Great tutorial, Rick! 👍 Your comments at the very beginning are probably the most important IMO. Grow mint in containers, because it WILL spread vigorously, and before you know it will take over your entire yard. Many herbs in the mint family are like this...oregano, thyme, lemon balm to name a few. If you plant in the ground be sure to surround them with some sort of barrier(metal or plastic) 12" deep to prevent roots from sprawling. They also tend to self seed readily, so stay on top of harvesting when they're flowering.

I bought a small pot of chocolate mint and started rooting some cuttings 4 days ago. And the cuttings are already rooting! It's ridiculous! I never had a plant root so fast. The runners are even faster rooting than the regular stems, it's crazy.

Yep! That's why you should always plant mint in a container, other wise it will get away from you quickly!

If they are indoors they won't need every day water. Keep the soil moist and they will be fine. If outside you will want to be more careful with the water.

I have mint sitting in water, I change the water every other day if not almost every day and im so excited a few of my mint cutting are getting beautiful little baby white roots but all the leaves on top are whilting and dying but every day the roots get bigger! Am I putting it in too much light? Does this just kinda happen? Will my mint still grow even though my leaves look dry and horrible but the roots look healthy and beautiful!?!?!?!? PLEASE HELP!!! Try growing it in the morning sun area. Mine grows well where I have Morning sun n the leaves grow to over 2” long. I put in my used tea leaves n other water that is used for washing vegetables. The mint n flower plants just thrives. The pot is kept on the railing of the patio. Hope this helps!!

What type of stem should we use, the green stem which is the younger or the darker colour stems which are the older ones? Can I also propagate other type of mints in the similar manner which u shown here? Thank u for this video..

When taking cuttings to propagate mint, it's best to use the green, young stems rather than the brown, woody stems. Here's why: 1. Green stems: - The green, succulent stems are more likely to root successfully. - They have a higher water content and more actively growing nodes, which will produce new roots. - Green stems are more flexible and pliable, making them easier to work with when taking cuttings. 2. Avoid brown stems: - The brown, woody stems are more mature and have a lower water content. - They are less likely to root well, as the tissues are more lignified and less receptive to rooting. - Brown stems can be brittle and prone to drying out, which reduces the chances of successful propagation. When taking mint cuttings: - Select the young, green stems that are 4-6 inches long, just below a set of leaves. - Make a clean, angled cut just below a leaf node, as this is where the new roots will emerge. - Remove the lower leaves, leaving only the top 2-3 sets of leaves. - Plant the cuttings in a well-draining potting mix or rooting medium. - Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged during the rooting process. With the right conditions, the green mint cuttings should root within 2-4 weeks, allowing you to transplant them and grow new mint plants. Avoid using the brown, woody stems, as they are less likely to root successfully and establish new, healthy plants.

Yes this method works with a lot of herbs, using green stems also helps because the green stems tend to grow more as well

The thing you have to understand about this is KZbin is all about how long the video is watched. They promote videos more if they are longer than 6 to 8 minutes. So a lot of us "creators" have to add some additional information on simple subjects so that KZbin will show the video to more people.
