But Bob, why wouldn’t you just call the ‘guy!’ Just kidding! I had the start capacitor go out on mine and found a replacement for $8 bucks. Relatively easy install, but you do have to discharge the old one before removal. I put the info on Nextdoor and I was berated for doing something so dangerous and I should have just called ‘The Guy.’

This video just saved me $300 for a new garage opener. My garage door opener is working but most of the time is having issue. As stated at the end of this video, led bulbs can interfere with the signal. This turned out true. I switch the bulbs and the garage can be open and close every time. Great video!! Thanks!!

Ahhhhh!!! Yes....I had an led bulb in mine. It wouldn't even light up so I just thought something was wrong with the socket or the opener. Later the remotes stopped working. This is a great video, helped fix my garage door closing issue with remote after changing light bulb for the motor. I watched close to a dozen other videos and read blogs to understand what the issue is with garage motor and remote. The issue turns out related to using a LED bulb for motor which conflict with remotes signal, replacing LED with regular bulb resolved the issue. Thanks @TighWadDIY for publishing this awesome video, it saved $ for me to fix the issue.

One door worked fine, but I could not get my other door back online even after re-programming two remotes that I've used for years. The culprit was the LED light bulb I put in about a week ago! I have two garage openers for separate doors same brand. One works with remote,the other don't. The one that don't has led bulbs. I will change out and test. Remotes have new batteries. Both lift by hardwired buttons in garage. Thanks for the tips. Very helpful.

Thanks so much for this video. What a lifesaver! I replaced the light bulb on my garage door opener and all my remote controls stopped working. I’ve been troubleshooting for days and can’t figure out what the issue was. Had the opener for over 15 years and searched websites and thought the remote control board is old and bad. The last portion of your video remind me that my new light bulb is a LED one. Replaced it with a stander light bulb and Bing, every thing back to normal and working fine now. I love u tube because of this kind of video . Thank you Sir . I also found one more trick which is as follows - -Please check door opener button/switch installed on the wall in the mudroom. Locate small button called "Learn" . Use that learn button. - Press one key on garage door remote. Thats it . This might save you ladder climb to garage motor mounted on the ceiling.

So just how important is it to close the garage door first? I tried for hours a month ago to make my HomeLink work in a newly purchased car. Nothing worked. I ended up de-programing the remote transmitter that came with the opener. Now I couldn't use HomeLink OR the remote. I tried again tonight after watching your video (first programing the remote and then following HomeLink instructions to program from the car's button). Both worked on the first try. The only difference is that you are the first to say to close the door first. Thanks. My wife will be especially grateful to not get any more calls 2 minutes before I pull up asking for someone to open my garage door. First World Problem Solved!!

Great video ! I have a very old opener remote and sometimes I have to wriggle the battery to ensure contact on both ends. Not ideal but this may get you in 👍🏼 good luck

If you don’t have color purple learn button door opener, different the color a learn button or if you have same the color of a purple learn button a remote by chamberlain or lift master.

I just can't believe it. My Craftsman garage door remotes and outside key pad started giving me fits 4 days ago, as it would work sometimes, and not work other times. I changed all the batteries and still no success. The same remotes did work on my other garage door on the out garage. Then I watched your video and guess what I did 4 days ago that triggered my problem..., l changed the burned out light bulb on the opener with an LED light bulb. @@TightWadDIY Thank you again. When I changed the bulb and started having remote problem, my wife ask me if I hit or touched any of the adjustment knobs and mess something up. I told her I couldn't have touch any because the light is on the front of the unit all by itself. The back of the opener has all the adjustments and I didn't come close to any of them. LOL, Unbelievable!

So I have 1991 Liftmaster model 1145LM and I had an issue programming a new remote. I was told I need an opener for that specific model which is a 1145…. Is this correct? I did find a model 1145 remote online which wasn’t easy. Thanks for any help.

Well. Changes the light bulb. It opens but won’t close nothing wrong with it. Geez. Oh lord. Big Typo!! The issue I had was the sensors were not communicating. The door would come up but not down. Common sense after thinking, and cleaning sensors solved the problem. Thank you!

Great video @TightWadDIY on an unrelated note, You really should take that red handle off of your Manual release rope. A burglar can have that door open in 3 seconds with a slim hook thru the top of the door. Pass this on to your friends and family.

Not sure if I’m in the right video. My problem isn’t that there’s no connectivity or program to the remote. The problem with my unit/controls is that the door will close partially, sometimes it just “jumps” a bit, and goes back up. Sometimes it’ll go down a few feet, then stops and goes back up. Sometimes it works fine. Almost like it has a mind of its own. This happens with both remotes, the wall activator, and the pad on the outside. Thoughts ???

Unfortunately no it didn't and I replaced the battery in the clicker first. So I'm assuming it just died so I ordered a replacement. If the new one doesn't pair then I'll be searching for more trouble shooting videos. It just stopped working 🤔

I only had one remote that came with the house. And it just stopped one day. I changed the battery and it still didn't work. The new one should be coming today and I'll see if it can pair.

@@elizabetht1323 I actually recommend clearing all codes when you move into a home just in case the previous owner still has remotes or Homelink devices set up to open the doors. This is typically done by holding the learn button for 10-15 seconds.

Just bought a house have a Liftmaster I've purchased two garage door openers from Amazon, none will connect. The keypad at the door connects (I changed the code from prior owner) but not the remote door openers. When I press the learn button on the opener it turns yellow. When I press the button on the remote, nothing happens. This is the same for 4 remotes. Two different brands. Any ideas?

You got me thinking about this. I have a few brands of CFLs and LEDs. If I take a portable AM radio next to them, some generate a lot of broadband RF noise and others are very quiet. I believe that the offenders don't have good filtering on their inverters and you can hear the distinctive square waves which generate many odd harmonics. The same problem exists with some solid state fluorescent light ballasts (I have in my garage.) The problem can also occur with some usb power supplies. I have an amplified TV antenna whose power supply blocked out all AM radio reception until I changed the power supply. It's strange that GDOs have their antenna hanging down blocked by a metal garage door which can be a problem from the outside.

That was my exact issue will you save me a ton of frustration I went through thinking the remote was bad the garage door was bad the car was bad etc. I really appreciate that and it was my LED bulb

My problem, however, is slightly different, I cannot get the yellow "LED Learn button" to work. When I press and release, no yellow light. When I press and hold, no light. The wall control works, except for the "Yellow Learn" also will not put the opener into programing mode. Any ideas before I have to buy another garage door opener?

Question, I have a Sears craftsman 3/4 hp motor that came with a smart wall button which has an LCD screen along with a motion detector among other things and it sends all the commands using an 18/2 conductor. The lLCD wall box got damaged so I wanted to use a basic doorbell button ( off course without the light). Would it work for basic open/ close operation or does it have to be the same type? I don’t want to replace wall box as I will be buying new unit latter on. Thank you.

I have this same Liftmaster 1/2 HP opener - and can't get it to learn a generic opener code. There must be many different frequencies.
