I learned a trick from a friend on how to measure for the end loops. She used a bead. Put the bead on the end and cut the wire, when you take the bead off you’ll have the perfect length for your loop. Depending on what size loop you want will determine how big of a bead to use. No measuring.

I've been making jewelry since grade school and started working with wire about 15 years ago. (I actually taught wire soldering for a while and it was a lot of fun!) I saw this video come up and decided that it looked like it was very easy and fun project, so I'm going to invest in a few of the tools I don't have (the mandrel, the ring sizing tool and the rounded pliers) so I can start making some beautiful rings in sterling and copper, as well as stones such as turquoise, onyx and amethyst. Thank you for this amazing tutorial!! 💜💜💜
@amberm27772 жыл бұрын
Clever way to create a closed ring! I think this makes so much more sense than having the wire tie off on the bottom of the ring shank like many designs do. Can't wait to give this a try.

What really super cute rings. Thank you for mentioning the flying wire, children, pets anyone in the room can also be a victim. If you want your copper wire to be shiny after it oxidizes get a jar with a lid put in about 2 cups white vinegar and 2 heaping tablespoons of table salt stir and store for continuous uses....once you put your tarnished pieces in it stir well for a minute or less, it turns bright before your eyes and the vinegar sanitizes your beads/stones., rinse well and dry. Loves your little jokes, good to see you back.
@JewelSchool2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for this Deby! We would caution that porous stones like pearls, turquoise and coral will be damaged by vinegar. Also, softer stones on the Moh's Hardness Scale, like beryl, apatite, fluorite and feldspars such as agate, sunstone and labradorite. We actually don't recommend cleaning your gemstones with anything but a mild soap and tepid water. Just be super careful to "know your stone!"

I am sorry but I don't own a big bail type of pliers.. I do have the smaller one. Could you explain what you can do if you don't have one? Thank you for taking time to read and respond to my questions.
@JewelSchool Жыл бұрын
The bail shaping pliers are a great investment if you can get them. Honestly, you can use anything round, like a wooden dowel. You just have to measure to make sure it's the size you want or you could just use a ring mandrel if you have one to shape the wire around. You can use your normal round nose plier to make loops, just be sure to mark your plier so you get the same size every time! Hope this helps! Thank you for sharing these great videos! We just started making our own jewellery. Question: what do you do with all the pieces you cut (silver and copper), do you throw them away or is there a way to reuse it? 🙏🏻 Regards from The Netherlands 🇳🇱
@JewelSchool2 жыл бұрын
You can melt them down if they are pure silver and copper and use them to make other jewelry. Sometimes you can turn them in to a business that accepts gold and silver and get money back for them.

Hi, These are really nice and like them very much. Can I make them and sell them on my online shop?

I love this ring, but how do you keep them so round?? Mine always appear to be oval, no matter how many times I put it on the ring mandrel!
@JewelSchool2 жыл бұрын
So annoying, right!? LOL As with anything, practice is key. You can twist the ring on the mandrel once it's finished to help round it back out. If using bare copper wire like in the video, You can "lightly" hammer it while it is on the mandrel to help round it back out as well. Then just use your chain nose pliers to help get it even across. Just keep at it and you will make it happen! Good luck!
