EASY NEW METHOD OF GETTING WIIMMFI! How to play Wii online after Nintendo WFC shutdown!

No Homebrew Channel, no SD card, no USB device, no technical knowledge required, just a Wii and an Internet connection like the good old days. Simply follow the video, and check the bottom of the description if you run into trouble!
For those who don't know, Wiimmfi is a custom server that allows users to play Wii (and DS) games online after the Nintendo WFC shutdown. This includes games like Mario Kart Wii, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Mario Strikers Charged, The Conduit series and many others as well. Recently, new developments have made this custom server accessible to almost everyone, regardless of how familiar you are with computers, homebrew and the like. This video is a demonstration of the newest technique that can be used to access Wiimmfi!
Thanks to a new bug recently discovered in the Wii's Internet Channel by Fullmetal5, it is now possible to run homebrew or other unsigned code without needing any external device at all, and because this presents such a cool opportunity to get more people to use Wiimmfi due to how simple and accessible this method is, I simply had to make a video about it! Do send him credit for such an awesome find!
Regrettably, this method does not work on a Wii U, due to the fact that you cannot download the Internet Channel onto a vWii.
Please note that you will have to go into the Internet Channel and select Wiimmfi from the favourites every time you want to play online. The patch does not persist after you close the game. I hope that everyone finds this video useful, and I hope to see some new faces online using this :)
Troubleshooting if you have problems:
Japanese users may not be able to use this technique, right now the NTSC-J Internet Channel may not be supported. But it probably will be soon!
Korean Wii users cannot use this technique, as the Internet Channel is not available to Korea. Nintendo never released it. Korean players will have to follow the other video linked above, instead.
European/Australian/PAL Wii users should make sure their Wii is set to 60Hz (either 480i or 480p mode), as this method currently does not work on 50Hz. (Wii Options - Wii Settings - Screen - TV Type - 2nd or 3rd option, 3rd is better quality but not everyone can pick it).
I've heard rumours this also doesn't work if you launch the Internet Channel from the SD card menu, so you should also make sure that you launch the Internet Channel from the Wii Menu instead.
If the Wii freezes or locks up when visiting the website, simply hold the power button for 4 seconds, then try again. It may take a few attempts to get it going. Some things you can try to improve reliability are erasing your cookies (Settings menu in the Internet Channel), erasing the Internet Channel save data (from data management), updating your console to the latest version, setting your console language to English, and trying to go as fast as possible to the favourites as soon as the Internet Channel loads. If none of that works, you could always redownload the Internet Channel.
If the Internet browser does not look like the one in the video, it may not work. Download it fresh from the Wii Shop if that happens.
If you get Error Code 23899 or 23887 or anything beginning with 238 when connecting to Wiimmfi, this is normal. All new users to Wiimmfi must wait 1 week before they can play on Mario Kart Wii. Receiving one of these errors simply means you need to wait a bit longer. Other games will not have this issue. (Please note: Anyone who's reading this who hasn't received one of these errors in MKW and is new to Wiimmfi, you must attempt to connect to Wiimmfi once in a game, otherwise the week countdown won't start. Just visiting the website is NOT enough!)
Error Code 20110 would indicate the patch has failed. Try reloading the browser.
If you get Error Code 60000 when connecting to Wiimmfi, erase your friend code however you can (start a new save or similar) and then try again.
Any other Wiimmfi error code can be looked up at wiimmfi.de/error.

So, it's nearly been a week since I uploaded this, so it's almost time for the first new faces to be appearing on Mario Kart Wii! So, I'll quickly run through a few things that you might encounter if you are new to MKW Wiimmfi, and some rules to make everything fun and fair and whatnot. Everything in this comment refers specifically to Mario Kart Wii unless stated otherwise. Read on :) First, you always need to go via the Internet Channel if you want to play online. This can't be avoided since the patch is not permanent. It lasts until you exit the game or turn off the console, then you have to go via the Internet Channel again to play online. This applies to all games. Next, if you get Error 60000, you will need to use another license because the friend code associated with your license can't be used. If all of your licenses get it, simply erase one and start it anew. I will be trying to come up with a nice feature to erase a friend code without erasing a license in future, so keep your best licenses intact! If you get this error on a game other than MKW, you need to erase your friend code, either by an in-game feature or resetting your save file. You are not allowed to cheat on these servers, nor use lap skip glitches. A lap skip glitch is one where you can take a route that skips all key checkpoints and yet still counts a lap (they generally reduce lap times to like 15 seconds or less, like driving around the rock of Grumble Volcano). Anything else is typically considered fair game, including some of the more obscure shortcuts like the Bowser's Castle spiral skip and using the respawn error just past the two moving platforms on Grumble Volcano. You can use wiimmfi.de/mkw to see all active racing rooms on the server and who is online. If you run into someone who isn't playing by the rules, you are welcome to record a video of it and submit it as proof to get them banned from the server. This includes any kind of cheating or abuse of lapskip glitches. Once you've recorded the video, go to the link above and try to get the offender's friend code, then send both of those to me or post them at forum.wii-homebrew.com/index.php/Thread/51720-About-banning/ where they will be taken care of. If you miss their FC, post your own instead (but make sure to say it's yours!) and we can use the room history to find it. If you are hosting a friend room, it's a good idea to wait for like 1 or 2 minutes after all the racers arrive before starting. This is because Wiimmfi can sometimes be kinda slow at establishing connections between all members of a friend room, and without all the connections established, the room may simply not start at all or disconnect a few seconds into the first race. It's worth noting if you've never played online on MKW before that this game is subject to a lot of lag, and it can sometimes get confused with cheats. If you see someone fall off a track and then suddenly appear in front of you again, or you hit them with a star or bomb or similar, and they seem to teleport forwards, they may not actually be cheating; what you saw probably just never happened on their screen (they didn't fall off, didn't get hit by the bomb, etc). This is how MKW has always been and it's really weird. But anything else out of the ordinary is probably cheating. If in doubt, feel free to ask. If you're still getting an error code that leads of with 238 and it's already been a week, you probably have just a few hours to go. If the error code is lower than 23884, the last two digits of the error code will actually be the amount of hours remaining until you are good to go! Error Code 86420 may occur when searching for opponents if your router is not very well set up for gaming, though Wiimmfi is typically pretty good at working with most routers, if you start getting this error, you may either want to enable the DMZ on your router, or forward UDP ports 1024 - 65535 to the Wii. If you don't get this error, you have no need to worry about any of this. You also don't need to worry about it if you get that error while you're already racing, because that's actually someone else's fault, not yours! Any other error code can be tested at wiimmfi.de/error. This applies to all games. Finally, have fun, and if there are any problems, let me know! Merry Christmas!

Thx for uploading this bean! I activated wiimfi last week and just started playing online today. The first match just flowed so much memories back to me of being a kid back then, raging at the mirror cups. Just a theory: Can we use that exploit by altering the DNS and then requesting the WC24 EULA from a fake server? Isn't that rendered by the Wii Internet Channel thing, too? I don't recall if that required additional patches or homebrew, but that could work even without the Internet channel (as the shop will be gone in a year or so).

Wouldn't this be possible on the Wii U too? I mean if u manage to run unsigned code on Webkit. iOS 9 had a bug where you could run unsigned code (i used it myself), and i heard the wii u used an even older version of webkit, so the bug must still be there.

Not completely possible, no. The game makes the decision about the engine class, so we'd have to patch absolutely everyone's game such that it never picked 100cc.

It is 2019 now, I've been playing mkwii for years now since I was a kid. I always wanted to play online races as I had become a "skilled pro" but sadly Nintendo WFC had shut down. I have been so upset about that because I've never played with anyone with the same skill or interest than me. I've tried many things but none have worked as the game is far to old for 2018 or 2019. I have yet to try this but I hope that it works even tho this is now over a year old!

Yeah, you probably got an error code beginning with 238, and all it means is you need to wait a week. It's a step to reduce online cheating by making it hard for people to unban themselves.

Yes, the first time you enter, you will get a error code that means "console registration successful" and then you have to wait 1 more week for console activation, then you'll be all set. But you need a patched ROM or you can go with wiimmfi patcher with the internet channel and the original game disc.

Just keep trying again, again, again, and again until it works, last time I got it to work in under 3 hours, but sometimes it can take much, much less. It's basically a game of chance

Every game I can get into the lobby, and I play two races and on the third I get disconnected and I get error 91010. My internet is really fast and I get under 40 ping on every other game so idk why I am having these problems, do you know how to fix this?

Give them Wiimmfi? Yeah, but not via this technique. You'd need to patch the downloaded files for said mods with Wiimmfi, and doing that should just let them play online without issue.

Also, as others said, if you've done all the trouble shooting tips just be patient, keep trying and it should work. I'm not sure why it works sometimes and not others but, it's well worth the wait!! no it will just take 7 days for you to be approved to play, so you cant play online for 7 days. if you turn the console off nothing will happen the countdown will just continue regularly. this is only for mkwii though.

I'm gonna guess you're getting an error code that begins with 238, and the solution is to wait a week. All new players to Wiimmfi on MKW must wait 1 week before they can play.

Can you add the mission mode to CTGP? like, only allow the default 32 courses with it, but combine the newly created/found battle mode to ctgp-r (maybe make it like 'ctgp-r +' or something). I've just always wanted that to happen.
