A little over three years ago my sister passed away. It was extremely hard on my mother. Mom has had aquariums when I was young. And the memory of that is what made me want to get into them. All these years later she got back into it. It has helped her in the grieving process tremendously. Keeping fish has also helped me in my journey to get clean from drugs and stay clean. Five years in fact!

That is wonderful to be able to honor your sister by finding joy. I’m sure she would not want either of you to be sad. Miss her but I believe those that love us truly want us to keep going and find joy every day.

I know I’m biased say I will just say so, but for 100% if I have a limited budget with a tank size maxing at 75 gal I’m stuffing Mbuna in there, how many? Well I can GIVE away at least 40, so let’s say 40 labridochromis and psuedotropheus, mpanga, solosi, friebergi, Acei , 4 different types, it will self reproduce before you know it and feel established after as little as 6 months. They will peck at eachother but with enough water movement and rock structure it will be the tank that keeps on giving! Love it! Stay happy and healthy my friends!!! 😊❤️

My first aquerium was my most stressful pet ever as was only issues with it and wasn't able to find out why. Was fully cycled and running, was testing my water, getting perfect readings, but dead fish/shrimp every few months. Even went to an aquerium shop and they were stumped. Gave up for a year but really wanted a shrimp tank. Lots and lots of forum searching and turns out I have copper pipes for my tap water. Changed to bottled water and have had the most beautiful and perfect shrimp tank since. Stress free and so relaxing. It's a tiny 10 liter tank with only shrimp, but I love it and am so proud of my aquscape. Now cycling my 2nd tank, planning to get a betta fish. :3

You are totally correct that the first decision should be choosing the fish first. Although I purchased a 10 gallon tank for my desk in my home office. It couldn’t have held more than that, but I’ve already gotten a 20 gallon tank for my office because I was cycling the tank and I’m like well. It doesn’t make sense to cycle it for just 10 little nano fish. I can get a 20 gallon tank and cycle it at the same time.

One thing I would add. I put my 60 gallon aquarium on a nice piece of furniture. Mine is on an expensive buffet. Between the drawers is a huge hollow spot for all the plug-ins and air pump etc. Don't settle for the particle board stand.

I'm going to be working on, well, mostly my dad will be working on a stand for me, so I can get a bigger tank. My space is limited, so I designed a stand that will go along a wall, most of it. It'll be 5 feet long and about 15 inches deep. This way it won't take up space that isn't already being taken up. I currently have dog beds along that wall, but that'll be easy to move. And it'll give me space for a 20 gallon, and the 10 gallon I already have, and then give me about another foot of space for...whatever I need it for. It'll also have a shelf the same length in the middle, for plenty of storage. I'm looking forward to it, as this 10 gallon is simply not enough right now lol. So, while I wait for that to be built, I will be saving up money to get everything I need for that 20 gallon, and also letting a filter sponge establish bacteria in my 10 gallon, so I can get that 20 cycled really quickly.

you can set up large tanks in a mobile home but it takes some extra step's. you will have to pick a permanent location hire a handy man if you do not posses the skills yourself and have footers and bracing installed under the floor all the way to the ground. also inspect the flooring itself mobile homes tend to have weak floors to begin with so replace anything you find weak or made of inferior materials. i have a 165g and a 125g had both setup in my previous home witch was a mobile home as a side note not only did bracing it make it safe for a large tank it also added alot of rigidity to the rest of the room as well.

Great video. I’m thinking about getting back into the hobby after a long hiatus. Question… maybe stupid question lol.. must a canister filter go below the tank, or can it be placed higher? I have awful knees, so I can’t keel, & sometimes I have a bad back. I think titanium knees are in my future. I never worked with a canister filter, but would like to try. Or maybe, hob’s are the best option for me? Thank you, & have a great Sunday 👍🏼
@KGTropicals3 ай бұрын
Depends on the size of the tank. If you're only getting a 55 gallon, then a hob is perfectly fine. Even if you went larger, 2 hob with one on each end will work. (Lisa)

From somebody who has kept aquariums all my life I finally made the plunge a few years ago got in the saltwater a few years later I bought my dream tank and 8 foot long 3’ x 2’ saltwater tank This was probably the worst decision I ever made done nothing but stress due to the scale and difficulty of keeping a tank size I am currently working on removing everything saltwater related and taking it back to freshwater in hopefully having near maintenance free tank

When selecting a fish tank, it's important to consider your space and budget limitations before choosing the fish. For example, opting for angelfish might not be practical if your dorm can only accommodate a small, one-foot cube tank. You should at least be aware of your space and budget limits before ever thinking about fish.
