If you add a couple of tablespoons of brine from fermentation and leave the mayo out 5-7 hours (i leave it out overnight), it can last in the fridge for months. Learned that from Becoming a Farm Girl.

I learned this from Sally Fallon’s book Nourishing Traditions. The mayo will thicken up a bit more after a few days and it lasts much longer in the fridge.

Thanks for teaching me I don't have to add oil last 😊 I make veggie dip out of this mayo. I'm a miracle whip kinda gal...copycat of miracle whip is made more often. I wonder if I can use your method of tossing oil and then the rest of the ingredients. I'm from Michigan a farm girl and we only ate miracle whip. I had never tried mayo until I was an adult. Easy pezy recipe, Jess short and sweet. But I miss your Gift of gab😉 you are the best!!!!

I feel like my husband should write you a thank you note. Today I was so excited at lunch time because I had some chicken leftover from last night’s dinner and I planned to make chicken salad. I got all the ingredients made up and the last step was to add the mayonnaise. I open up the refrigerator to discover my husband used up all of the mayonnaise and failed to tell me I needed to buy some more during last week’s shopping trip. As I was starting to feel very annoyed I remembered watching your video last week on how to make homemade mayonnaise. I had all the ingredients on hand and was able to quickly whip up a batch. It worked perfectly for my chicken salad. Jessica Sowards is not only teaching us to cook from scratch but she is saving lives (my husband’s) 🙂

Stick blender was the real game changer. I keep my blender on, trapping the egg, then SLOWLY lifting to incorporate the oil, but whatever works best for you. My son “hates” mayo, but will eat tons of aioli, (which is just mayo made with garlic in it, lol). Best recipe is what Jess shared and add 2 smashed garlic cloves and 2-3 sprigs of fresh rosemary, needles chopped. I drop them in with the rest of the ingredients.

I always think these simple recipes are the kind where it's the idea that put people off, because they've heard it's 'complicated'. It just takes seeing someone else do it to have that 'Oh, I can do this!' moment. As an alternate: teenage lads with energy to burn, and a hand whisk for those without the stick blender 🤣

Your Kitchen Teachings are Amazing! I know your not showing products to sell, but I use the same lemon juice in a bottle - I would highly recommend to anyone watching, get that lemon juice. If you don't have fresh it's the next best thing (actually taste's like lemons and not citric acid as other brands due). Love making mayo at home, I would rather make what we need as we need it; you just showed in minutes how easy it is. Apart from Store bought mayo not being good it only lasts in your fridge (after opening) for 3 months before it could make someone sick. Take Good Care 🥂

She should link the products. Become an affiliate. Even a quick 5-7 min video can take a long time to edit. Maybe that can help offset that cost. I mean she's got what 6 kids? She's a busy lady so I'm sure she hires it out now. I don't know who edits her videos, but I love them. The vantage point changes are smooth and they flow so well.

When I was a child, mayo didn’t have to be refrigerated. There were no instructions on the label that said to do it like there is now. I think maybe they had to start refrigerating it when they started adding stuff to it! Just my opinion! BTW, I use melted butter for my oil, the best tasting mayo ever! There is a trick to making it stay creamy in the fridge. I saw the recipe on ChrisCookingNashville on KZbin. Thanks for the great and simple tutorial Jess!❤️

Once eggs are refrigerated they have to be refrigerated. Eggs used to be stored in a cool dark cupboard in a basket. They will keep that way for about three weeks. If you buy them from the store they must be kept cool because they have been refrigerated. Many condiments don't need to be refrigerated unless they have already been refrigerated. Refrigerate after opening is a statement that was added to protect the maker. You can store ketchup, mayo and mustard in the cupboard.

@@theoneandonly1158 I think there is a time and place for the "that's it" video. Imagine you are about to make a recipe that includes multiple things that you can make from scratch and you are out of many of them. Being able to pull these short vids off "the shelf" means you don't have to scrub through a much longer video to find the bit you needed. Granted, not everybody will use a video to create multiple ingredients on the fly like my scenario suggests, but it is beneficial to know they are there if I have any doubt. You are welcome to disagree. I'm just trying to explain what I think the value is. :)

Jess, thanks for this video! I have always bought Hellmann's ... I had heard that making homemade mayo was super easy, but was also told my ex-husband that he didn't care how expensive it was, he just wanted Hellmann's & that I'd never be able to make homemade mayo taste like Hellmann's. Our son, on some level, inherited his dad's attitude about mayo --- now that I've seen how easy it is & I have the ingredient list from his favorite mayo, I'm going to start experimenting to see just how close I can get to that flavor. The more I learn, the less impossible it seems!

Love this! I’ve been making homemade mayo from one of your older recipes for a while now and I like the idea of using powdered mustard, especially Coleman’s, and bottled lemon juice. Thanks Jess!! Where did you get that huge container of Coleman’s?

Oh lol, I buy mayonnaise at the moment because I live alone so don't use a lot. But I used the same recipe 40 years ago to make it, it really is so easy, and great if you add garlic, I remember eating it with a spoon. Wow, I just realised, I'm still using the same stick blender. Maybe I should revive it for the summer when I use more.

Thanks Jess - Minute Maid makes a frozen lemon juice that is 100% totally fresh lemon juice (not bottled, not lemonade) - Thawed, I use it in lemon water, could be great in this recipe or any recipe calling for fresh juice.
