I learned a trick from a friend on how to measure for the end loops. She used a bead. Put the bead on the end and cut the wire, when you take the bead off you’ll have the perfect length for your loop. Depending on what size loop you want will determine how big of a bead to use. No measuring.

I've been making jewelry since grade school and started working with wire about 15 years ago. (I actually taught wire soldering for a while and it was a lot of fun!) I saw this video come up and decided that it looked like it was very easy and fun project, so I'm going to invest in a few of the tools I don't have (the mandrel, the ring sizing tool and the rounded pliers) so I can start making some beautiful rings in sterling and copper, as well as stones such as turquoise, onyx and amethyst. Thank you for this amazing tutorial!! 💜💜💜

What really super cute rings. Thank you for mentioning the flying wire, children, pets anyone in the room can also be a victim. If you want your copper wire to be shiny after it oxidizes get a jar with a lid put in about 2 cups white vinegar and 2 heaping tablespoons of table salt stir and store for continuous uses....once you put your tarnished pieces in it stir well for a minute or less, it turns bright before your eyes and the vinegar sanitizes your beads/stones., rinse well and dry. Loves your little jokes, good to see you back.

Thanks for this Deby! We would caution that porous stones like pearls, turquoise and coral will be damaged by vinegar. Also, softer stones on the Moh's Hardness Scale, like beryl, apatite, fluorite and feldspars such as agate, sunstone and labradorite. We actually don't recommend cleaning your gemstones with anything but a mild soap and tepid water. Just be super careful to "know your stone!"

@nohandle474

Hi, I love your videos because you explain things so well! I hope you don't mind me asking as this is a little off topic to this video... I have a real gold nose screw that is made with thin gold. You know the one where you screw it in to the peircing and it sits flush on the inside of your nose and wont fall out like the typical 'L' shae studs. This is more a 'C' shape. Problem is wire is too long and so it tickles my nose and hurts as its abit sharp at the end of the wire. I would like to cut it a little shorter and reshape it so the curl in the wire is close to the inside of my nose. Sort of like when earing studs are too long and keep poking behind your ear! Hope that explains it well. What tools would I need to buy to reshape to creat a soft bend and also to cut and smooth the end of the wire please? X
@JewelSchool
@JewelSchool 2 жыл бұрын
This is a tough one! Only because without seeing it, we can't really say. Here is our best "guess" and this is really what it is - is you can try to flush cut it shorter and use a battery operated wire rounder to round and file it off. Beadalon makes a good one. If we're talking about extra long stud posts, then this is exactly what we'd try. You can also try a flat file if you don't want to invest in the battery operated version. This is assuming that it won't destroy the parts of the wire where it screws into your nose. We really hope this helps!
@nohandle474
@nohandle474 2 жыл бұрын
@@JewelSchool i think the file is the better option as it isn't a screw in the traditional sense, it's smooth jewellery wire but the shape is the 'screw' style when you insert the jewellery. Essentially sits flat on the inside as opposed to an L shape where it easily pops out. Really appreciate the reply thanks!

@JewelSchool
@JewelSchool Жыл бұрын
The bail shaping pliers are a great investment if you can get them. Honestly, you can use anything round, like a wooden dowel. You just have to measure to make sure it's the size you want or you could just use a ring mandrel if you have one to shape the wire around. You can use your normal round nose plier to make loops, just be sure to mark your plier so you get the same size every time! Hope this helps!
