I've been making kombucha this way for about 12 years now and it's so easy! Using fresh fruit to flavor your kombucha is wonderful, but this way is both delicious AND simple. I take you through the entire process from beginning to end.

When my scoby has produced a baby, I usually separate the new from the old and now I throw the old one away because I don’t have anyone to give it to. So I start out each time with a new scoby. I have never tried it with any flavoring. We just drink it as it is. I’m going to try the grape juice next time because we always have some in stock. Thank you Janice. ❤

I love this! and so glad that you posted your youtube channel :) on the facebook group! I used to make kombucha over 3 decades ago! before the second fermentation was all the rage. I would sell kombucha kits for $25 each that included a starter scoby (we also called the scobies "mushrooms" back then), a cup of starter fluid, and the instructions. I sold these at the health food store that my family and I worked at.

Woo hoo, that's awesome! I could pick up a side business if I could get $25 each out of them! You know, I've never actually tasted it after the first fermentation. Maybe I should try it out?

Why do you use the scobie? What is the benefit?
@ozarkfamilyhomestead
@ozarkfamilyhomestead Жыл бұрын
Sandy, the scoby is actually just a bunch of healthy bacteria and yeast. Those bacteria and yeast eat the sugar that's in the sweet tea and basically turn that sugar into probiotics that benefit your body. Without the scoby, the gallon jar of sweet tea just stays like normal sweet tea. It's the scoby that causes it to transition from sweet tea into kombucha. :)

Melonie, for your very first batch of kombucha, it's easiest to purchase a scoby starter kit off of Amazon or even better if you have a friend that can give you an extra scoby that they have! Here's a link to our family's Amazon store with a kit like I started with many years ago. It has both a scoby and the starter tea you'll need to get going on your first batch. www.amazon.com/shop/ozarkfamilyhomestead/list/28201O4PK06P5?ref_=aip_sf_list_spv_ofs_mixed_d

If you'd prefer to just purchase one online, you can find a scoby on Amazon. Here's a link to our family's Amazon store. If you purchase it through this link, you'll get the scoby and we'll get a small commission from Amazon! :) www.amazon.com/shop/ozarkfamilyhomestead/list/28201O4PK06P5?ref_=aip_sf_list_spv_ons_mixed_d

I checked out your Facebook page and was very surprised to so many pictures of pistols on there. Do you have a need for guns on your homestead?
@ozarkfamilyhomestead
@ozarkfamilyhomestead Жыл бұрын
Thank you for your question Larue. We carry handguns for a variety of reasons. We live in a remote area and you never know what type of predator (4 legged or 2 legged) you may encounter. Self-sufficiency involves the ability to take care of your own needs, including personal protection. Carrying a handgun is like having a fire extinguisher, if a sudden need arises for its use, it needs to be readily available. It also reminds us how blessed we are to live in a place where we have the right to own land, grow food, raise animals, homeschool our children and carry a firearm if we choose to do so.
@user-wv9su4zm7x
@user-wv9su4zm7x Жыл бұрын
Everyone needs a gun on their homestead. Even if you don't have a homestead you need a gun. Carrying a gun is the epitome of freedom and not relying on the system to protect yourself and home. Joel Salatin wrote a book years ago called Everything I Want to Do is Illegal concerning the war on homesteading and local small farms. When you think about it, everything about homesteading is under attack by the Gavin Newsom types. The anti-homesteading pro dependency on the system movement are working hard to convince the public that homesteaders like us are doing something wrong, even dangerous and harming society and the environment. When we garden without pesticides, they claim we are spreading insects to other farms. When we dig a pond or harvest rain, we are stealing water from mother earth. When we carry a gun, we are causing danger instead of protecting ourselves. When we keep a sufficient supply of items on hand for the hard times, we are called hoarders who are unfairly more prepared than others. We homeschool our children to protect them from being brainwashed, but are accused of child abuse since our daughters were denied the rite of passage to be cheerleaders and shake their pom-poms at a crowd. So yes, as homesteaders we all need to carry guns, not only to protect what is ours, but to irritate those who want to demonize us for our lifestyle. I get a little thrill from working my garden while carrying a gun and listening to AM radio, take that Newsom! I fled the Peoples Republic of Kalifornia for Tennessee over all of this.
