12:02 - to speed the process of finding each clip in the media pool a bit faster, just use flags. Select all your clips on the timeline, flag them, and that will also flag them in the media bin. Sort by Flags in the list view of Media. And why would you choose Sound as Angle Sync, if all your clips are already synced? All settings can remain default. In any case, Waveform Sync is just too bad at this point to really use it effectively. So, it's either PluralEyes or Syncaila with XML import into Resolve, unless someone did this for you.

i'm new on davinci (i'm switching to premiere and i'm starting learning 17 beta). My workflow is: sync audio and video on timeline. Then, select ONLY video tracks without linked selections with audio tracks, create a compount clip, right click on this compound from the bin and select "create multiclip from compound clip". That's all. Now you have a multicam clip only with video clips. :)
@tingkagol4 жыл бұрын
I did this too but did not compound the clips on the timeline. I assume this saves the hassle of selecting the individual files from the media pool to create a multicam timeline?
@AleZakko4 жыл бұрын
@@tingkagol it depends from your workflow: if you have only two clips to sync in multicam, the best way is to right click no media pool and do the multicam, but in my workflow I prefer to create an ordered bins into media pool divided for first part and second part classical convert.. :)

Now that I know about multi cam, I have so many more ways to record multiple tracks and cut them together. Normally I don't go back and get a bunch of angles with the videos I put up due to the time it takes to splice everything together. With multicam it makes it so easy to cut tracks together. Some awesome info. LOVE the tip on using the multicam as a "container" so to speak for your music video. Ex - someone could create a multicam clip with two tracks, and then after it is created, they could go into the multicam clip and add another track if they wanted (perhaps better audio track) and Davinci will save the multcam clip with the new track. Another tip is someone could use markers instead of waveform. You should do this on the Media page. I had issues with using it on the Edit page.

Hey, Holmes, that's a pretty good tutorial I must say. More advanced than most of the other folks put out on KZbin, which is good. But still didn't cover stuff I needed, such as how to sync multiple takes from several cameras. You have just one take for each camera, so it's easy. But what if I have 10 takes from Angle 1 and 5 takes from Angle 2 and then a sound from a recorder, for example. How do I tell Davinci not to spread all these takes onto separate tracks, but to treat them as takes from one or the other source, so I would end up with 2 videos tracks and 3 audio tracks all aligned perfectly?

10:45, that’s the exact issue I’m looking for a solution for. That blade cut to audio, and the move does ripple. So I try to do it in a cut page, where it ripples. But I encourage audio Not syncing because the “cut/split/scissors/blade” within the cut page does not cut the audio. So the work around I am doing is open multiclip in time line and erase all non necessary audio and replace it with the master audio track. Then I go to edit page and while selecting both video AND audio, I make the cuts between multi angles. Once I’m done with the cuts, I come back to cut page and start trimming, and it ripples. I need to find an easier way. Looking into the sync bin feature in cut page but that’s a tough one too.

Great video. Almost covered everything! I would love to see the workaround when using a multicam clip with chroma key, and one without, in which you would put a simple cross dissolve between them after cutting. I've been having trouble working on that for a few months now! Any tips? Thanks a lot!
@TheModernFilmmaker4 жыл бұрын
I am not sure I really understand what you are trying to do. Use the chroma key in fusion with a multicam clip? Or cross devolve two multicam clips?
@magomagrin4 жыл бұрын
@@TheModernFilmmaker I've keyed a clip in fusion, and have another one without any keying that I've integrated into a multicam clip. Whenever I cut from one clip to another, sometimes I want to add a simple transition, but if this transition is from a keyed clip, it dips the whole thing to black, and brings in the other clip (not keyed). I've asked around in the blackmagic forum but no one answered! Have you ever seen this?
@magomagrin4 жыл бұрын
@@TheModernFilmmaker How am I going to be clear on this! 1 - I have two clips that were made into a multicam clip. One of them has a chroma backgroung extraction (made in fusion). The other one does not (simple clip done in color tab). 2 - I got both clips coloured and keyed the background on the first one. Imagine two angles, one of which I have a front take with a green screen at the back, and another one from top to bottom of the table from where I talk, showing my hands. I need to cut alternating between them, but sometimes I mess up the continuity and a hard cut just wont do, I need a dissolve to soften the roughness. 3 - Created multicam clip and started cutting and editing. 4 - Tried to add cross dissolve transition in the multicam clip, between the first clip (keyed with ultrakeyer) and second one (not keyed), and ended up with a weird dip to black and fade back, instead of the dissolve. Hope I've made myself clear! Thanks for all your trouble in hearing me out!

I think creating multicam's is even easier in DR17. I had to think about your color grading a multicam for a bit. I shoot outside multicams where the lighting changes so I'm not sure I could do it like you've done. I essentially use groups created based on camera metadata today, but I'd love to understand how to simplify that more if possible.
@cataclysmicproductions4 жыл бұрын
15:48 need to do it the "perfectionist" way and found the following informations on the Blackmagic forum. Could be helpful for some of you: "It is possible to "stack" color effects on top of multicam clips in your normal timeline, but be aware that if you choose to flatten the multicam clips, resolve discards anything you've done on top of them. I.e. color corrections done at the master timeline level get blown away if you right-click on the clip and choose "flatten multicam clip." Corrections at the source clip level (inside the multicam container) will survive a flattening, however, and performing this operation will expose your camera RAW adjustments and controls on the master timeline. I have yet to see any one do this in Resolve and it might just be me missing it BUT I'm a wedding film maker and sometimes my ceremonies are an hour long. If I have a camera that has a 30 min limit sometimes I have 2/3 clips from that camera. Times that by 3 or 4 cameras plus multiple sources of audio (officiant lav, groom lav, dj speaker) Does resolve allow me to multicam all of that together? The problem I seem to run into is let's say camera A shows up in 3 different spots and nothing generally lines up to audio even though I have audio running on all cameras. Any insight?
@JimRobinson-colors4 жыл бұрын
When you open a multicam in timeline - there is a breadcrumb - at the bottom left of the timeline window that you can simply click the "timeline1" and go back . so there actually is a way to go back without going back to the media pool. The deleting audio tracks is a little destructive if you find any drift or sync problems. I usually just right click the audio on the timeline and choose the good audio as a selection and work on it there instead of moving it around and deleting etc. In the situation where they sent you the timeline - I have had that kind of timeline sent to me often. Although your workaround works. What I do is make a dummy multicam ( any two clips ) from the media and paste in the whole timeline. For the color grading of all the clips, not really sure why you go back and turn off each as you do them, all the clips in that timeline are in the clip timeline in the color page and you can grade them without going back and forth. Is there a reason for that, that I am not seeing? I would also add that color grading all the clips should be done after editing - with that many clips playing at once - they always run smoother before any grades are applied. Have you tried the Sync Bin in the Cut page. I do a lot of concerts and it is now my fav way of doing multicam. I can watch a clip - example ( Drummer ) from start to finish and when I see a great drum fill or drum break - I can mark In / Out and with one click it drops in place right on the timeline. I then go to each performer and do the same for solos or interesting licks etc. It really is a new and fresh way to layout a live show/ If you haven't tried it, you should , I think it is whole new approach. It also is very li9ght on resources because you can build an edit on 2 or 3 tracks, where in the traditional multicam- in a large production you might need 10 4k angles playing simultaneously, which bogs down a lot of computers.
@TheModernFilmmaker4 жыл бұрын

I have a lot of problems with sync bins in cut page. I really want to use the cut page for multicam edits because of the ripple edit feature. I need to edit an interview of a speaker that was shot with three cameras. I want the audio to be used from one camera, and easily switch between the angles(not set time but manually start and end different angles). And I need to be able to split and trim clips with ripple effect while keeping my audio in sync. Do you feel that this is achievable with the cut page sync bin? Or is better to do this with edit page and multicam clip. Any advice would be seriously appreciated

Thank you for this excellent tutorial with a very clear explanation of the entire process. The one thing that I have still not mastered is when I shoot with two or three cameras for classical music concerts, I have two cameras locked off mounted on tripods etc. the third camera I use for roaming and grabbing shots here and there, this third camera is not rolling continuously. In Premiere I could use PluralEyes 4 to sync up all the clips and the roaming camera clips would show up in the time line in the correct position, based on the sound track. I have not managed to do this in Resolve 16 (Studio) the roaming clips are just bunched up together, i.e. not spaced out. As a footnote PluralEyes 4 does have an updated version which now supports Resolve, but it is cumbersome to use. Do you have a solution that will work in Resolve?
@PolarTorsen4 жыл бұрын
Hey, Vincent, that's a relatively easy task. You do it by assigning camera number in metadata. What I do, is I put my takes from different cameras into separate media bins, then I select all takes in each bin and assign camera number for all those takes. Metadata button is in the right top corner of the Media. But make sure you are in the "Shot & Scene" group - it's selectable with the "arrow down" button (next to three dots, top-right corner). So, under Shot & Scene you have "Camera #" property available (you also have Angle, Reel Number, Reel Name and Roll Card # - all of these can be used for the same purpose). That's where you put your number or word, which has to be the same for sources from one camera. And then, when you select all takes in all bins and choose to create Multicam, just hit the "Detect clips from same camera" checkmark and choose "Metadata - Camera #" or any other option, depending how you filled the Metadata. Good luck, mate. P.S. The audio sync in DaVinci isn't that good, though, and often it's best to just go with PluralEyes, then export to XML and shove everything into multicam timeline.
@vincentoliver4 жыл бұрын
@@PolarTorsen Thank you for taking the time to explain this, I will give it another go and see how I get on. At the moment all my concert filming "gigs" are cancelled, but I can still practice with some previous to COVID footage
@PolarTorsen4 жыл бұрын
@@vincentoliver, from many of my latest attempts to sync like that I have once again assured myself of the fact that Waveform Sync in DaVinci Resolve 16 is very weak. The scenery has to be almost absolutely perfect for it to work correctly. I mean, even a simple violin recorded by two cameras and a recorder from a distance of 1-3 meters doesn't sync correctly. That's really lame and dissapointing. So, your best bet is to stick with PluralEyes. And then just quickly make a multicam timeline with any amount of tracks, and paste your PluralEyes resulting timeline into it, which will automatically create all the tracks necessary. So, it's enough to just select any clip and create multicam leaving all the default settings intact. Or perhaps get Tentacle devices for all your equipment, extract timecode from audio and sync by timecode in a matter of a couple of seconds.

Great vid, dude. There's nothing like getting information from working professionals. Got anything to help decide (and how to) render proxies in order to multicam? I'm doing a music video project and have 11 video tracks to multicam together. With H.264 it wrecks even a good computer (Ryzen 7 3800x overclocked), so I need to transcode but not sure how to : (

I would select all clips, right click and select "generate optimized media"... This will make proxy media for you 👊✌

Super useful, thx! One problem though. I seem unable to create a multi-cam clip. I select the clips in the Media Pool, but when I right-click, I don't see the "Create multi-cam clip" item. I only see "Create new timeline using selected clips". But if I choose that option, it just concatenates the clips end to end.

Would the information in this video be the same for Resolve 17?

Absolutely! Everything here still applies to Resolve 17 & 18 👍👊✌️

re your interview setup; say you asked a question at the 15min mark and you want to cut and bring forward to the 5min mark. Can you do this and still retain the ability to multi-cam?
@TheModernFilmmaker4 жыл бұрын
Yes, you can cut and completely separate the clips while still have full multi-cam functionality.

What if one of the cameras has several clips instead of a full length one like the other camera? Is it possible to add those several clips as a cam?
@TheModernFilmmaker3 жыл бұрын
Yes it is! When you open multicam in timeline you can add the several clips to a new track and line them up to the audio. Then you will have all those clips in a new cam angle in the work timeline

on the normal time line, above the timecode you will see the timeline icon, press on it > this will make all (USED) timelines appear in a single line just below your tools bar

Hi, where can i get multicam footage to practice this multicam editing ?
@CreepyCoolPictures4 жыл бұрын
While viewing Multicam in Timeline, at the bottom of the panel, you’ll see “Timeline 1 > Multicam.” If you click on “Timeline 1” right there, it will take you back to the timeline without having to go back to the media pool. That’s your roadmap. Super easy.

I colour correct the same way you do; however, in a recent interview I did some reframing and unlike the colour correction, the Multicam would not update. Do you know what I’m doing wrong?

Can I cut using numer pad on my keyboard or by using some MIDI keyboard to point cameras ? I mean I would use that same as TV live production mixer - I swith between cameras using keyboard. I am asking because if you make very dynamic editing then switching using mouse coursor between 10 cameras is almost imposibke. Sony Vegas do this with num pad on PC keyboard 1-9...does Resolve let us to do that way ?

I try to delete unwanted video segments from the multicam clip without messing up the sync. There must be some trick to make it easy. I have not found any video that covers that part.

Hey AMIGO,how are you doing?quick question Master,why could be that trying to align the audio multicam clips from my timeline,I select all of them,right click on one of them but,I don't have Align Clips option,you know what I mean right?,I'm using D.R. 17.2.2 studio version but I don't have the option that everybody have.Could you help me with that,I would appreciate a lot,thank you Master.

The Multicam sequence seems like a nested sequence; so if you cut out some "fluff" from the source timeline AFTER you finished your Multicam edit, won't that make your cuts out of sync?

Hi I was wondering if you could help me out. I shoot in 4k and put it in a 1080 timeline. In most cases I get all the crispness of 4k in a 1080 video and it's all good. My problem starts when I do a multicam. I usually do a mixed 4k and 1080 for my 2 camera setup. I notice that the 4k footage becomes quite muddy when I put it in a multicam setup with the 1080 footage. If I put it in a 4k timeline, it works great. But when I put it in a 1080 timeline, it becomes muddy, this is regardless if my project settings are at 4k or 1080 (which I guess affects the "container resolution" of the multicam clip, since it changes depending on the project setting resolution) Am I missing something? Why does it become super muddy when I put it in a 1080 timeline? It doesn't happen if it isn't multiclip. If I render the 4k timeline in 1080 it comes out crisp too (but waaay to long). Is there a setting or feature I'm not using? Thank you in advance!

What happens if you need to do a talking head or demo video with a bunch of takes and need to edit out filler words, pauses etc. but don't want to switch angels while doing it.

You can press B to use the cut tool and take out the sections you don't need.

@@TheModernFilmmaker right, but will it switch angles? If I’m cutting filler words for instance, I don’t want it jumping from angle to angle as I do it.
