense when using it in the river. I will be certain to do that in the future. Brilliant advice as always Bill. Looking forward to watching you on the still waters. Great catch great video great work.

Tim Murdock Hi and thank you. There are two things about fighting chub. That first powerful lunge as they dive for cover/snags etc and their habit of shaking their heads which can loosen the hook hold, so a softish action but still with backbone is what you need. I have caught them to over 5 lbs on a float rod with 2 lb bs line and a size 20 hook and that needs some skill and luck to get them out. Good luck with the Salmon. Bill

Lovely session, it looks a great river unfortunately where I live the river Trent is still in high flood so I'm destined to wait until the new season of it was near me I would fish there ,and forget the carp puddles, ! Good tips and will adopt them hopefully in June if we are not all confined indoors...

The Portsmouth Angler Hi thank you. Well you are well placed to get some really good chub fishing so go for it. Fairly robust tackle and hooks creep up on overhangs, rafts of rubbish etc get a bait underneath and when you get a bite heave otherwise it will be straight into the snags. Have fun Bill

Any Body Hi glad you liked the video. My groundbait mix is done to suit the swim on the day, but liquidised bread/ riddled white bread can be used virtually anywhere and most species like it. I can add white crumb to it to make it bind like concrete or gravel to get it down fast or as in this case to get down fast but then quickly break up. You can get brown crumb in coarse or fine and I like coarse for the feeder as it doesn’t clog up. I use crushed hempseed, fishmeal, molehill soil, flavourings and colouring and make my own mix. Much more fun than just buying a bag of groundbait of the shelf, but I do that as well! Have fun experimenting but remember you can’t take it out when it’s in, so start gently is best advice. Bill
