Sometimes it does, but only the intonation / overall sound, because the words are completely different, and it’s sort of the same with Welsh and Dutch because Welsh reminds of Dutch as they have some similar sounds and similar intonation and some similar letter combinations! I am learning both Swedish and Hungarian, but I once confused Hungarian with Swedish, even though deep down I knew it wasn’t really Swedish because I didn’t understand any words, but the sounds and the intonation were so similar! Hungarian is a category 3 language, same as Irish and Scottish Gaelic - it’s not as hard as ppl make it out to be! It’s not as easy as Dutch / English / Norwegian (the easiest languages ever) etc, but it’s nowhere near as hard as Arabic languages / Korean / Chinese / Japanese / Thai / Vietnamese / Indian languages etc! I am advanced level in Dutch and intermediate level in Norwegian / German / Swedish etc and beginner level in Hungarian / Welsh / Irish / Scottish Gaelic / Breton / Manx / Cornish / French etc!

It’s not similar to Finnish in any way, except for the fact that it’s an agglutination language as well, but they aren’t truly related, and Hungarian is one of the languages that have been categorized incorrectly - Finnish is very similar to Estonian! Hungarian is in fact a Turkic language - well, it used to be, because they all come from the same language, so they share words that have the same roots like alma / elma etc! But Hungarian has evolved into a very pretty language with mostly pretty words, probably due to the European influences - I am studying and learning Hungarian and the other pretty languages / pretty words!

1:26 - "A vilag legnagyobb vegetarianus talakozoja" "Talalkozoja" is not a festival (which is fesztival as I know). Talakozni as a verb is to "get to know someone", which clearly is a "meeting". What I love about this channel is how they (mostly) interview local people in local languages. Even though I understand that English is the modern lingua franca spoken and understood most worldwide, I am disgusted how many people (even medias) just plainly use English to ask questions to the locals. It looks quite disrespectful and Anglocentric. It's as if people who don't speak English don't exist. I think we should pay more respect to the local languages in this global era, especially those who speak English. As for the video itself, I'm surprised to hear the word "Tokelau." And the Hungarian language sounds very beautiful as usual. Ez nagyon szép van! Greetings from Japan 😉

I don’t find Hungarian to be end-of-the-world hard. It’s my forth foreign language (the others are all at a very good level and I can use them in a work context) and my Hungarian is coming along quite nicely after a couple of years of relaxed learning using italki and the excellent Magayok language series. I can understand quite well (for example, I could understand this video without subtitles) and while active production lags it’s coming along now that I’m really concentrating on it. I do have the advantage of being of Hungarian origin - we didn’t speak any Hungarian at home but I did hear it spoken. And I do have a good ear for language. Still, I’ll come back to my contention: its very learnable if you have the right approach and attitude!

+szoszk Hungarian language is part of the Finno-Ugric family, together with Finnish and Estonian, however the Finnic and Ugric branches separated about 4000 or 5000 years ago and since those times these languages have no impact on each other due to geographic distance. (Compare it with Germanic languages separating 2500 years ago, and continously having impact on each other, or Latin languages separating 1500 years ago and continously having impact on each other, or Slavic languages, etc. ...) There are about 200 words with common Finno-Ugric roots (mostly not recognizable for the speakers of the other language, but proven by linguists). And the grammar is also surprisingly similar. (Note that our grammar is also surprisingly similar to the Altaic languages like Turkish, Tatar which supposes that some thousand years ago all these languages must have had common ancestors. Some linguists speak about an Ural-Altaic language group to which Hungarian, Finnish, Turkish, Tatar, Estonian, etc. languages belong. However there are no word roots as proof, only the similar grammar.) On the other hand we have picked up some Slavic and Germanic accent and words in the previous 1000 years due to living together with German speaking and Slavic speaking nations (Austrian Empire, Hungarian Kingdom, with large ethnic Slavic groups like Slovakians, Croatians, Serbians, Ruthens, etc.). Today we have much more German, Slavic and Latin vocabulary (and English most recently) than the common Finno-Ugric vocabulary. What we still obviously have common with Finnish, Estonian, Turkish, Tatar etc. is the grammar, on which there was no Germanic, Slavic or Latin impact. So I can say that if a speaker of a Finnic or a Turkic language wants to learn Hungarian then they'll have to learn the same amount of new words as others, but the grammar will be very familiar and thus easier for them.

Comparing to Serbian, almost all consonants are same, but most of people are struggling to pronounce your vowels (umlauts), because we have only 5 vowel sounds.

The only reason people say Hungarian is hard is because the vocabulary is different to other European languages, but is not that hard you learn it the same way you learn any other European language.

It’s very soft on the ears, but it looks like a keyboard malfunction as the language was being typed out haha
