It's such a pity you don't explain at the start, however briefly, WHY you move the tee outside to inside. Or WHY aim for the seam in the second swing and WHERE that is for viewers who, of course, can't see it. ---So many important points and lessons are omitted, that would help the student get oriented and better understand what he's doing, and why, and that take only a few seconds to impart. Teachers: Always, always give your students a sound idea why you're asking them to do something. This allows them to sync up mind and body, idea and action.

What great kid! You were meant to be a father and coach. Heart warming to see how kind you are to him and still manage to teach. Great great example.

I know I'm late to the party on this vid, but just wanted to check in to say that if Matty goes on to have a great career, it's not going to be just because his dad was a major leaguer - it's going to be because Matt is obviously an awesome, patient, caring coach & dad who not only provides instruction but also exactly the right kind of encouragement and knows exactly how to build a kid UP the right way! That's the stuff right there that's going to stick with Matty FOREVER, no matter where he ends up in life. ❤

Great to see. Thank you for this video. I can't wait to show this to my 7 year old. Last season I instructed him to "pre-load" just like your son is doing. His timing improved a lot. Now we're working on saying back instead of lunging forward for the ball.

Just let the 7 to 9 yr olds have fun. Don't get caught up on too many corrections. Have fun and lots of reps is the name of the game. Make everything a competition.

I'd like to see his bat start less wrapped around his neck and more up, 45 degrees and athletic. Also I'd ask him to keep his feet in the same place relative to the plate than relative to the T. Good kid, good swing.

Matt. Any advice or a video for t-ballers. My son is 4 and loves baseball. As a former college player I don't want to over teach/coach. He asks me constantly to hit and field. What r your thoughts?

I know you asked Matt but I would recommended letting him hit and field as much as he wants or time permitting. Fixing mechanics shouldn’t start till he can hit coach pitch.

Do you think he is hitting more to opposite field because of how he's wrapping the bat back behind his head?
@AntonelliBaseball
@AntonelliBaseball Жыл бұрын
I personally think it’s because he likes to drop forward and doesn’t stay behind the ball well. Also, has a tendency to start his load very late
@cmajr1232

You think it’s fair to say, it’s also because of that tee work- Working his hands inside out etc? At 9 years old, having that ability or concept hitting the other way, being inside the ball is amazing. I’ll take that all day rather than constantly wrapping, pulling etc He’ll obviously make the necessary adjustments on that inside pitch soon.
@AntonelliBaseball
@AntonelliBaseball Жыл бұрын
@@cmajr1232 I agree I’d rather this. We hit on the tee only a handful of times in the last year so I don’t think it’s that. Just think it’s how his body current moves

@@AntonelliBaseball I’ve been working with my 11 y.o. son on the tee, using the same concepts of moving the tee outside/in etc although he still has some difficulty with that inside pitch, getting the barrel out front. He stays inside the ball well but I think you know what I mean when referring to the inside pitch I believe you made a comment about doing some sorta closed/open stance front flip drills to work on some of these things….Do you have a video you can refer me too?

These mats need thin white lines so you know if your toes are in the same spot for Out, Middle and In setups. Too easy even for adults to cheat towards the ball, let alone a 9 yr old

Seems like Matty is reacting real late to the pitches from the machine. The ball looks like it's right on top of him. Today's hitters get started much earlier and are almost waiting on their back leg with their front leg up. I wish I had done that when I was younger
