I found a samsung plasma full hd 42 inch on the waste disposal. And found 1 faulty capacitor on the power board. Cost 98 euro cents to make it, now works perfectly in the bedroom. I am happy with it. Thanks.

Thanks so much; I was able to fix my 50 inch Samsung TV last night with the help of your video. I cost me about $6.00 for the parts. The capacitors that I replaced were not bulging---they all seem to look like someone used a black marker on top of them. I replaced six capacitors of different ratings and after reassembling my TV and hitting the power button, my television has new life. Again, thanks for posting an excellent repair video.

Great video. I would like to say to anyone who doesn't know how to solder and doesn't want to learn how, you can usually replace the entire power supply board for around 30-75 bucks depending on the model. It's an easy DIY job and costs far less than a repair shop. Just watch out for those capacitors. Make sure to discharge them before you take the back off of the tv.

I have a 55" Samsung LCD I bought in 2009. In 2013, had power but would not show picture and was making a clicking noise. I just watched this video last week. There were 5 resisters that were not flat on the top. So I purchased a new power board from shop Jimmy's With shipping it was $74.20. Fixed it in less than 30 minutes. The tv was sitting in a box since 2013 when the problem happened Because you are "THE MAN". I am now using my 55" again. Kudos to you.

That was awesome. Best Buy tried ripping my senior citizen uncle off, they plugged in the Haier 32 inch, tried to turn it on and said his board is blown and he should just buy a new tv, mind you no other tests were done outside of plugging it in.. this tv is 4 years old. He spent 300.00 on another tv. I kinda went ape shit on the Geek Squad and got his tv back. They didnt want to give it up because it was logged in to be "recycled". I convinced them after my italian voice started to reach louder than the rest of the store. I will take it apart tomorrow and check your tips. Thanks for posting this, My uncle and I bought the tv for my dad in 2010, he passed away a short time after, so it would be cool if im able to fix it. My kids want "Grandpa's tv" in their room "cuz it still smells like him". Thanks again.

Why are caps in so many electronic devices defective nowadays? Why can't the manufacturers produce reliable capacitors - what's the problem? I know a few TV manufacturers have sued capacitor makers for giving them defective caps but this problem also effects many other products - including computer motherboards. It's really getting out of hand. You're almost guaranteed that any electronic device you buy today will have bad caps after a few years of use. Meanwhile, I can power up a 60 year old tube amp, or even a receiver from the 70's and it works without issues. You would think technology would advance and produce more reliable components, not the other way around.

Hi Tampa, I have here a Samsung UE32D6200TS LED TV. Menu and screen comes up but TV makes clicking (relais?) noise. Caps on the powerboard all look fine and since its from 2012, it is unlikely to be affected by the old Taiwan capacitor plague of the early 2000s. No visible damage outside or inside. Click, click, click, click …. What else could it be?

dude great vid- I noticed one thing.. Ive been taking caps off boards for years, and I hate monotony, and when things take a long time. so I always try to find the fastest way of doing things, since i do hundreds in a row, by hand.. If you push on the cap very gently, toward one leg, and heat the other leg's solder area, it will push up, then do the other leg..it pops right off.. its the fastest way, no matter what.. seriously like changed my life when i figured out that method!

Wow man you are awesome for answering all my questions. I know the exact point that touched and a spark appeared next to a cap on the corner of the board. Kenny, On the old Sanyo TVs we had a Capacitor that supplied 12 volts to the main power relay.( The DC supply to the relays coil) The voltage to the relay would be slightly low and cause it to chatter ( BUZZ) . It will not show a bulge , IT will just change tolerance. Some of the sets used a 24 volt relay. IT will be written on the top of the relay. Just check the supply with a volt DVCM .fallow the print to a diode,( it will be the cathode side) You should find the Cap. to replace.

I really learned a lot about my tv from your videos, thanks a ton for sharing your knowledge. A couple questions if you don't mind: Westinghouse VR5525-z suddenly stopped coming on. It has power, as the red indicator comes on and stays on. However, power button on side or remotes do not turn it on and the red light does not change to blue as it should. Finally got the back off last night and didn't see anything bulging, disconnected or seemingly out of place. I know virtually nothing of electronics and don't own a voltmeter. I do know how to solder and if I could find a bad component could probably replace it...don't want to get zapped either. Any further suggestions? Would an inexpensive voltmeter benefit? Ordering a replacement board? I see shopjimmy has a main board for $90 but have no idea if that's the prob or not. Any further info/advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again for your help, this is a great service you're doing here for others!

My how things have changed since the last time I had the back off of a TV. Back then TV's were made of steel and wood and contained a butt-load of vacuum tubes and plenty of high voltage. Nice video and thanks for sharing.

I have done several capacitor replacements on TV's, Power supply's on computers. Computer motherboards, Stereo's, Etc etc. The main value you need to keep the same is the micro farads or uF rating. The voltage you can always use a higher than what the original rating was which will help with it not blowing out so soon. What usually happens the blown caps are ran at few volts higher than their rated voltage and it will normally make it blow but not right away. Also heat is a factor.

Thank you very much, I can't wait to take my broken TV apart. I can't believe how many I threw away. I wish you could have taken a moment and warned us of dangerous areas in the TV, if there are any (do they even hold a huge shock -like the old TV did?). Great video, thank you

Great job man I stumbled upon your video since I may have the same problem for my samsung plasma, I turn it on and only last less than a minute then the screen goes pitch black and only the audio stays on. I thought it might of been something on the settings button but you think I may have to pay to get it repair?

Tks a lot Tampatec! I have the same problem with the same TV. I'll try to get new caps and also the repair kit. But I have one question about the cabs, actually two: how can I know if my caps are bad or good? Do I need to change just 1 cap? Or 3 of them? Tks in advance mate! Please help me if you can

Wow. Great video and very clear. I've a 42" Vizio TV that turns on and off no problem and access the menu just fine also, but the brightness seems broken. There's so much brightness that the screen looks grey and washed out, and from angles you can't see anything but grey at all. The menu allows the brightness to be further adjusted, but everything seems forced to greater than 100% nominal. I'm not sure what to make of this. Any ideas?

Thanks for making this helpful video. I have a 2 year old 60"LG LCD and my picture went to white last night. I did leave the TV on all day yesterday. I am able to get my cable guide up but cannot get a picture to appear. Do you think my problem has to do with the "caps" as in this video? Thanks for your advice!

Nice video, I fixed an older 52" Samsung with same fault, but 4 caps were bulging. I thought it good practice to replace all the caps on the board to save problems further on. Really enjoy your videos, thanks.

Live your vids they've saved me some $. Would like it if you described how you knew the cap was bad, where you buy your caps, what tip is on your soldering iron, what kind of solder you use etc. you really do make this stuff doable or the average joe and with just a little bit more info I think more people would be confident to do this stuff.

Hello, thanks for going to the trouble of showing us what to do and save a lot of money! I replaced two obviously blown caps and the TV now comes on :-) but the LED still flashes for a couple of times before going out completley is there anything else I need to do or replace? Thanks!
