I hope you enjoy this very chatty BEGINNER Junk Journal tutorial! I share an easy journal tutorial using an old little golden book, and I try to use basic supplies and adhesives. You can find all of the supplies at any craft store. I use a simple 3 hole pamphlet stitch to sew in the signatures. I do have no sew tutorials here on my channel as well, I will link them below😃 Happy crafting!

I made my very first junk journal for my Dad’s 80th birthday last year. I made a simple website and asked family, friends and former coworkers to submit memories, funny stories or comments. I then took those submissions and made pages along with birthday cards they sent me ahead of time and made an awesome birthday journal! A couple of people sent me old movies of my Dad, so I uploaded them to KZbin and made a QR code he or anyone else looking at the book code scan and watch the videos. It truly was the perfect gift for my no-fuss Dad and it’s something he can look at over and over again!

I have never made a junk journal. Thank you for sharing this beautiful art. I love to create I haven’t in a very long time. My son tried to take his life after Covid. I have a great support in my family and mental health team. My best friend told me I needed to get back to my art and create. I was loosing who I was. Thank you thank you for sharing !!! Such great advice! Both of my kids struggled with their mental health through their teens and it took a lot for me to be strong and supportive. I wish I had been journaling during that time. I started making junk journals in high school as a way to scrapbook all my memories. I was inspired by my mom’s high school scrapbooks. Later when I had kids I scrapbooked in a more polished, traditional way but I always liked the junk journal look and process better. My oldest of our 6 children are in their early 20s now and I am getting back into junk journaling again- so excited!

Your tutorial is so special! Truly enjoyed your pacing and instruction style. I made a junk journal for my daughter using a vintage book from my childhood, "The Secret Garden" incorporating a garden theme and family heirloom papers from parents, grandparents, and other family members' childhoods. I included photos in envelopes that I had sewn in the signatures. I tried to use only memorabilia and fabric I had on hand; very little was purchased. It was such a satisfying experience. This is so cute!!! 😍 I'm in the process of creating a junk planner in the theme of 80's/lisa frank/smiley face, etc. Basically, it's super colorful with all my favorite childhood things. I'm even including colorful things my 4 kids have made for me over the years!!! I just finished a really cool gentleman's junk journal for my hubby. He loves it!!! It was my very first one. I've got plans to make one for each of my kids as well. My girls are 19, 17, & 16, and my son is 10.

Some of my very first journals (long before I started a KZbin) were little golden books! I made journals for myself as a kid that I used as regular diaries, and I've done scrappy junk-journaling inside premade journals as an adult, but for some reason I've never put the two together! 😂 I'll have to give it a try now! I made a junk journal for my sister for her 60th birthday using the same Bambi book. I purchased beautiful digital woodland creature paper on Etsy to use as my filler pages, and included family photos in the pockets I made. She loved it and displays it on a shelf in her living/family room. I did give her spaces to journal but I doubt she’ll do that.

Yes! I love junk journaling! I remember growing up in the 80s and 90s and saving, creating, and decorating with ephemera. I feel like I junk journaled my entire bedroom at one point! lol but to this day, art journaling is one of my favorite hobbies.
