I actually think the blue works really well, in fact at the beginning of the video it was the main thing that jumped out at me, in a good way.

At a loose tec, it looks very sophisticated. I was surprised. That means that the only difference is the amount of time we spend on it.

Hiya Taria. Loved it at the end when showing what you thought you'd mucked up, while thinking how to troubleshoot, then say blow it because, 'messing around is totally valid'. You are totally talking to people like me, lol. The going overboard is my archilles heel yet you say simply, do another sketch, ha ha'. That is so spot on as we're all continually learning. I applaud you 😁 So back to the beginning of this episode, I was delighted by the top tip using a wet sponge to cut down on kitchen towel. Although gouache isn't your primary medium, I've been experimenting with it the last few months and I've fallen in love with it. Sure it dries super quick, but I've bought a fab container that keeps the gouache moist and only needs a teeny mist of water once a fortnight or Iso.. (can't spell it off-hand) alcohol, and remains moist (5 or so months and counting for me in the UK, and not a spot of mould in sight). Loving the gouache challenges which handles differently to watercolour of course, yet I'm finally using my flat/bright brushes to block in architecture and big shapes. S'funny because I was wearing an old Tokyopop sweat/wristband before to wipe my brushes. No worries as I don't use Cadmiums, but I have a couple of cobalts, and I did get a few skin rashes, yikes! So that water sponge tub is something I'll be trying for sure. I'd looked at that Etchr sketchbook but it's expensive. I've had fun making my own sketchbooks this year with papers of choice and painting my own original covers. It kinda makes it more fun and personal. I think I'll always be buying loose sheets now, especially knowing which medium I'll be throwing at it. Putting colour washes and blocks down first, without worries of precision, is a fun process. I've come to like this process more and more. It psychologically puts you in the play head-space. And, it works! Your painting turned out great, even if you are highly critical of the side building shading and such. And I love all that commentary. It means when the devil sits on our shoulders we should shove the devil off and be done with the negative feelings. Another side note of painting with gouache is that I no longer need gell pens or poscas. I used to hate how those highlights flake away in my sketchbooks. Now I use teeny bits of gouache straight from the tube with spotter brushes or the tip of a small rigger and loving the results that look more natural in the composition (if that makes sense). Anywho, loving the sketch and will try to make time to see what types of architecture or houses you've saved on Pinterest. That could be another rabbit hole though, lol. As always, 👍👍👍

Great video, Taria. I was thinking before you added the blue that the house looked a bit stark by itself without any background on either side. It takes courage to try something new that late in the creative process! It reminds me of videos you’ve done, I think, on other artists, when they put in just a limited shape of the sky. Thanks for letting us see the ups and downs of your creative journey!

I’m getting really fed up with how bland and milky watercolour is. Every time I think I’ve finished the painting, I come back when it’s dry and it looks pale. I have a better experience with Ink and wash, because I can apply the colour thick to start with.

I felt like this for a while too. I don’t know what paints and paper you use but once I started using professional grade of both and painting with a much higher concentration of paint, now I love how vibrant it is!
