Hello, I followed your instructions here and on other Audioholics video's as for how to set up a subwoofer. ► My rather simple sustem uses a pair of * Control-1 2-way monitor-speakers * from JBL * and as subwoofer a Swedish * ACE-BASS * powering a10 inch Woofer. ◄ With some tweaking on the two knobs for power and (some) cut-off, I am now very pleased with the result. ► Thanks Audioholics ◄ Kindest regards from Brussels, Belgium

This video saved me from sending back my brand new RSL Speedwoofer 10s. It was producing an awful loud boomy sound between 45 - 55 Hz. 50 Hz is the loudest. It overpowers all the other frequencies. I played a 50 Hz sine signal from KZbin & found the location where it was least boomy & now the sub plays flat across it’s full frequency range. 😃

This method really does work well! I've used it numerous times in different rooms and houses, and every time it gives great results overall, in the end! And you can go into even more detail and get even better placement accuracy by using an SPL meter around the room, in any/all possible sub locations, while also playing continuous bass test tones through your sub when it's sitting in your listening position, instead of only using music, because music usually varies constantly and sometimes greatly, making it harder to judge averages at any given specific spot. A good bass test tone (or multiple tones, especially concentrating on frequencies from 15 or 20 Hz to about 80 or 100 Hz) makes it much easier to tell which spot gives the strongest and/or the smoothest bass from your subwoofer. It will still take some experimenting, but this method does help give a good place to start from when considering sub placement for a given room!

A lot of people asked about the placement of more than one subwoofer. Wouldnt it almost always be best to find the "sweet spot" and place both subs in the same spot right beside each other? I dont know the correct term but they "work together" like this and give you a much louder bass response then separating the subs in different areas. I have heard of this from multiple sources and have always done it this way myself with great results. However if I am incorrect or have been mislead I apologize.
@mikehendrix22028 жыл бұрын
+alphazoom No try it, they boost each other for lack of a better word. Put two of the same subs side by side or stacked on top of each other if they are small. Just like in many venues I have seen all the subs in one area many times (not always). Also think car audio, and how the subs work off of each other, and are never in two different areas. Because sub bass is mono their is no reason for them to be placed in multiple surrounding areas or have a left and right.
@mikehendrix22028 жыл бұрын
+alphazoom Hey at least you have a sub in your room. I haven't in years, in fact my old Sansui speakers with 12" woofers just recently started to decide to start cracking on the old foam surrounds(about 25 years old). So now I have two little sonys that just sound ehh after what im used to. I plan on installing new surrounds on the Sansui woofers, but they are the inverted type and I don't know if they still make em. I just love the speakers and they still sound great, they just need a lil fix on the low end.

If you have Audyssey Sub EQ, you just need to find the best 2 placement locations. If not, you'll need to set level individually, and then phase with one sub, then both.

when you're doing the subwoofer crawl, do you only need to hook up the sub or the speakers and the sub?
@JoeJ-82828 жыл бұрын
+xtianpogs You're only adjusting and trying to place the subwoofer itself in this test, so you only should need to hook up the subwoofer at this point... Because basically, you're trying to find out where the "LFE" channel, (i.e. the "subwoofer"), works best in your room... However, if you prefer to have the bass coming from BOTH your sub AND your front L/R speakers, (IF they are large enough to safely produce it, and compliment the subwoofer's bass without distorting), then you could hook up the sub and the other speakers too in order to see how well they "blend" in certain spots of the room... It will still take some experimenting though, so if you have the time for it, then you could try it both ways and see which method gives the best results for your room and your musical tastes.

Question! What about 2 subwoofers?
@MarshallGuthrie10 жыл бұрын
Gene answered this below. Basically, you use this technique to find the best two positions. You'll need to level match each individually, set phase with one, then adjust phase on the 2nd sub with both running along with the main speakers. If you have an AVR with Audyssey Sub EQ, or similar, all this is done for you.
