I would stock SOME canned beans. If you're stuck without power, you won't want to waste butane/propane to cook those dry beans. Having some canned ready-to-eat should be part of emergency planning. Some Texans were without power AND water for a week or more in Feb polar freeze event.

I think having an Insta pot is a major item to have. If you have a generator you can use it to cook beans much quicker than without one. Or if your just trying to use less electricity. Also cooks meat to tender quicker.
@rach414843 жыл бұрын
I definitely see the benefit of having some canned food items for exactly the reason you are saying. For the purposes of stocking up in case supply chain issues cause future food shortages or inflation, however, I agree with Hope and Larry. I always keep both types in my pantry for the reasons that both you and Hope and Larry state.

Recently, little jars of jams and mustards were reduced at the same store chain also to a quarter. Once the jam is gone, the jars will be turned into containers holding handmade face, body, foot cream ready to be given away next Christmas. Keep 👀 open for deals

Totally agree on the price difference between dry and canned beans, but I would suggest keeping some canned on hand for emergencies. I live in Texas and have an electric stove. During the winter storm in February, it was impossible to cook beans from scratch. Our power would kick on for 15 min and go off for hours, so the most we could do was cook in short spurts. Thank you for this video! Such an important topic and after living through that storm, I know how important it is to keep an emergency stock of non perishable food.

It’s doable on a small budget!

We have found places like Costco and restaurant wholesalers who sell food by the gallon. We will buy a full gallon and will open and re-can them into our Mason jars. We can buy a gallon can of ketchup for the price of a larger size bottle at Walmart. We have bought through Amazon online as well. We try to grow and can everything but we don’t have a large enough garden to can up a full years worth of each type of food. Individual small cans of veggies, fruit, etc is way to costly to purchase. The gallon cans are the way to go.

We missed our own premiere last night, too. Larry came home with his back out. He was in incredible pain walking across the floor. I grabbed the liniment and ice. Dealing with this unexpected event threw us totally off kilter and we missed the live premiere. He's much better this morning. A little sore. But, he went into work.

Hope larrys feeling better now. We shop mainly at aldi but do buy odd bits at the other supermarkets. I have been buying lidls veg boxes £1.50 each. Theyre fantastic, saves me at least £5 a go. 2 items in box are worth more than we pah for the box. On yr advice ive also go to turkish supermarket for good too

How are the prices at the Turkish grocer? I love to know how our tips work when people don't live in the US.

Make sure you have tons of water stockpiled if you’re going to need to deal with dry beans. I would rather use water to drink but dry beans do make way more in general. Just takes longer and more water. I make rolled oats by just microwaving w almond milk for one minute then covering and letting sit maybe five minutes to soak up liquid.

You are right about those “baby” carrots in the bag at the store.
