Wow, great video! I had no idea that the keypad was not hard wired. My door problems seemed to have started when I programmed a new car to the opener this weekend. Today, I cleaned the light sensors at the bottom of the door and my wife was able to open the door with her remote again. My new car will open the door from the mirror, but the dang keypad for some reason won’t work. I replaced the battery, but no go. My next move is to reset the keypad to the door opener and if that doesn’t work, try to change the code. Thank you so much.

As a human, I appreciate people who treat others and live by the golden rule. Christians do not have a monopoly on morals and ethics. I actually find that many self proclaimed religious people find some need in it. I do not. And can also improve upon biblical morals. Does this make me a better person than god? Maybe… in theory it does, that’s a fact. Just being a bit of a smart booty but I had to. Free will is also not a thing… spread love and be kind. I hope you can hear this msg in a positive and kind tone as that’s what I intend it to be heard with… the golden rule sure does go a long long way. But to get us the rest the way to near perfect action is to also not assume others want to be treated exactly like we do and ask. And as long as the treatment doesn’t violate a law or your own set of morals and ethics that’s actually an even better way to go about it… anyway, just trying to make the Bible better.. and don’t forget to change your garage key pad and batteries!

Hey Paul, Not sure if this is your problem but if you run into a scenario that the controller yo just programmed works but then the other starts not working it usually means the garage door opener memory is full. The best path forward is to start fresh. Press and hold the learn button on your garage door opener for about 10 seconds or until the LED light turns off. This means all remotes/keypads previously programmed have been erased. Then just program your remote and keypad. You should have plenty of room to program both. Let me know if that works for you. Thanks!

I also didn't know that. The reason I thought it was hard wired is I've never replaced the battery. It finally went out about 6 months ago. It's ten years old. Rarely used though.

I have the same opener. If water has gotten into the battery compartment you will find the battery clip rotted. I replaced the clip and after putting a new battery in I filled the void around the battery and clip with SILICONE PASTE. Never had a problem again. The rest of the unit is very weather safe...

Scott, thank you for this video in that it cleared up how this keypad operates that I didn't realize. One question, however, I have a Craftsman garage door keypad and opener. I can open that garage door by entering the code and pressing Enter. I can then just press Enter to close the garage door. However, if I press the Enter key again with no code entered the garage door opens again. Does this ability to open the garage door by just pressing the Enter key time out? If so, how long does it take to time out? This is an obvious security risk if it does not time out.

Thanks everyone for this post. I’m from the northeastern area of the USA and we were caught in some extreme weather recently. I thought maybe that had something to do with it.( Cold, Ice etc..) You are all confirming what I believe is a low battery issue. Happy New Year 🎉

When replacing the battery, make sure you NEVER Reverse Polarity touch the Terminals, not even for a Second! I have a Relative, that was constantly loosing Key Pads, and it was due to her, not paying close attention, when hooking a new battery up.

Steven Moomey: this happened to me as a child, I changed the battery on a handheld video game and only briefly touched the battery backwards. It never worked again after that. I learned my lesson and have never made that mistake again.

@@neilbrookins8428 so if you do this by accident does that mean that the pad will no longer work? I am still getting nothing after replacing the battery and not sure what to do at this point.

FYI you may need to replace battery even if the LED backlighting on the keypad lights up when you press the keys, that doesn’t mean it’s sending a proper signal to your garage door
