🎉 I'm on a "use it up" mission this year. Funny little book of matches - great, put it next to the candle and use it instead of the lighter. Loads of samples in my suitcases... Great, let's work all the way through them and spa day it, every day. Half bottle of bathroom cleaner lurking at the back of the cupboard... OK, I hear you, let's scrub the taps. I'm hoping to move to the other end of the country later this year, so I'm challenging myself to use up all the "scraps" in my life and only move with great, favourite things ❤🎉

I am also looking to use or give away - fortunately I have a neighbor who is happy to receive the groceries I am not going to get to. On Moving, Gayle Goddard has some great videos on moving, she is a professional organizer who has helped many people prep for moving, and also worked with clients on the unpacking and organizing at their new homes (there are videos on both)

I'm simplifying my life by deciding that I'm not gonna be a gym girlie lol for a long time I thought that I should go to the gym but I realized that the barrier to working out at home is just that much lower. All I need to do is put on my workout clothes and cue up a workout video. By now it's a habit to just immediately put on workout clothes when I wake up. Sure, maybe I don't "properly" work out each muscle group with weights or whatever, but I'm moving and that's what matters.

Exactly this! I’ve been working out from home for the past year and I’m more consistent. I have the resistant bands and few dumbell I need and I still experience DOMS as bad as I did going to the gym. So it works out!

I have been working out at home since P90x came out on dvd. I love the environment of a gym sometimes. But, I also hate paying for the experience when I can simply do mostly everything at home. Both have their advantages and disadvantages. Here is the correct answer, do whatever works for you, love yourself, and enjoy the movement. Remember, if it were easy everyone would do it.

I get decision fatigue easily. To help, i have designated a color for each day of the week in my wardrobe. Its like having a mini Monday capsule wardrobe. It reduces my clothing options to 3 at max. Bonus: when I need a reminder if it's actually Thursday, I can peak down and know for sure 😉

I lost 60 lbs last year and I was shocked when I went through all the clothes that I didn’t fit into and dragged around with me for 10+ years thinking…these might fit me someday. Well now they fit me and I let most of them go because I know I’ll never wear them. My closet is now filled with clothes that fit me and I know I’ll wear. If I go an entire year without wearing something I’ll get rid of it because there’s no excuse that I might be able to use it….someday. I want to implement the 10 minute reset for sure. Looking in my closet when I want to buy clothes - I usually buy the same thing over and over so being able to see my wardrobe is a reminder that I don’t need another blue sweatshirt. Maybe even take a pic of my closet so when I’m out I can look at that when I’m tempted to buy another black hoodie. This was a fantastic video!

This is what I need. I am minimal, but before I got my spring clothes out I had it in my head I needed a new pair of blue shorts. Was looking for some but decided to get the box out first and check. Sure enough I didn’t need them. I had only nine things in that spring wardrobe and didn’t even recall one was blue shorts! So you’re right. I think I need to take photos of what I have too! 😊

I'm the same! So much of my clothing I find that I don't end up using, so I just get rid of them and donate them. You never remember any of the stuff that you give away because you don't really need most of the things that you have. It's just a consumer mentality and the idea that you "might need this" at some point. So I'm constantly going through my stuff and getting rid and only going to keep a certain amount of clothing items because I don't like having clutter. Clutter leads to a cluttered mind and anxiety because you can be overwhelmed by all this stuff that you *think* that you need, but you don't really need. So I prefer to just keep what I actually use, and then that means I do less laundry loads, as well. I also think that the minimalist ideology can apply to other areas of your life... keeping the good friendships, the people that really elevate you and improve your life versus just having a bunch of acquaintances you don't really vibe with.

I’m also minimalist-ish. I gravitated towards it for more than one reason. I downsized from a house to an apartment, and , although I’m not at death’s door, I don’t want to leave a ton of stuff behind that my son will have to deal with when I die. I do still have way more clothes than a minimalist has, but I wear them, and I do closet clean outs at least once a year, sometimes twice. My non-clothes closets and kitchen and bathroom cabinets are not overflowing any more. My aim is to have every single thing in my apartment be useful and regularly used, or bring me happiness by looking at. The hardest thing for me so far has been getting rid of a lifetime of Christmas decorations. I am down to an amount that fits into the entry hall coat closet….with room for coats. I’m still not up to dealing with family photos and personal papers, cards, etc. But I’ll get there. I’m amazed I’ve come this far. Getting to a point where your possessions do not possess you, is definitely doable. 🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳

I bought a cute pink rolling chair at Marshall’s for $70. The wheels sucked but I thought I was now or never. A month later I found a really comfortable brown rolling chair that rolled like butter for only $10 bucks. The looks of the chair didn’t really matter as I always throw a blanket over it because I have cats. Functionality won over looks. And something old won over brand new.

I like what Josh Becker says about minimalism. Just eliminating everything that does not serve you. I will never be the person who gives all my possessions away. But I will edit and remove things that don't serve are redundant or simply are broken, tattered etc. So this was helpful to show ways of maximizing your time and money. I'm here for it in 2024? 🥳🥳

I agree with everything except automatically getting rid of things you forgot that you own. I just had this happen to me yesterday and it was pretty shocking to me that I forgot, TBH. I decided to keep the item, use it, and replace a worn out similar item with it that was in worse shape. I guess I'm suggesting discretion when deciding what to toss. Thanks for a very helpful and encouraging video!

I take pictures of things I want to impulse by. If I remember to look at the picture days or weeks later, I’ll consider treating myself (within reason). 99% of the time, I forget about the picture and therefore, forget about the item. If I *really* want/need something, it wouldn’t be forgotten.

I have always picked out my outfits the night before and usually try to prepare my lunch then as well. Over the weekend however, I downloaded the Indyx app and just cataloged about 15 items. By doing that I have already made 3 different outfits out of one pair of pants and just a few other items including shoes and jewelry. I have a feeling that this will be my new favorite thing to make sure that I am maximizing my cost per wear and actually seeing what I do and do not need in my wardrobe. 🥳 I figured out that my shopping was an actual addition about 6 months ago and have since made tremendous strides to knock out that bad habit thanks to watching you. I made myself sick when I went back and actually tried to track all the money that I had spent in a year; something about having to type all those numbers into a spreadsheet and watching that number grow is horrific and quite eye opening. I am never going back!!

I'm also trying to style more and utilize what I have. Recently I realized I don't need a yoga or gym outfit per se, I can wear soft T's and other non-workout tanks when I exercise. I'm also experimenting with wearing more casual tops under a blazer or cardigan, for work. My favorite tip is spending more in the categories important to you. Where is your green duffle bag from?♥

Yes! I call it “auditioning” my items. I wear it (or use it) to see if it gets A role in my life. My real life....not the fantasy one in my head. If the audition is successful, yay, there is a part in my life. If not, time to pass it along because there is likely someone else who would like to have it.

🥳 Good list. This morning I was watching a video talking about French Girl clothes for 2024, so I started shopping for "burgundy" on my favorite thrift store online website, while listening to the video. I spent a good half hour in "burgundy," didn't find anything I liked, went on with my day. LATER, much later, I realized: I already HAVE a burgundy wool beret FROM FRANCE that I'm not wearing enough. It's a little snug, and needs to be stretched, because it's authentic French wool, and my hair isn't very accommodating of this style at the moment. Now I have to figure out how to WEAR IT finally and make it work with my life, because burgundy is "in" now. Oh yeah -- and that Herman Miller chair, right on. I bought one (not like yours, but Herman Miller nonetheless) and it's awesome. Yours is absolutely gorgeous. You're going to love it for years. I bought a Honda Element in 2010 for the same reason: practicality and cost per use. I still have it and it just rolled over 320,000 miles. People are shocked that it has that many miles on it; it hardly looks used at all.

My top tip is to, for each item or group of items, think in detail how much maintenance time/energy does this item require - dusting, vacuuming, scrubbing, folding/hanging/ironing/dry-cleaning/laundry-sorting, etc. For me, I wash all laundry together, and except for a few items (hang dry), it all goes in the dryer on medium together, then it all goes in my 'clean laundry' mesh basket together.

I think my husband and I have nailed it by now but it took us some years. Some things that we do: only open and use one bottle/tube/container etc. of something (one bottle of shampoo, one lipstick, one pack of coffee), use up before replacing, only having one item of its kind (one whisk, one pan, one pair of black jeans), buying quality over quantity, mending before discarding, having a "work uniform", watching your cost per use/wear and get it as high as possible.

Great video! In my closet if I come across something I'm not wearing, I stop and ask myself why. There is always a reason, just sometimes it's not obvious without thinking about it or trying it on again. Usually it's something I can fix, like it needed to be hemmed, paired with an under shirt, cuff the sleeves etc. Then I take it out of my closet and either do the thing immediately or put it in a pile of garments to fix. Then I put it into an outfit asap. If the problem is that it is uncomfortable, then as much as I might like it, I donate it anyway.

🥳 I learned about the 5-second rule from another youtuber a few years ago, and it actually helped me to throw away an item in my very first decluttering sprint. I felt so silly for having a difficult time with basically trash (old makeup samples, toiletry items, etc.) but I was raised to not be wasteful to the point that it was a problem for my bathroom cabinets! After hesitating, counting from five, and letting go, it became easier every time, but I vowed never to accept free stuff unless I knew for sure that I would use it! Love the 10-minute reset! It's been a great way to wind down every evening before bed and has become the routine that calms me down before turning out the lights ☺️

🥳 great tips as always. I have a mostly decluttered lifestyle with 2nexceptions that I will be focussing on this year. 1 is my wardrobe. Being a larger person, I always feel less than I want to in my clothes, plus my lifestyle is so basic now that I am retired I get tired of the same old thing, so I spend way too much on clothing that isn’t high quality and has a very short shelf life, or really isn’t flattering after all. I am going to try and learn more what suits me and my lifestyle and reduce spending on pieces that don’t do that. Also to shop my extensive closet and declutter a lot. The second focus will be on streaming our food budget. Honestly we don’t feel like we eat like kings, but spend $1,200 for w people monthly, which is outrageous! I am already working towards managing our food budget much more efficiently this year.

Use it up.... I started this back in 2019 & if I get to a point where I'm just over it I grab something else that needs to be used & I keep rotating until all of them are gone. I barely buy new products anymore because I get bored easily so I'm busy just rotating old stuff constantly.

Every time I watch your channel I do a clean out haha. It makes me realise how much I hold onto and how much I am obsessed with one thing for a week then I forget about it. 😂 I found your channel because I was looking for ways to organise a then very small shared closet space. I’ve found the content really valuable and thinking more about style and shopping in terms of overarching values (also a mild shopping addiction related to how im feeling emotionally). thank you for the work you do! ❤

Putting jeans, tee shirt, underthings, & socks out the night b4 works really well so as not to waste time when you are half awake in the morning. I also bathe & shampoo in the eve which allows my long, thick hair time to dry. Filling the coffee maker with water & K cup the eve before saves times and may allow me to sit quietly and enjoy my coffee before heading to work.

I actually made use of #8 by sort of reversing reversing #9. When I decluttered almost 2 years ago I came across a bag that I bought many years back - second hand and for a low price. It didn’t fit my lifestyle when I bought it, so I never used it. When I found it and reevaluated it use-case, it just ticked all the boxes for what I needed and I’ve used it on a daily for almost 2 years, with a current cost per wear at $0,03 😅 So sometimes before getting rid of that one thing you forgot about - think about how it could fit your current lifestyle. If it still doesn’t, get rid of it. But if it does, you might actually be able to keep off buying something else! 😊

🥳 after writing this comment I'm going to start my wish list. Thankfully I don't have to make wardrobe choices every morning, as a nurse I wear scrubs and my employer says they 14:09 will be black...makes the morning super easy. Now to my wish list in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 lol

🥳 Another great video! I am slowly changing up things that don’t serve me anymore…during COVID I developed some terrible habits, but now have conquered some and I am going to keep going. Thanks for the guidance and inspiration 😁

Hi Christina, I started to watch your channel about a year ago. You mentioned that you were a full blown Aritiza girl, but how do you see your relationship with this brand now? Can you do a video on that? Also, I am based in Tokyo, and in Japan, it is really hard to return things. I see content creators purchasing an item, shoot a video and return an item on YT platform. How do you feel about that? I know you also have a channel that you do with other of your fellow content creators about sustainable fashion. Can you talk about this topic on that channel or on this channel, too? Thank you!

Always food for thought. I'd started doing a couple of this to simplify grim winter mornings but putting clothes together also helps sift your wardrobe. 🥳

I loved this video Christina! Some great ideas for 2024! I’m in Hamilton, so not too far away from you and it’s been so cold! Hard to get motivated in this weather. But your video has definitely helped. I’m going to start the 5,4,3,2,1 today! 🥳

🎉 Very good video with funny little quips! When entertaining or having friends over, I no longer just buy “ new.” I check to see what’s on hand that can make a good meal. I set out my salad dressings on a tray and it looks so nice. In meanwhile, I created a great meal and didn’t run to the store to break the bank. I celebrate people over things!

🥳 These all seem great, excited to try them out! 😁 I'm gonna have to rework #9 for myself though, my ADHD forgetting powers are too powerful 😅 One time I put my everyday medicine out of its usual spot while searching for something else, and then wondered for the next month or so why I feel so crappy 🙃 But I'm positive I can make it work 😁

I was never a procrastinator until I married my husband. Now he’s better about things and I’m worse. I do have some health problems. But I’m trying to do better. I just had five extra people visiting and a baby. And I’ve been jumping up constantly. So the next few days I’m going to be on my couch. Because I’m tired. Right now my kitchen is a mess. Which will have to wait until til tomorrow. I’m sitting watching videos tonight. I haven’t been able to for the last four or five days. But once I’m rested I’ll be cleaning and doing a lot of laundry. So I will be using the 5,4,3,2,1 method.
