I'm getting a rotational squeak with my rear passenger side and I might need to adjust my ebrake.. So im going to try this.. I have one question though. I have a 2010 328 xdrive, if i take the tire off and rotate the rotor, isn't that bad to do on AWD vehicles or will I be okay to do that? Always heard you shouldnt spin one wheel of an awd vehicle haha rather be safe than sorry.

New rotors new brake pads new sensors replaced on my e92 m3.. no warning lights after install. But the emergency brake seems to drag my disk. I found the cog and released it down all the way but the disk still drags. Any recommendation- I’ve messed with the cog all the way up and down - would the cables help stop the drag? This is happening on the driver right side only. All other corners are good

Alex Barmine hello mate, If you slackened off the cog all the way the only other option is the cables too, it might have been tightened right up in the past, then work the cogs.

Does tightening the 2 nuts under the handbrake not help at all? I'm sure it did on my e46

What about releasing the cable tension at the handbrake lever, before you adjust the shoes ? You can lock the tension spring off, releasing tension on the cable assembly, the adjust the shoes, then release the lever spring. This will give you the optimum 3-4 clicks on the lever, sufficient for a steep hill start.

Yep, it's important to ensure the cable isn't applying tension while you make the adjustment. Also need to point out you'll need both rear wheels off the ground in order to be able to rotate them because differential.

If you release the cable tension like you said - would you still need to adjust until the wheel locks, then release a couple turns like he did in this video? or would that now be too much?

You either have to have both wheels in the air or the transmission in neutral. As long as one of the three ends of the diff is free, you can move the other one.

Kasey Boyd The handbrake must be disengaged otherwise you can’t turn the wheel and this exercise needs to be done on both hubs

There's actually a proper way to ensure there's no tension on the cable. There's a mechanism you lock-off and it's inside the car - you have to remove the handbrake gaiter to get at it.

I don't see any cog to turn up and down... only 2 springs almost horizontal and roughly 180 degrees opposed from each other... I spun the wheel a complete 360 and looked in every bolt hole... are US spec cars different? Mine's a 2008 M3 sedan

CarLubeTv I found it thanks and it worked great. Cog was above spring on top towards rear of car. Left side turn up to tighten, right side turn down to tighten. Hand brake is now tight again. Thanks

I’ve tried adjusting mine all the way where the adjustment screws come apart. Even with it adjusted as far out as they can go to handbrake doesn’t engage enough. Has anyone else had this problem? Thinking I need to replace a stretched cable.

there's an adjustment position on the cable at the handbrake lever. it has to be clicked into this position to adjust them properly

Guys, this is the totally incorrect procedure, you should take it down with respect to the safety and, it makes you guys look bad. First and very importantly, you need to put the handbrake lever into the reset/service lock position, this releases the cable tension....this tension is very important due to wheel articulation. Also, no need to remove the wheel, you simply remove one wheel bolt for access to adjustment star wheel😎
