you can easily rotate an object by selecting the object and hitting the "."period key to rotate clockwise and the ","comma key to rotate counter clockwise, both by 90°. I very happy when I found this shortcut method to rotate. Great video, Cheers!

Awesome video. I highly recommend the placement tool for the OMTech rotary! It really helped me solve slipping problems with certain objects.

If you're going to be engraving anything with a big taper, like those glass tumblers, you can always lift up one end of the rotary and level it off. That's what I do.
@directedt3ch Жыл бұрын
Great tip! I actually made a little riser that fits in the rear holes of my jig that lifts the back end up so that the tumbler is parrallel to the gantry.

Where do you get the Chuck rotary settings that you load at 8:23
@directedt3ch9 ай бұрын
Those are based on the dip switch settings for the motor controller on my laser and knowing that the rotary is geared two to one.

My picture on my computer is orientated the same way yours is but it’s then engraving upside down and backwards. Any tips to fix? I can’t figure out how to fix it.
@directedt3ch3 ай бұрын
Does it engrave properly when the rotary isn't attached? The way you put the rotary in the machine also matters. I'd try flipping the rotary 180 degrees to start with. Use aluminum foil and painters tape on your tumbler to test it, or use a scrap tumbler you don't care about.

awesome video, cleared some answers that i had. but one more that i came across. Maybe you can help me. the red lines on preview go way past the boundaries and not fill the design only. path of laser travels past the design. any idea?
@directedt3ch Жыл бұрын
That is just showing you the over travel. The laser head must pass the end of the design, decelerate, and then change direction. The faster your settings, the more overshoot you'll see.

This looks like the co2 laser. Can I use this with the fiber? Currently trying but having issues with the laser
@directedt3ch5 ай бұрын
Yes, this is a CO2 laser. I can't say if this particular chuck will work with your particular fiber. Fiber isn't usually the best for powder coated tumblers since the fiber laser can effect the metal underneath the powder coating.

Are you making the chuck video on a 80 Watt Omtech?

I have a 60W MF 20x28.

@@directedt3ch Thanks for quick reply. I have a Omtech 50 watt and looking go get something bigger to do tumblers, maybe 80 or 100. Are you satify with your 60 for tumblers. Speed and getting 4 roller and chuch inside it.
@directedt3ch7 ай бұрын
@@germ6122 Both rotary devices fit just fine. I think there is a bit less z depth in machines with AF. The 100W has a shrowd that gets in the way for rotaries. Speed on my 60W is ok. Roughly 60-90 minutes for a full wrap tumbler.

At 4:28 - after following your directions - when I flip my machine on - it grinds. And the rotary doesn't spin. I can't really find much for information on this and I'm stumped.
@directedt3ch6 ай бұрын
Can you tell where the grinding noise is coming from? Usually, that is from an axis hitting the end of travel but the limit switch not triggering. Only your x axis should move since you disconnected the y axis for the rotary. If the grinding is coming from the rotary, you could have a broken pin or wire, or the rotary could be wired incorrectly (from the factory).
@yellowroserentals59966 ай бұрын
@@directedt3ch Is this something that could be fixed by us? When it first powers on, it sounds like the X axis is making a grinding noise, and the rotary won't spin at all with the Y. Once it's finished it's "home" and I use the buttons to try and rotate the rotary it grinds from the rotary.
@directedt3ch6 ай бұрын
Possibly. I'm assuming that everything works fine when the rotary is disconnected, correct? If you disconnect the y axis, does the x axis still grind? I'd recommend posting about your problem in the official omtech Facebook group as there are tons of helpful people in there. Also if the rotary is new and under warranty, make sure to contact omtech so they can help troubleshoot and possibly replace it.

I followed these instructions and now it’s hitting x axis and won’t go back to normal settings
@directedt3ch2 ай бұрын
Reload your original machine settings file and reset the machine, that will get you back to the normal (non-rotary) settings.

I did 😢 now it’s not sizing properly. I don’t know what happened. Changing the steps seemed to have done something?
@directedt3ch2 ай бұрын
@@katyellena5107 That change should only effect the y axis, not the x axis. And if you load the original settings (and write to the machine after loading) you should be back to normal. Also make sure you don't have the rotary switch enabled in lightburn.
