Thanks! This helped me fix mine a lot! The only part that gave me trouble was when you were releasing the ribbon cable to the thumb button area (actually it goes to the ring of LED's), the camera went blurry and it's not clear how the release works. For those also wondering: Lift up on the black part of the connector and it will flip up and release the cable.

Finally success! I did this to my right Rift S controller and it works like a charm now. Having been such a big hassle to do I just tried spraying some contact cleaner right into the joystick on the left controller and wiggled it around a little to work it in and let it dry for about 30 minutes and that seemed to work just as well without taking it apart so I think I'm going to stick with that technique until it doesn't work anymore.

Thank you mister! One tip for extra protection for these IR sensors, you could use transparent heat shrink tube, you could feed it through crack and then apply some heat and shrink it. If you will need to disassemble it in future, just cut it open from inside part with razor blade. Thank you again for the fix, had my left controller dusting away with horrible drift, and now right one started doing same, you just saved me a lot of money mister! Thank you!

I will add that I think stretching the spring is probably equally or more important than cleaning. The joystick that I rehabbed now has no slop. The other one that has not started drifting feels very sloppy in comparison. The X and Y signals are each a potentiometer, also known as a variable resister. Dirty contact can cause the value to increase in resistance which will cause drift. A loose spring can also prevent the joystick from centering properly which will cause the same thing. Definitely do both, but don't skip stretching the spring.
@RomaFixcom3 жыл бұрын
Good that it helped, when you get to the point where you stretch the spring it's always good to do cleanup if everything is already disassembled. The drifting I mean not only in games but also physically drifting that is caused by lose spring and till there is no replacement part this is good solution. Thanks

@@RomaFixcom What part of the metal X/Y slidey things actually make contact? Because my left stick is drifting on both axis, and I've had it apart twice and it's still doing it. 😡 15:54 Update: I found that lengthening the "ring spring" inside the analog casing fixed my issue.

Hi RomaFix! I just did this same procedure on my Quest 2 controller. I can confirm that the joystick used in the quest 2 is not the same as in the quest 1 (mild differences to the actual contacts themselves), but it is close enough that the same procedure can be done! so as of right now, my controller is perfectly usable again! For the love of all that's holy, people, be careful when you do this, alright? and RECORD yourself doing it. so you know how to reassemble everything, And record yourself opening the joystick too, cos there are a bunch of tiny bits and pieces in there that need to go back IN ORDER. those contacts are VERY delicate... also, tweezers are a must, as is an exacto blade and either toothbrush or a brush. electrical contact cleaner is also a must have.

I can confirm this fixed it for me. However, I lost tracking afterwards. I almost bought a new controller but I fixed it. There is a black ribbon connector on the grip that got unplugged and I didn't notice it. This ribbon controls the IR Sensors and tracking. The thumbstick fixed worked but tracking broke. Plugging the ribbon back in fixed the tracking! Leaving this here for someone else who may need it later :)

Great at almost every point however I think you could have shown how to take off and put on the outer shell, I ended up cutting an IR sensor and had a general pain mostly with that. It just didn’t help that you only had to slide a piece on and didn’t show the best way to go about it.

lol I don't know if I'd call that "easy"; but thanks for the instruction. I abstain from it, because as you get to the actual joystick, there are just too many small components for me to feel comfortable both taking apart and putting back together. But it's nice to see there is a hardware fix for this. Personally, though -> I'd prefer someone to issue a software fix. Thumbstick drift should be easily detectable by simple heuristics or machine learning, so there's got to be a way to make a patch to apply to the drivers somehow.

When you put the shell the tabs can be overlapped because they didn't fully entered their tracks you can try to press with fingers from inside on sides and they should enter, if overlapping is less them 1 mm maybe use this spatula and put between them and they should go in, don't use screwdriver to do this it's to thick.

I ran into this problem too. The trigger button uses the spring to complete a contact to sense if you are touching the trigger button. If you look closely at the trigger button, it is two pieces held by a screw, inside the button shell there is a metal pad. To fix your issue, the tongs on the spring need to be inserted into the two channels in the button, not laid on top of the channel, this way the spring is contacting that piece of metal.

Is the thumb stick module the same for each controller? or is it custom for L and R controllers?

I can tell on Nintendo switch they are the same, almost sure that on oculus they are also same (easy to manufacture) but not 100% sure never payed attention.
@brianmonticello55103 жыл бұрын
Worked! So Stupid that oculus doesn't sell replacement controllers or at least the joystick part.

Can somebody please help? I followed this tutorial, and there is a little black rectangle with adhesive on one side that looks like it's part of the joystick, but I have no clue where it's supposed to go.

Do you think the replacements from Switch works here? I cannot find replacements for Rift S :/
@Rokoyuko11 ай бұрын
Or maybe the ones from Quest 2

@@Rokoyuko its late, but i can confirm the quest 2s joysticks work fine. the cable is slight longer in my case but it still fit and functions normally!

First check battery wires, does it light up ? you need to recheck all the flex cables.

mine was giving out rattling sound from the vibration of the haptic feedback. do u think this can be fix by myself? no option for warranty since it is more than 1 years old

So me and my dad followed this process and now the controller wont turn on. Any tips on how to fix that too?

So my dad and I figured out why it didn't work. the sticker was the problem and when we put it back on there the battery didn't get enough surface tension to start. We fixed it by taking out the sticker.
@RomaFixcom2 жыл бұрын
if you do it really carefully there is small chance to break it.
